That's not how we in the UK define crossover though. If that was the case then anything soulful that wasn't singing about God would be termed crossover. I think the UK definition has been well and truly dissected properly on other threads. Jordi
  2. Pat, I'll be there as well. I might recognise you by your walk. Jordi

Probably £30 if it's the issue with the nice crossover flip. Jordi
  4. Straight to the police mate. No one should be threatening your family, and then find Dave Conway and see what he knows. Jordi

Out of interest, what does the Love, Peace and Happiness on ABAB go for now. I haven't seen a copy up for sale for years. Absolute class 45. Jordi

I know what you mean, I must have closed my eyes when I bought it for £25 a few years back and opened them when it was £180. Jordi

I agree Steve. Have a nice soul night in with some likeminded mates listening to the vinyl, perhaps the odd vinyl carvers or cd track thrown in for discussion purposes. Not that it ever need happen. So long as Dj's make sure they play a few unknowns or new discoveries or underplayed tunes then it will be alright for me on the scene. Bollocks to the moaners who only want to hear 100% tunes they know already, there'd not be a scene at all if DJ's hadn't introduced unknown tracks into their sets whether it was at Wigan, Cleethorpes, Torch, Twisted Wheel etc etc. Certain people would always stop dancing, but those same people would be dancing to them a few weeks later if the records were good. Jordi
  8. The flip of the excellent Christian Plique track is by Berry St. Station on LeCam also, mind you it's awful. Jordi

Midlands is very bad. I know that the Stafford Rangers do has been cancelled. Jordi
  10. I'll take it off yer hands and give you 200% profit. You can't say fairer than that can you. Jordi
  11. --> QUOTE(mark.b @ Feb 8 2007, 08:09 PM) link anybody got any bargains lately my bargain of the year was walter and sisters how long studio 10 $62.00 also a soothers on port $26.00 both of ebay mark I saw that Walter and Sis. Was thinking about having a punt on it then forgot. I nearly coughed up my dinner when I saw what it went for! £150 usually. Nice 'un Mark. Jordi
  12. I've seen it for £800 before now. The one on Ebay was quite a bit less than perfect as well. Definately one of the best crossover tunes. Jordi
  13. I'm amazed that the Rotations hasn't sold at that price, awesome record. Jordi
  14. What did the one on manships auction go for? It is a hard one. I had about 4 or 5 copies from Neil Rushton a few years back that he had in his lock up since the 70's and they flew out like shit off a shovel. They came in with a batch of Larry Houstons from Philly at the time. I think it was played at the Mecca but I've never heard of a 45 though. It's a cracker of a tune, especially when it drops down to the killer groove a third of the way through. Jordi
  15. Very hard on a 45 this one. Sam had one, don't know if he still plays it so you could try him Chris. Mind you the LP is bloody difficult to get as well. I would have thought the LP would be at least £150. Re. the Mojoba, I was with a mate of mine, Gary Holyman looking through records at a record fair in Walsall some years back and he was in a box just in front of me (as usual) and he pulls out a mint Mojoba issue for 50p, the swine! Jordi
  16. Different thing altogether Gene I think. It's actually a 70's 'tailor made', done by a white UK group who did other stuff to cash in on the Casino buzz at the time. It didn't get a US release as far as I know. It sounds as though it should be awful but it's actually a very good modern, almost crossover midtempo dancer with really nice horns in it and decent vocals for a white fella. I probably shouldn't have sold it to Ian as my missus told me not to, so I'll no doubt regret it especially if she finds out!! Jordi
  17. Ian, I've got one if you want it. £30. Jordi
  18. No offence taken at all Nev . I do happen to think Unique Blend was too played out a couple of years ago, although I haven't actually heard it for a while now. I do love the record though, in fact I love all their records. Jordi
  19. Yes it is / was. When I used to play Donnie Burkes it wasn't though, about 4 or 5 years back. I was just saying they sound right next to each other. Jordi
  20. The Donny Burkes is a great tune, it always sounds like it should be played back to back with Unique Blend - Yes I'm in love. Very similar groove. So many great crossover tunes around that don't break the bank. Jordi
  21. Blimey Lin, I think we must have been posting at the same time. Jordi
  22. OOps, sorry Pedro didn't notice that you were on about modern stuff. May be you should try the Midlands with Soul Underground and Mark Randal's and Fish's events there's plenty going on to cover your tastes, it's only an hour and a half away. Jordi
  23. Bloody hell Pedro, for a first post it sure is a downer. Have you ever been to the Orwell in Wigan or do you keep going to the same places with the same 5 DJ's that you don't like? That could explain it 'cos I'm sure if you'd been to the Orwell and seen the dancefloor reaction to the cracking tunes that get played there you wouldn't be posting this. Jordi
  24. Seems to be more copies of this around for sale, (probably as you say because of the high price all of a sudden making owners think f**k me I can get £800 if I sell it) than Mojoba and Reason Why. Still, it's a great record that I would love to have. Jordi
  25. Master Henry Gibson, now there's a talented fella. I really like this record but I always think of it as a good £50 tune for some reason. Staying with the Curtis / Master Henry Gibson congas and percussion vein, I think Patti Jo's "Ain't no love lost" is as good if not better. Jordi
