  1. Yes sometimes it can a breath of fresh air, I've heard Sam play I Told You So Delphonics & I'll Be Around (Detroit ) Spinners , among some of his big priced records .
  2. His MVPs on Uk Buddah went for £102.00 !!!!!!! The previous one on ebay caught £16.00!!
  3. I remember buying this in the 70's
  4. Its almost impossible to pick a favourite but one of the main tunes that took me into Motown Stax Atlantic and later Northern Soul was I Cant Help Myself . Here's Levis unmistakable voice guesting with Grover Washington jnr. https://youtu.be/xe11TJlYfO4
  5. Both my father and father in law made many trips across the pond in the fifties and early sixties my own father was not interested in music to any great extent ( my sisters had fantastic dolls and I had a brilliant cowboy outfit) however my father in-law had some fantastic Blue Note first presses along with Dave Brubeck and Woody Hermann albums.
  6. I remember reading that John Lennon took a Tamla single (could have been the Marvelettes) to George Martin requesting that he recreate that sound on their own records something to do with the bass.
  7. On the b side of the abc issue, better than the topside?
  8. This one took me completely my surprise while listening to my i pod this morning with references to a 'peace train' and,1,465 days (tour of duty or length of the conflict) and date (1973 end of the conflict) I know bring it on home has other associations in soul music but maybe they were cashing in on Freda Paynes 'Bring the boys home'
  9. One for you pete
  10. And don't forget Forget me Not
  11. https://youtu.be/Q6Q4lRdJrp0 Any excuse to push one of my favorites
  12. Great thread I'll probably come up with another before day is out, so keep it going
  13. I'm out here fighting..........hungry, and fish ain't bitin' life's so frightening I'm out here stumblin' broke an' crumblin' nothing's happenin' and I ain'catching nothing nothing Fish Ain't Biting. Lamont Dozier 1974 Brilliant social comment for the time and a reflection of my own personal circumstances at the time
  14. I think this tape might have been made by my mate Kevin, a small group of us used to travel from the Wirral where Northern Soul was totally unheard of . If i remember Kevin got a seat on the balcony RHS and dangled the mike from his dads portable cassette recorder over the edge. The cutting out of the DJs was to get the maximum amount of sounds on the tape it being only a C45 and battery life was limited (don't even think Duracel had arrived at that tape). It might well have been Sat/Sun 27/28 October it would have been the eve of my 18th. Another reason I thought it was Kev 'cos he always harped on about the You Want It You Got It instrumental track, The Detroit Emeralds had had the hit in '72 I think he wanted to play it on Terry Lennaines Keep on Truckin show. Great memories, I'm sure that RS was there
  15. Yep both the Buss and Mean Green are the same record A & B, case of identity change for what reason I do not know. Perhaps someone can enlighten us.
  16. Two really good crossover sides paid £40 for mine a couple of years ago, really loud pressing but hard to find in mint condition(like many Chicago records)
  17. One of three Chess mobile Discotheque which had Denise Lasalle's Love Reputation and Joy Lovejoy's In Orbit on it and Avco Embassy mobile Discotheque, one of them was segued, ie the tracks ran into each other . which was a bit disconcerting but it was aimed at dj's and parties where continuous music was the name of the game!!!! The Glass House track I don't see me in your eyes anymore was done by Ty Hunter possibly later than than Glass House on the same lable.
  18. this thread reminds me of Baz's "another crossover Friday"....which I sorely miss (my wallet however does not!) Some great posts so far, keep it up Detroit Emeralds must be the fore runners in overlooked classics?
  19. I don't think you're in a minority, the track suffers as being lp only. Superb production showcases OC's vocals to the utmost
  20. Sublime track Mike Terry (for a fiver) Can't locate a clip of it at the moment (but you'll find it in Colin Dilnots In dangerous Rhythm blog) Ambers Don't Go Jean 1973
  21. Two from me both should be in everyone's collection.... if not why? John
  22. I never new that before, I guess I was too impatient, long intro, is there an edit?
  23. probably because it didn't originate from there. most true scousers love C&W music
