On Soul Source home page, there's a thread called Northern In The Home Counties,

which has quite a bit of info on that momentous day. Which is now seen as the turning point for the Jazz Funk scene.

Although looking back, it seems that everybody now has their own version of what actually happened, influenced by what side of the fence you were sitting on at the time

Haven't seen what was written elsewhere & not sure what happened to Cockney Mick afterwards, but what unfolded that afternoon ....... Northern in the main room

jazz funkers in the upstairs smaller room & they must have decided they wanted to take over downstairs, Chris Hill later "explained" they wanted to unite the soul scenes. Anyway they conga'd out of their room along the balcony & downstairs.

Chris Hill then went up on the stage, can't remember if he actually took off the record that was playing midway through but he stuck on some crap either called, or by Spanish Fly. (& he had the cheek to slag off Northern as not soulful) C. Mick

then repeated the trick & whipped the record off & introduced Reading to "frizzbeing crap funk records across the floor". I 'm sure a bit of a scuffle took place before they all fu**ed off back up stairs. Happy days

Happy days indeed Dave

Not sure about the date. Would be interested to know myself.

The date has been documented in a few books on Jazz-Funk.

and I think Mark Bicknell may know it.

Its really suprising how many people are active on the n/s scene today who were at that all-dayer. After the all-dayer I thought the scene would disappear totally down south.

Wrong again Smith

Just 5......why stop there?

Back on thread, noticed a rather fetching photo of Cockney Mick, put up recently by John Buck in the gallery section.

they must have been happy days, I managed to mix up Spanish fly with Magic fly :)

Funnily enough out of the group that I went with, think I'm the only one left on the scene. :D
