March 29, 200520 yr Another Mr Levine special L J Johnson - Your Magic Put A Spell On Me. How fast was that???!!!! link Can we not dismiss all of the "Levine" productions? A couple were "reasonable covers" such as Johnny Bristol "Man up in the sky", but by and large as a genre we could largely write them off - couldn't we?

March 29, 200520 yr you may think that the records mentioned in previous threads as garbage. But i can say that current records like kenny thomas frank barlow and a host of modern and r/b are just as bad or if not worse.Probably thats why alot of people are off the northern scene is because they dont play tunes like wombat/babe ruth/destination unknown e.t.c .Everybodys different.
March 29, 200520 yr Come on then tell what Nsoul is then, yes i do like rock records this aint one of em,come back Ken link Not feeling inclined to open up that old "Pandoras box" about what is / isn't "Nsoul" at this time of day. Glad someone likes it though, and I bet Pete S probably does too - I just don't class it as "credible" for the rare soul scene, and I don't think I am alone. Thought it was a joke when I first heard it at "Wigan" in 1980 - my opinion has never changed on it....God I hope it's not in the process of being "revived"

March 29, 200520 yr Author What about 'Along comes mary' 'Baja Marimba Band'. link Brilliant instrumental!
March 29, 200520 yr Author Not feeling inclined to open up that old "Pandoras box" about what is / isn't "Nsoul" at this time of day. Glad someone likes it though, and I bet Pete S probably does too - I just don't class it as "credible" for the rare soul scene, and I don't think I am alone. Thought it was a joke when I first heard it at "Wigan" in 1980 - my opinion has never changed on it....God I hope it's not in the process of being "revived"Â link Yeah I love it but hand on heart I had no idea it had been played as 'northern', I have it as a garage punk record and one of the best, especially the organ solo must be a Russ spin! But yes, great record, not a northern sound though
March 29, 200520 yr fantastic record! link I have one somewhere, I'll give it another listen based on your expression.
March 29, 200520 yr Rubber kneckin played at casino 1979 by Dave Evison,it was also Dave that started to spin Lightnin strikes, brave lad our dave .
March 29, 200520 yr Author I have one somewhere, I'll give it another listen based on your expression. link I think a lot of these records don't stand up in the cold light of day - but when you used to hear them played out, loud, they took on a different guise altogether. I mean, you couldn't listen to something like Broadway Cissy at home because it's a mess and doesn't make sense, but at Wigan it sounded incredible..
March 29, 200520 yr fantastic record! link I've just "relistened" to the Del Rays Inc again for the first time in years and "reappraised" it. Don't agree that it's "fantastic", but I do wish to "delete" it from my previous list, as it's not bad. Is this allowable?
March 29, 200520 yr Rubber kneckin played at casino 1979 by Dave Evison,it was also Dave that started to spin Lightnin strikes, brave lad our dave . link He has played some most "bizarre" records Andy - "Paint it black" was also one of his "finer moments in soul" I seem to recall.....as I recoiled in horror from the hallowed Wigan dancefloor at 7.15 one Sunday morning....but we cannot mention that, as it is an instrumental.
March 29, 200520 yr Author I've just "relistened" to the Del Rays Inc again for the first time in years and "reappraised" it. Don't agree that it's "fantastic", but I do wish to "delete" it from my previous list, as it's not bad. Is this allowable? link I played the wah wah guitar solo on that record
March 29, 200520 yr Lucky Charms - Tied to your heart keith Jewels - Togetherness Main Change ? - Sunshine downright nasty...... link The Jewels are a class act! and Black Power is skit. I can tell you a venue that plays them every once in a while (but only when Danny's not looking )
March 29, 200520 yr Author The Jewels are a class act! and Black Power is skit. I can tell you a venue that plays them every once in a while (but only when Danny's not looking ) link Wendy did I promise to send you some cd's, because if I did, I apologise but my PM box got full so I deleted the lot...honest
March 29, 200520 yr Author Wendy did I promise to send you some cd's, because if I did, I apologise but my PM box got full so I deleted the lot...honest link p.s. obviously it was full up because I am so popular
March 30, 200520 yr I think there are so many brilliant records that could never make a come back. Most of them because they have never gone away. Sometimes, no strike that - all the time I wish some of them would disapear for 5 or so years then perhaps they would elicit the special responce that I get when I hear some fantastic tune I'd nearly forgotten
March 30, 200520 yr I think a lot of these records don't stand up in the cold light of day - but when you used to hear them played out, loud, they took on a different guise altogether. I mean, you couldn't listen to something like Broadway Cissy at home because it's a mess and doesn't make sense, but at Wigan it sounded incredible.. link I listen to Broadway Cissy at home, played it earlier.I mean, where else am I likely to hear it (or astral trip,The Jewels,Babe Ruth et al)?
March 31, 200520 yr Always thought James Coit was ok myself, one of the first records i bought and have alaways kept it...It says in the bible(top 500 ) that this tune is no more, would like to hear it out just once more to make my mind up..I have give it a spin at a couple of nights but they were not places where the soul police would go Murial Day..."nine times out of ten"..Now that is a record from the past and for the past..Would like to know if anyone heard it get a play in the last 25 years..Now that is sh"te indeed... link M.DAY PLAYED AT SOUL 99 SCARBOROUGH FEB EVENT 2005, WAS IT CHRIS KING, YOGI, MICK OR ADY???
