60's NORTHERN, GOOD 'N PROPER!
60’s Northern, Good and Proper: bangers and belters, stompers and stonkers, floaters and finger snappers, and …er…that about covers it! All in Ex condition unless otherwise stated. No time to add witty sales banter (ho ho, lolz etc) so the records will just have to sell themselves. Please do read the T’s & C’s below if something is floating your boat… now with added Larry Davis listing to go with the photo!!! *** SOLD *** Lloyd & Glen - Minnie Skirts & Go Go Boots - BRA vg++ £130 The Versatiles - You're Good Enough For Me - Bronco (demo) £75 The Spidells - If It Ain't One Thing It's Another - Coral (Canadian) £100 The Vipers - Little Miss Sweetness - Duchess £75 The Superlatives - Don't Let True Love Die - Dynamics £120 Felice Tayor - I Can Feel Your Love - Kent (demo) £75 Larry Davis - I've Been Hurt So Many Times - Kent (demo) £300 *** ON HOLD *** The Marvellos - Something's Burnin' - Loma £80 The Danderliers - All The Way - Midas £75 Pat Thompson & Archie Powell - Darling Darling - Mir A Don £200 The Jades - I Know The Feeling - Poncello £250 Dynamic Heartbeats - It Ain't No Secret/Danger - P.S £75 *** SOLD *** The Fabulous Dimensions - I Can't Take It Baby - Sapphire £130 The Inverts - Look Out Love - Tower £75 (VG+ plays far more loudly and clearly than it’s appearance suggests) ***SOLD***Tommy Yates & Imperial Showband - Darling, Something's Gotta Give - Verve £80 (RIP Tommy Tate) Priscilla Thomas - Step Aside - Winner 7-11 (demo) £45 ************************************************************************************************************************************************** * Making an offer to buy - please PM me but also note on the sales thread there's a PM on the way * Prices - while I'm sure my prices are reasonable, I might be open to offers on some titles, so ask. Worst that could happen is I’ll say no, or maybe I’ll tell you to bugger off if you’re being really silly, but we’ll still be pals ;-) Seriously, don't sit there and think "oh that's a pity, it's £x more than I think it's worth" - make me an offer. * Shipping - £8 for UK deliveries over £50 by Special Delivery; £3 for 1st Class ‘Signed For’ if under £50. Please note these are standard Royal Mail prices, rounded up to cover the cost of proper packaging, and are not negotiable. For overseas destinations, please ask. * Payment - PayPal only, and must be made on my acceptance of your offer. If you wish the peace of mind of paying as a business transaction, please add 4% to the total (ie record plus shipping). If you want a wee bit of time to pay then just ask, but please don't assume I'll hold a record without prior arrangement. * Returns - no quibble, full refund on the safe return of any record, where you disagree with my condition grading or if I haven't mentioned an obvious fault. I make a point of posting pics so you can see the condition of the labels before you buy. I won't accept returns because of a label's appearance, or because you've decided you don't really like the record after all, or some other daft reason. Ok, that's the formal jive out the way. Thanks for looking, hope you find something of interest! Ta ta Alan

[SOLD] THE VOLUMES - AIN'T GONNA GIVE YOU UP / AM I LOSING YOU - KAREN
Cheers Ady. If you don't already know it, check out Am I Losing You on the flip, excellent crossover sound. Jimmy Delphs did a fine version that's much cheaper and easier to come by!

