at the St. Ives reunion this saturday the 'Theatre' room (where they used to play Oldies in the 70s) is going to have "Modern Oldies" played in there.

I have my theory as to what a "Modern Oldie" should or may be but have heard many different definitions over the last few months when discussing the term with others.

Can anyone please let me know his/her definition?

Not wanting to split hairs but I think Trickie played this at the Casino first. Probably came from John Anderson - I think Poke was working for him at the time so he probably did have one two.

Soul Sam certainly had a copy. I kept tapes of his Modern Set from a St Ives Dayer (10/4/83). Those DJ's have stunning boxes of vinyl (all genre's), I could go on and on about their credentials. Flanny's got a long history on the modern scene, and the other 3 all

DJ at the Hilton weekenders. Deffo worth a listen. They're all my favourites..

Must admit , London is pretty dire most of the time but right up North in scandanavia is pretty good , and Ive heard Scotland is ok ..

Somethings in life ain't simple and to me a Modern oldie is something which was released years ago ie 70's and 80's. maybe even early 90's but or records of the last 15 years to me is Modern it's new and hardly that old.

in fact what about if it's said a 60's Modern tune how stupid. For me there is Northern, Motown and Modern and crossover although i don't get it unless it's refering to songs that are more disco or funk etc yet have a Northern soul ie Move On Up. That's how i define things and i don't want it to be anymore after all Soul and Dance has god knows how many sub genres next it will be gospel soul and southern soul and Doo wop and so on
