  1. I would guess about 1967 or 1968 but I don't know for sure. She's left Motown by the 70s or stopped recording for them.
  2. It doesn't give me the answers
  3. When and where in Lanzarote is this?
  4. Yep. "Where Are We Going" appears in the Best of Marvin Gaye 2CD set that came out in 2001. Available in all rare soul outlets like Tesco's, Asda, etc. "...Gonna Give You Respect" and another version (not quite as good) of "Where Are We Going" appear on the Let's Get It On Deluxe CD which is magnificent
  5. I think there's a few things going on depending on your definaition of modern soul. There are do's at Henry's in Aveling(? I think I've got that right). Chris Hill still does the Lacy lady in Ilford but I believe this is mostly Caister type stuff. Probably not exactly what you're after but that's about the closest I can think of. When I sort something out in Kent, I'll let you know.

Donald McCullom also did a reasonable version a few years ago. The Omar/Angie Stone Blaze remix is the one though for the 21st century!
  7. It's on the UK version too Mark. https://www.hmv.co.uk/hmvweb/displayProduct...&sku=718627 I think it's her best CD in a long time. "In The Morning" and "Just Fine" are fab. The aforementioned Sir Wick CD is also very good/ "Thank You Lord" and "You Are My Everything" are superb. https://cdbaby.com/cd/sirwick
  8. I've got it on triple LP set and had assumed that it was released at the time it was recorded. Aretha's version is the best but Hil St. Soul is also very good.
  9. Bearsy played it at the last Kent Soul Club night. It sounded fantastic!
  10. Lol. I heard a lot of good songs that night - Charles & Gwen Scales, Jean Carne & Glenn Jones, Robbie Danzie, Vivian Reed, Ali Ollie Woodson (but not Atlantic Starr ). Great venue.
  11. Personally, I think that's a good thing Steve. It's a great record and it's recent. Onwards and upwards!!
  12. LOve Don't Live is on the Village soul 2 CD. This shouldn't be too hard to get on 12", I wouldn't have thought. Is it actually being played at northern soul dos?
  13. Chubby Checker seems to think so
  14. Oi!! It's the way forward

I don't recall it being released on Grapevine 2000 Steve. Are you sure? I hate to doubt a man of your expertise lol.
  16. Looking forward to it Steve. the last one was a cracker.
  17. Agreed Steve. Through All Times is a great LP.

No, sorry but is it very good? Much better than "WYCBH"?
  19. The unreleased David Ruffin LP is on there, that had a very limited CD run. In fact, there's plenty of good stuff on it.
  20. He's also the ex husband of Mariah Carey, which beats being in The Poets in my book.
  21. Hello Pete, I seem to recall someone saying it has a while ago but can't recall the details. Is this the one you picked up at a bargain price a few years ago?
  22. I think soulful house has been part of the modern scene to some degree for a long time now. I think there was a particularly strong period about 5-8 years ago when loads of good new releases were coming out such as Masters At Work, Donna Allen, Big Moses, Dennis Ferrer, Arnold Jarvis, Keith Thompson, Blue Six, etc. I think that was kind of a peak period for me and some of the more recent stuff hasn't been so good and certainly not in the same quantity.
  23. Just get the CD. It also contains "Marvin Said" too which is nice, and a picture of George outside a London pub.

Michael Jeffries also had a stint too.
