  1. Here's the killer side.
  2. No it doesn't. the opening bars are similar and that's about it.
  3. Big Danny Canaan was the main guy wasn't he? A top bloke and a real talented producer and artist. He used to work with some good vocalists as well, Faye Brown from Oldbury ws someone I used to play in a band with who worked with Danny. Danny toured with Bitty McClean as their bass player. Jordi
  4. Couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this. I always thought it was a pleasant £25 crossover tune. Has Butch been speeding it up and giving it some serious nighter plays? https://www.ebay.com/itm/HI-FI-WHITE-Need-Somebody-NORTHERN-SOUL-45-on-SANDMAN-705-/200831106152?pt=Music_on_Vinyl&hash=item2ec2777c68
  5. No, you're wrong. This is Tony Drake.
  6. Nor me, but for those that don't want to pay the $$ for the orig can at least play it at home, hopefully not DJ with it.
  7. Another one re issued now, hopefully legally.
  8. Nice price for 2 cracking sides.
  9. Happy Birthday Joe. Thanks for playing a part in the soundtrack of my youth with "I'm Falling In Love With You Baby". Best regards...Jordi Ripolles (UK)
  10. Very nicely put Sean I think we have to accept there are two scenes now. I personally think the progressive part should drop the term 'Northern Soul' as it has now been appropriated by the Nostalgia scene and it's comedy clothes and car boot tat. As a northerner myself, it's not something I feel proud about, in fact it's an embarassment and I'm fed up of explaining to non scene people what it is I'm 'in to' as the only references they have are the nostalgia ones. Jordi
  11. What has class got to do with anything? You can't buy good taste.
  12. Why would he need to DJ? may be he should use what small amount of income he has and get together with some mates and travel to a soul do and just enjoy someone else DJing. Why does everyone feel they have to be a DJ? I think anyone deciding to embark on being a DJ now from scratch must be mental. Too many DJ's already, records are so expensive, fickle crowds who are never happy, Nah, your hypothetical stereotyped working class soul fan from a shoebox should find the kind of music he likes, research which DJ's and venues cater for that and then go and enjoy someone else playing the tunes to the punters. 13. Mines on Connowil with 'Another Star' as the A side. I have to say that I prefer the Connowil version of 'Your Love', it's not as smooth, the strings sound warmer and it's got a better head nodding bass groove. IMHO. I didn't realise that there were two different mixes until this thread, although I did know about the two different labels. Jordi
  14. Don't panic, have faith in your selections. If you bow to every request to "play something decent / what we know / what we can dance to / turn this shite off" etc then you'll never get to play a record all the way through! (at some venues ) Jordi 'clearing floors for 15 years'
  15. I don't agree with you there Terry. Sure, if you play a 60's followed by a 70's followed by an 80's followed by another 60's etc randomly, then I would agree, but someone who knows what they are doing will play a few of the right tunes of each genre and blend into the next genre by skillfully choosing the right record that effortlessly makes the bridge from one genre to the next, and there always are those records that have a similar rhythm or vibe that do cross successfully from one era to another. You don't have to chop and change every record but blending eras certainly works if the DJ is good and knows his or her tunes. Jordi

Bargain on the Blues Bag LTd 45. Jordi
  17. Shouldn't be more than £50 - £60 I wouldn't have thought Jason, may be cheaper. It's the flip to his version of Stevie's 'Another Star' and it's a good version. It's on Connowil label also. Jordi
  18. I love this tune. The drums sound fantastic and up in the mix, great studio work by the engineer whoever it might have been. Jordi
  19. Not this Techno side though Mal. The 'Earthly' side was good but I couldn't get on with the vocals, especially when you have a listen to Lonnie Liston smith. Still got it somewhere. Great times for underground UK music with real instruments, Talkin' Loud being one of the best labels. Jordi
  20. Is there some way of refreshing your computer so it sees everything as it should do Bob? I've got a lot more in view now than before but still not everything. Jordi
  21. Our David has been playing this for some years Dave, off the Tiger Lilly LP. Jordi
  22. Kegsy, I think you'll find that most of the European guys are well clued up about all aspects and genres of our scene. They may not carry the baggage and politics of who played what, where and first or oldies versus progressive, Wigan, Torch, wheel blah, blah etc, but what they have is a real open mindedness when it comes to DJing and dancing. They will mix up styles and they will dance to tunes they aren't familiar with, so the dancefloors are busy. They also own some of the most in demand and desireable tunes in the world. Jordi
  23. Usually good promoters book DJ's that will be right for the kind of night they are wanting to put on. A good DJ will be booked for what he /she can bring to the party, the way they play and the types of tunes they carry will be known in advance. Sure, a bit of catering to the crowd is good, but hopefully the crowd will be on the DJ's side if they've chosen the right venue for their night out. Jordi