[SOLD] THE VOLUMES - AIN'T GONNA GIVE YOU UP / AM I LOSING YOU - KAREN
*** update at Monday 6th Feb: current bid £1650, closes tonight at 7pm*** AUCTION With demand for this fine, double-sided Detroit rarity soaring, I’ve made the difficult decision to part with it. No need for any sales blurb here, this record sells itself. Both sides are in Ex condition, playing crisp, loud and clear. See the pics: there are feint surface marks which do not affect play at all, including the mark on the run in on the Ain’t Gonna Give You Up side – that’s just a mark, not a scratch. Labels are nice and clean, too. The bar has been set with a copy going for £1500 a few weeks ago, so that’s my minimum. This is not negotiable. The auction will end at 7pm on Monday 6th February. I’ll keep bidders updated every few days. Please guys and gals, keep all correspondence relevant and by PM. Do not clog up my post with jive-ass bollocks about how it was only £8 when the first copies turned up in 1989/90 (and yep, that’s what this copy cost me), or how Ollie McLaughlin demanded you take a 50-box away so he could free up space in his garage (which would be a brilliant story to tell, just not here). This is my first attempt at holding an auction: while I have a solid team of experienced advisers behind me - hiya Andy - there might be the odd administrative hiccup along the way. In that event, please bear with me. Payment by PayPal only. Add £10 for Special Delivery to UK. If not paying as a gift, add the 4% PayPal charge to the total. Thanks for looking and good luck! Alan

Is it me, but
I started selling off my collection this year, wee lists of 10 or so records every couple of weeks, on here and Facebook. I've been off the scene since the early 90's so have to rely on advice from good friends who are still at it, and by noting the asking prices of sales of records I know I have. I guess there might be a few sellers in the same boat as me. It's far from being an exact science and I've got it wildly wrong on a few occasions - £500 for Frank Dell was rapidly cut down to £400 after Darren Brown listed one the following day and sold it within hours; and sold a Lloyd and Glen on BRA for £20 when £200 was nearer the mark - but I've done pretty well so far. I resisted the temptation to sell up for years, purely out of spite. I got these records the hard way - haggling, hustling, punting gear, bargain hunting, getting lists form the States: I hated the thought of some fanny with a laptop, a wallet full of credit cards but no history just pushing a button and instantly acquiring my treasures, but needs must. I have a daughter to provide for, all the money's getting stashed away for her, so I've got to try get as much as I possibly can. Besides, I don't want to be that guy who sells his Masqueraders/How for - say - £900, only for buyer to promptly fire it up on ebay for £1500. That would frazzle my brain beyond endurance! I've been very surprised at how polite it's all become. In Ye Olden Days we would routinely haggle on price, even if it was fair, but very seldom has anyone come back to me to ask if I'd take a lower price. I have even taken to inviting folk to make an offer if they think it's too much; it's prompted a few more responses but not much.

The 'two houses' line does conveniently buy him some time, right enough, but thanking the Almighty for not burning his records clearly demonstrates he is a fine, upstanding Christian gentleman of good moral fibre...

It does seem more than a little odd that he should have multiples of so many rarities, but then again the story of how he acquired them is plausible-ish. So what's the suspicion here: he doesn't have these and is just stealing people's money? Or is he knocking out these new super-boots?

Quality Crossover / Later 60’s-Early 70's Northern Soul
How’do Folks, more good grooves from my collection, on the Crossover tip. Fine musical tackle of the highest calibre… Albert Jones - Fifteen Cent Love - Kapp (ex) - £100 one of that rare band of 70’s tunes championed by our man Guy Hennigan back in the day. As you can see, some buffoon took a pen to the label – it’s quite subtle on the main side (the circle around the middle, kinda looks like part of the design) but has blanked out Albert’s name on the flip. Shame, but it plays fine as wine… The Composers - Let’s Get To the Point / Chances Go Round - Complex 3 (vg++) - £75 relisting this at a reduced price after previous sale fell through, it’s just too darn good to get filed away. 2 good jaunty mid tempo sides (and you don’t see ‘jaunty’ used in sales chat too often!) Johnny Gilliam - Baby Take Me Back - Modern demo (ex) - £120 - brilliant, brilliant, brilliant Stafford goodness The Notations - You Should Know - Sue (looks vg+, plays a loud, crisp clear Ex) - £420 I tried like a good ‘un to break this jaunty (it’s that word again) belter in Scotland in my disc jockeying days, to no avail, the cultureless haggis botherers that they are. Thankfully it seems to be getting due attention these days. Good! The New Group - Love Can’t be Modernized - Gemini (ex) - £225 - if my man Leonard Jewell Smith ain’t in here somewhere then I’m Chico Lamarr. Lovely, lovely mid tempo… *** SOLD *** Ronnie McCain - This Time I’m Gone - Triode £150 this fellow looks like he’s lived the life: he’s scuffed, got some surface scratches and a soft hiss like a snake with a sore throat. But he’s a hardy brother who’ll do a DJ set justice (and when you’re just having a wee groove about the house). Price reflects condition, as they say… *** SOLD *** James Kelly Duhon - In School - Jude (ex) - £60 another jaunty belter, TUNE! Cam Cameron - They Say - Capri (ex) £250 not the rarer gold label but still a tough find nowadays, been a long time since this was a soul pack staple. And it’s splendid! The Rotations - Don’t ever Hurt Me Girl - Law-Ton (ex) £80 another I had no joy playing out back in the day, maybes more suited for today’s tastes. Not unlike their DeBrossard dancer… Maxine Crayton - Don’t Take Your Love - Steel Town (ex) - £50 knock down price for this…er…’jaunty’ dancer Terms (please do read this if you're gonna buy something) : Making an offer to buy - please PM me but also note on the sales thread there's a PM on the way. First all nighter record that you remember most
Wigan 5th Oldies Anniversary was my first niter, Feb '81. 'Night Owl' was the only record played I recognised so I guess that fits the bill. Not so cool...

