Guest FREEBIRD
What started off as a warm sunny day, turned into a typicle OPERA HOUSE evening. From about 12 oclock it p***d down!! To make things worse Greens Bar( the Warm up ) forgot to tell me they had a little fire. It only took 5 fire engines, "that little"!! Then when you think things cant get worse, a Dj phones in sick( get well soon Dave ).. But!! What an evening was had by all.. People turning up early doors, Some newies and lots of the originals returning, and a fair few travelers.. My thanks go out to the djs Neil jones, Dolly, Steve lyons, Mark anderson and Resident Chilli, who kept the floor busy from 9 oclock onwards (and the normal die hards till 4am ). Music= Something for every one.. While some do`s are feeling the pinch with falling no.s, we at the Opera house are going from strength to strength. This is down to the quality Djs, The venue (lush), the peeps who put flyers out etc. This is not a one man band effort, I couldnt do this alone.. With this in mind we have next year well and truly booked,1st Anniversary 28th feb ( check events ) May 16th, 22nd aug, 28th Nov Now its your turn.. For those that attended what did you think? Should I mention the heating or lack of it? Link to comment
Guest chick
For me, this was by far the best one yet. This was the busiest I've seen the floor before...... most of the night it was heaving!!! It's great to be able to get to listen to dj's that aren't often local and hear some different but exciting new tunes. (new to me anyway) Really can't wait for February ...... especially with the added addition of the Groove Junkies. Shaun....... well done for all your hard work and commitment. Nothing you could have done about the heating - hope you've given them a kick up the arse about it though. The people on the floor all night didn't notice. Link to comment

Guest
Rather belatedly, its time Dolly and me added our own few words. First an foremost - WOW! This really is one of THE finest venues anywhere for a Soul event and the place itself warrants a visit from Soulies far and wide. The dance floor, the setting, the acoustics, the fabulous in-house sound system all make for one helluva gig! Added to that the warm and friendly welcome that was extended to us and we just knew we were in for a memorable night. Having driven through a couple of hours of horrendous weather to reach the coat, we were not surprised at Shaun and Chillies' comments that numbers were slightly lowere than usual. Not that this detracted in any way from the great night we enjoyed. Musically, the night lived up to all we were promised and the dancers were up for a real cross section of tuneage and Dolly and me - spolied as we were with a set each, followed by a double-deck set towards the end of the night - did our best to play something for everyone. Here's what we played: DOLLY - 10:30 to 11:15 Ruby Andrews - Just Loving You Channel Three - The Sweetest Thing Four Voices - Your Love Is Getting Stronger Rhonda Davis - Can You Remember Fontella Bass - I Can't Rest Moments & Linda Jones - I'm So Glad I Found You Dee Dee Sharp - What Kinda Lady Yvonne Baker - I can't change August Moon - You're together baby Irene & The Scotts - Stuck On My Baby The Belles - Don't Pretend Carol Anderson c/u Jackie Lee - Would You Believe Artistics - Love Songs The Accents Who's gonna love ya Sonny Til - Tears & Misery Jean Battle - I've Got To Come In Edwin Starr - Running Back & Forth David Ruffin - Rode By The Place Neil 12 til 12:45 Major Williams - Girl You're So Sweet Sidney Joe Quails - I Dont Do This N F Porter - Keep On Keeping On Billy Sha Rae - I'm Gone Lee Rogers - Sock Some Love Power Hesitations - Soul Superman (alt take) Al Wilson - Help Me Melba Moore - Magic Touch Liberty Belles - Shing A Ling Time Enchantments - I'm In Love With Your Daughter (request) Tymes - What Would I Do Cindy Scott - World Of Happiness Irma & The Larks - Without You Baby Gene Toones - What NMore Do You Want Clarence Jackson - If It Dont Fit Dont Force It Neil & Dolly 2:30 - 3:30 Barbara Lewis - The Stars Sapphires - Gotta Have Your Love Darrow Fletcher - What Have I Got Now (request) Anita Hulmes - What Did I Do Beverley Ann Gibson - A Three Dollar Bill Sheila Ferguson - And In Return Servicemen - Sweet Magic Ringleaders - All Of My Life Darrell Banks - I'm The One Who Loves You Four Pros - Just Another Girl (request) Gloria Shannon - Tears Nancy Butts - I Want To Hold Your Hand (I Get Lonely) Major Williams - Girl Dont Leave Me Ethics - I Want My Baby Back Delegates Of Soul - Running Back Posse - Evil Little Richie - Just Another Heartache Loveman Ronnie Stokes - Touch You Again Freddie Williams - Live while I can Fabulous Apollos - Whats so good to you Love Masters - Pushing and pulling Accents - you better think again Bobby Hutton - Come See Whats Left Of Me Stoppers - Come Back Baby Georgia Prophets - Don't You Think Its Time David Thomas - Ill Always Need You (By My Side) request The last 20 mins or so were courtesy of Dolly while I furiously tried to scribble down everything we'd played so I may have missed a track or two. All in all a fantastic night that we both really enjoyed. Thanks again to the gang for inviting us and making us feel as welcome as we did. A night that comes highly recommended and we are looking forward to getting down there again real soon. Last word of thanks goes to Karen (Soulgirl) for such wonderful kindness and hospitality in opening her home to give us somewhere to rest up and change etc before and after the "do" - thank you so much Karen x Neil & Dolly Edited November 12, 2008 by burysoul Link to comment
