Help Wanted
I haven't really got a jar of glue John... but i'm sure i would have remembered hearing a different version of Lashawn Collins... probably just not heard it yet eh. Here's my yellow label copy anyway... maybe fellow soul sourcers will post the other colours up and that way we can all compare them.. i think it's dead interesting

Female Record Collector's
What a strange thing to say.... not the kind of thing i would expect to hear from a relatively new to the scene 25 year old.... a male chauvenist 50 something year old maybe

Tony Hestor - Down In The Dumps
Yeah saw him at Dunstable too... but that night at Manchester was just incredible. It was just really 'personal'... if you know what i mean... you'll know what i mean Chalky... hard to put into words. The bit during Cool Off where he says... "by the way... does anybody over there.. have a drink of ... pop?"... can still see John Hodge running up to the stage in his sheepie to give him a can of coke! Just brill! Will be happy to do copies for anyone who would like one... just pm me where you would like it sending and i will get them off asap

Tony Hestor - Down In The Dumps
I have a tape of Popcorn Wylie live at Manchester International 1986 (i think). I tell you... i have seen Popcorn Wylie on quite a few occaisions... always a top act... but this nite was incredible!! He does everything... Down in the Dumps... Sweet Darlin... I'm saving my lovin... If it's all the same to you... Cool Off... but when he does Hanky Panky... woooh .. completely blows you away! He's dead talkative too.. telling you when he wrote and recorded stuff... talks about Tony Hester.. it's great.... one of my most treasured tapes ever. Can put it on cd if anyone would like one...(as long as i'm not comitting some major crime in doing so)... just let me know

Female Record Collector's
Female record collectors... let me see.... Well I've been on the scene for around 25 years or so... collected records for a good 20 of those years.... oh... and I'm female... well.. sort of.. Anyway... here's what i think about women on the scene... niters.. collecting.. DJing etc... Ok... there will always be certain situations in life where a man will be able to do something better than a woman... Men are stronger than women are (as a rule) and will therefore be better at things that require physical strength... Record collecting... however... is not one of them. Thinking about it... apart from the strength thing... i can only think of one thing that men do better than women... and that is their ability to have a piss standing up! To be taken seriously on this scene... respected for your knowledge... your records... and your passion and love for soul music has never been easy... whether you are male or female. I have had one major name DJ/record dealer shut his box on me saying "a mans got to do what a mans got to do" and to "run along and get myself a part time job in a patisserie"... wtf? Surprisingly I chose to ignore that little 24-carat nugget of testosterone induced wisdom. There is an old saying... respect needs to be earned... and boy, this applies to the soul scene like no other. But as long as YOU know that you have soul... that you love soul... that you are dedicated, genuine and humble... have respect for others... but most of all for yourself... then NOBODY can say you shouldn't be on the soul scene... or collecting records... or DJing... if that's what you want to do. Least of all some jumped up gimp sat behind a record box... with his head so far up his own arse he can brush his back teeth. Most record dealers... I am happy to say... are not like that. Male ... Female... what does it matter... it's what's in your boxes not in your boxers that counts! You'll be saying records by female artists have no place on the scene next...
