  1. Some things get auctioned too early, I think Rey Villar was one. Me and Dave both have copies out of that pile that surfaced.
  2. I saw Gil Scot Heron and Brian Jackson down there also, great gig!!
  3. Great days for me when I moved down to Walsall from Yorkshire back in 1980, to find an oasis in Brum. Always loved the all dayers on a Sunday. I never knew about a modern room upstairs though, just the main hall and the 'exotic' Bali Hai' room which had amazing jazz funk dancers in and was always worth poking your head in for a look even if you wouldn't dare try dancing.
  4. That Ohio Players is a lovely 45. BobA put me onto that one.
  5. George Mahood had one for sale a couple of weeks back - he might still have it?
  6. Some very nice jazzy tones and instrumentation on some of the tracks, muted trumpet, flute etc that I love, but I find the drum sound a bit too heavy and hard and the vocals straying a bit close to Terence Trent Darby territory for my liking. I do really rate the 'Soul Devotion' track though and I like the vibe of 'San Francisco'. Generally it's just a bit heavy and clunky for me.

That's a belter jocko, flip me, I haven't heard that before. Shame she looks like Robbie Williams in a wig on the cover though.
  8. Me too Nev. That bit in the middle took up most of the record it seemed and the brilliant verses and chorus' as has been said, were pitifully short.
  9. The slow flip of the Heartbreakers is the killer side for me.

I know, where do you start?
  11. I think it's got a nice jazzy vibe to it, almost like a Terry Callier Ordinary Joe feel with a simple piano and beat rhythm which is very cool. The guy has a good soulful voice but he takes off too high in the chorus' and the recording distorts everytime he does it making me wince whenever I hear it. I think it's a great dancer though and I could imagine it working really well in the big halls.

Fantastic tune, one of my favourite records. It's got to be a hard 45 to get now. The LP used to be a holy grail rare but i've seen far more of them for sale than the 45. It was Bob Cosby who first put me onto this at one Yarmouth weekender and I just had to find myself a copy which I did a few years later from Karl Marthon.
  13. Damn!! I reckon I sold this a bit too early.... I even made a loss on what i paid for it. I seem to remember Steve Clancy dropping the price a few times on a copy he was selling for cheap as well.
  14. Me too, although I maintain that their question is phrased wrong.
  15. Quite a tough boot I think. What's the going price for it?
  16. No, that was April stephens.
  17. Surprised the Oscar Weathers 45 is still there Des. Blinding little 45.
  18. Ruby and Mudflaps putting a big smile on my face Dave!! Lovely tune.
  19. You might find it easier to go to a big weekender like Prestatyn and trawl through all the records on sale there.

Kings Heath on the A435. If you're in Birmingham head out to Mosely and just carry on a bit till it becomes Kings Heath, it;s there. I'm pissed off as my young 'un is having a birthday sleep over on Friday with some of his pals at our house so I won't be able to make it.
  21. Ha...I've got a Samuel Curtis in my house.

This used to get quite a few plays at Wigan Casino as a new release. Fantastic tune.
  23. I defy anyone watching that clip to have dry eyes... as you say Kev, utterly heartbreaking and emotional.