5 Classy 60's Mid Tempo's
Haven't sold a doggone, Goddam, muthafreakin thang all weekend, and we can't have that. Come on fellas and ladeeez, help a brother out and set about this here list. It's Sunday night: in Ye Goode Olde Days we'd be trying to get out heads around going into work tomorrow after being up and at it since Friday, so the tunes had to be a wee bit calmer. Here's 5 marvelous, mid tempo movers no decent collection should be without: proper, soulful Northern Soul, none of that beat ballad bollocks, with singers sounding like they've escaped from a Broadway musical! All are in Excellent condition: The Commands - No Time For You / Hey It's Love - Dynamic £125 two gorgeous sides **SOLD*** The Commands - Don't Be Afraid to Love Me - Dynamic £70 it's that band again, achingly soulful track ***SOLD*** Bobby Sansom - Don't Leave - Sublime £65 such an aptly named label! ***SOLD*** Three Jades - Show Me Your Way - Maurci £75 yep, the Monique label. Not in the same class (not much is) but a class track nonetheless, and a tough findeh Glenrothes *** ON HOLD*** The Moovers - One Little Dance - Deep City £130 brilliant track, on the rarer local label before Brent. Ray and Dave - Wrong Wrong Wrong - Mica £150 an old favourite from the Glenrothes niters in early 80's when easier to pick up. Not so now... ***SOLD*** Fred Parris & Restless Hearts - I'll Be Hanging On / I Can Really Satisfy - Green Sea £60 only got around to playing this again after 30-odd years and quite forgot how fine it is, and with a thoroughly decent dancer on the flip that I don't think I noticed before!! ***************************************************************************** Terms: Making an offer to buy - please PM me but also note on the sales thread there's a PM on the way. Prices - while I'm sure my prices are reasonable, I might be open to offers on some titles, so ask. 4 Quality 60's & 70's Northern
Howdy folks, a few pulled at random from the collection today... The Professionals - My Heart Belongs To You / There Goes My Baby - Action Pac VG+ £225 much loved early group sound, and a decent dancer on flip. It looks like it's had a hard life - there's surface scratches, scuffs and some fool took a pen to the label but it plays clear. Price reflects the appearance. Milton Wright - Like A Rolling Stone / I Belong To You - Satiron demo Ex £750 only just found this in the depths of my collection, one of only 300 copies I'm told. I'm also told Mr Manship auctioned one for £860, so that makes this a bargain! The Pretenders - Just Be Yourself - Carnival Ex £325 classic Mecca gem that's getting attention again Leroy Taylor - Oh Linda / Nobody Can Love You - Brunswick Ex £100 splendid oldie with another right good dancer on flip , seldom seen ********************************************************************************************************************** Terms: Making an offer to buy - please PM me but also note on the sales thread there's a PM on the way.
