  1. Monster tune!!
  2. Lol. Glad you liked them. I think he's quality.
  3. I think John Legend's Get Lifted CD is one of the CDs of the decade. I would've thought that songs like PDA and Each Day Gets Better from the Once Again CD would be your cup of tea Ian?
  4. As far as I can recall, the Rocket was set up to compete with the exisiting London clubs. They had, until that point, co-operated and supported each other. It was set up the night after the Dome after didn't get a DJ spot there. Despite the bad feeling that was going on at the time I went to the opening night of the rocket because it had a nuch needed modern room in the capital. Sadly, it wasn't very good so I never returned.
  5. That's not the track listing on my CD. I thik I have Razzy instead of Jimmy Thompson as the last track. Anyway, excellent CD!
  6. Spirit of The Mecca and Soulful Kinda 70s are two excellent CDs on Goldmine.
  7. Thanks for putting them up. I preferred the second one to the first. However, it's not the same in my view. You can't recreate the original records made at the time, that were designed to sell, without any awareness of a soul scene in the UK. Also, they didn't sound dramitically different to your other productions. A lot of the mid 70s Mecca stuff had strings and things.
  8. I never went to Stafford or anything pre that, so forgive me if any these were played but I always thought of them as newies when I heard them in the late 90s/early 00s: Sammy Relford - Hey Girl Kenny Carter - What's That On Your Finger TC & The Bricklayers - Up and Down The Hill Little Dooley - If Ever I Needed You Joe Tex - I Wanna Be Free (possibly a Wheel tune?)
  9. Corey Glover (CD only but let's not go there...... )
  10. Soul Inc - My Proposal Bobby Womack - Home Is Where The Heart Is Jimmy Ricks - Feeling? (can't remember exactly but it used to get played at the end of the Dome)
  11. Hi Ian, A lot of the 70s records you and Colin pushed at the Mecca have really stood the test of time well and still continue to be popular today. However, your productions mostly try to emulate the typical mid 60s 4x4 sound. Do you not ever feel like you'd like to recreate the 70s Mecca sound? Thanks Dave

I agree with most of what Roger says and it's a bloody shame. I used to love travelling many miles for an allnighter. Hopefully the situation can be retrieved because if there was a good modern allnighter on thta came close to the late 90s, early 00s, I'd be up for it.
  13. Yes, great record. I played it early doors at the Kent Soul Club in April.

I'd say they tend to be of the soulful house variety. Stuff like Keith Thompson or Jody watley "Saturday Night Experience" is as good as an instrumental. There's jazzy stuff too of course.

It's true . It may be very occassional but it happens. They are the reverse of DJ's who play only for themselves but play for the dancers in order to appear like a fantastic DJ who can read the floor. Possibly a LCD DJ

Yes, that's my interpretation too. I should also add that a Hotboxer doesn't neccessarily like the record, but thinks it'll be good to DJ with.
  17. Here's the answer! For this week anyway.. https://www.soul-source.co.uk/rare-northern...-peace-be-still
  18. I would guess about 1967 or 1968 but I don't know for sure. She's left Motown by the 70s or stopped recording for them.
  19. It doesn't give me the answers
  20. When and where in Lanzarote is this?
  21. Yep. "Where Are We Going" appears in the Best of Marvin Gaye 2CD set that came out in 2001. Available in all rare soul outlets like Tesco's, Asda, etc. "...Gonna Give You Respect" and another version (not quite as good) of "Where Are We Going" appear on the Let's Get It On Deluxe CD which is magnificent
  22. I think there's a few things going on depending on your definaition of modern soul. There are do's at Henry's in Aveling(? I think I've got that right). Chris Hill still does the Lacy lady in Ilford but I believe this is mostly Caister type stuff. Probably not exactly what you're after but that's about the closest I can think of. When I sort something out in Kent, I'll let you know.
  23. Donald McCullom also did a reasonable version a few years ago. The Omar/Angie Stone Blaze remix is the one though for the 21st century!
  24. It's on the UK version too Mark. https://www.hmv.co.uk/hmvweb/displayProduct...&sku=718627 I think it's her best CD in a long time. "In The Morning" and "Just Fine" are fab. The aforementioned Sir Wick CD is also very good/ "Thank You Lord" and "You Are My Everything" are superb. https://cdbaby.com/cd/sirwick
  25. I've got it on triple LP set and had assumed that it was released at the time it was recorded. Aretha's version is the best but Hil St. Soul is also very good.
