However, in general the view of a packed and rocking dancefloor when such biggies (in their day) like Rhino, Bob Relf were playing. Awesome, jaw dropping sight. Also the sight from the balcony when the Vel-vets was playing and all the hands shooting up at the Whoooo bit.

Danny Daniels from Peterborough? he won the dance comp at the Casion anniversary in 1975, taught him everything, my mams front room carpet at 30 Fletton Ave bears testament to that , aint see the boy for years however after two decades of personal abuse they tell me he's getting his life back into some sort of normaility

I had spinning off to a fine art and Booper always made a bee line for me and dance next to me to intimidate me, Never worked, but he felt the need to do it.

I was asked by an Indian guy if I would teach him for cash but it was always somethin personal to me, Like my Identification.

Yes,Jill.Totally agree.Some folk can spin well,some can do good floor acrobatics but often cant pull off the footwork skill.I like to watch people dance who use there whole body in rythmn and time to the music;who make it look so effortless (even tho am sure it's not) and almost like they are just "simply gliding"(if thats the rite word)across the floor.

I NEVER mock or criticise ANYONES style of dancing at venues but I ALWAYS make a point of COMPLEMENTING someone who has been just MAGIC and TRANSFIXING to watch on the dance floor.Specially the one's who make the hair's on my arms stand up who just have a natural "talent" for dancing to this music.

Am enlightenend that it's not only me who watches and appreciates the subject of this topic.

quite right too soo, i`ll allways remember chris many years ago at an alldayer at the bop in york dancing to your magic put a spell on me, he was in full flight that day, great to see, there was some very intresting moves by the york dancers mr o`hara with his cossack dancer routine, andy hudson had some good moves too

No one mention ME....i was on the tv program they made about wigan.....i won a couple of dance comps down south,and the one in my bedroom!!!!!!!!!! came first.

Best guys from down south were the Lee twins,Dennis&Rob......

I have seen some VERY IMPRESSIVE female dancers over the years.My "icon" dancer in the YORK 'HEARTBEAT' days was a girl called MARGARET ALDERSON.Never forgotten her name cos I was entranced by her footwork when I first visited this venue in my "underage teens",and I'm sure thats who and where my style of dancing has been formed from.The ONLY other girl who impressed me

to that extent was a lass who won the dancing competition at Wigan,once.She was slight in build and always had her hair in bunches.

I remember that nite she blew them all away,blokes as well,and danced like there was going to be no tomorrow.Have NEVER seen ANY(female) to this day to match her.Of course I've seen some excellant lady movers over the years,but none who had an impact on me like she did.

I truly DONT LIKE "BEST DANCER" comps,at all,but I remember rooting for this lass and rite proud of her when she pulled it off and was credited "the best"on the stage that nite,but for the life of me,I can't freaking well remember her name.

Fink it were "POLLY' or sumut like that.Most probably way out with the name.

Quite right about your dancing soo, you allways did cut a fine rug yourself, and still do, the lass who kev joss`s with now LESLIE from aycliffe is and was a fine mover as well, allways liked to watch a lady called cathy kirby think she was from leeds, you know how things stick in your mind allways remember her dancin to sergio mendez-love music, in mr m`s great to see as ive said was never a dancer but watched on in absolute awe

Don't know mate but I can tell you that I was once knocked senseless when a big lad from Peterlee set about a-twirling next to me on the dancefloor and punched me in the head as he slowed it down...I had a big fat headache and was concussed Can't for the life of me remember his name but he usuaklly wore a black trilby hat

But that's just the luck I have in life. Another time when I was in Halifax before travelling on to Wigan I was standing in a crowded pub when the lad in front of me and the lad behind me decided that it would be a good time to have a fight...with me sandwiched in the middle of em...took a blow to my right ear...ouch...came up like a cauliflower...my fella threw a few punches and got me out of the way...in that order...we moved on to another place...as I recall it was a wmc owned by the Batchelors...was sitting on a long bench minding my own business when a lad came over and meant to banjo the lad who was sitting next to me but got me instead...right on the side of me bonce...knocked me senseless...but I still made Wigan

Nightmare, But as long as you made it to Wigan. I can manage about 1 rotation and then i`m in a heap, although on the odd occasion i have managed 2.

Cathy Kirby was from Bradford I think Harry. She was a good pal of Jinx and Les who you've mentioned. Les was often stuck in a dancing comp when money was tight and she always came up trumps

You couldn't beat Jacquie Temple from Darlo for her stomping...don't know how she did it as she was a big lass but oh so graceful...she is sadly no longer with us so RIP me old marra.

Oh and Janet Lawson from Darlo was also a good dancer and she could stomp too. She left the scene years ago and got into rock music

I like dancing myself and thoroughly enjoy every minute that I do. But as much a part of any night for me is watching others also. No matter how someone dances, most have something in their routine that catches the eye. Something different from everyone else.

post.PENNY ELLIOTT springs to mind.

I dont s'pose there's anyone out there can confirm this for me? I often wonder if she is still on the scene and dancing as sooperb as she did in the 70's.

Anyway,if that is the right name and your out there somewhere,THANK YOU PENNY for having a lasting impact on me over the last 30odd years.I mention your WIGAN dance comp win still to this day.YOU WERE AWESOME that nite and I havent seen anyone,yet,to match you(female wise).

I know it did and it seemed fitting to mention it here...and remember its all in the footwork...and yours truly is impeccable...cos I made a point of watching it afterwards...totally controlled and you make it look so easy...which it isn't...I don't know how you lot do it as it takes me all my time to walk properly when I'm out never mind dance...oh well I might just get the hang of it one day

yes jerry yourself, paul ,steve were the guys with the moves we looked up to and admired for your dancin skills constantly trying to imitate but rarely achieving it and as paul showed last time at soulfusion he can still cut a rug lol.

TOTALLY AGREE, I THINK BACK IN THEM DAYS MOST PEOPLE COULD MORE OR LESS STRUTT THEIR STUFF EVEN IF THEY WERE'NT THAT GOOD WITH THEIR FOOTWORK. IT SEEMED AT LEAST THEIR BODIES HAD A FEEL FOR THE RYTHM + THE BEAT OF THE MUSIC. DON'T KNOW IF IT'S ME OR NOT BUT IT SEEMS A LOT OF THE YOUNG'ENS CAN'T DANCE IN TIME OR RYTHM TO THE MUSIC [ even with it being generally a lot slower pace these days ].
