  7. Absolute complete and utter bollocks.
  8. Dates for next year added to the Niter Planner (I was tempted to add every second Tuesday for Bidds, but then decided I couldn't be arsed )
  9. That was me I only said it as a piss take really, but all credit to Ged, before I even had the chance to wind him up he whipped his wallet out and gave me the twenty quid And the round of drinks cost me £18 Personally I always try and agree a fee with the promoter before the event. I then expect to be offered that fee, if the venue has a poor attendance it's then up to me whether I accept it. By the same token, if the place is rammed, I don't go and ask the promoter for more money. If you are a promoter, DJs fee's are a cost of promoting, same as venue hire, flyers / promotion, equipment, and all the thousand other things involved. You should agree a fee before the event, and have that money in your pocket when you arrive at the venue. It's the promoters job to promote the event, if he does it well, people will turn up and he will recoup his costs, if he fails to promote the event properly, people won't turn up, and the loss is his alone, and the DJ, who persumably has done his job, ie played records, should not be expected to shoulder any of that loss.
  10. Bloody hell it's only May I'm at work till 8 tonight, so it'll be tomorrow before I get round to it.
  11. Has anyone found an on-line shop selling it yet ?
  12. I think you answered your own question
  13. I would have thought that it's pretty obvious. It's a classed as fraud to issue cheques where there is no money in the account to honour them. As cheques have been issued where there is no money available, the people who issued those cheques would be arrested and charged with fraud, especially as it appears that there were multiple instances of cheques not being honoured.
  14. Here's the review I did of the book for my site Andrew Wilson - Northern Soul - Music, drugs, and subcultural identity - Willian Publishing - ISBN 978184322087 Originally written as a thesis for his PhD, Andrew Wilson, with this historical ethnography (And I had to look it up in the dictionary what a historical ethnography is !) has certainly covered his subject well. This is a heavyweight book ! Although the subject matter is related to the Northern Soul scene throughout because that's where Andrew drew his research from, this isn't a book about the Northern Soul scene, or even Soul music for that matter. It's a serious piece of research into the why's and wherefores of how and when , and what consequences, drugs have had on the cultural groupings of people who were into Northern in the Seventies. In all honesty, if you have been around the Northern scene for any length of time, you will recognise some of the scenarios discussed, perhaps not from personal experience, but you'll have heard of someone in those situations..There are light moments of humour as well, in particular, I love the quote where the author is interviewing a friend from the Seventies and asked him "When did you first take drugs ?", and the reply was "When you gave me some !". Classic ! Because this is really an academic piece of work it isn't cheap, and if you buy it through the Publisher it will cost you £40. However, if you email Andrew on a8drewson@googlemail.com, I'm sure he can come to some arrangement with you that will be a little bit less.
  15. Without having heard the version Andy played, it would almost certainly be the longer version that Kent released on one of their early albums.
  16. The poll asks two questions though. I've been into Northern since about 1973, but have not been on the scene for that continuous period, only 25 years on the scene.
  17. All I can say is my wife's name on SS is Soul Widow
  18. Always played as the last record at Rugby Soul Club allnighters, and the floor is still full with the lights on !
  19. Bad knees stop me dancing. I still occasionally dance but suffer for it the next day. In fact people take photos when I dance because it is so occasionally.
  20. Ahh yes, but how many, as soon as they read the post immediately sang the chorus in their mind.......I know I did !
  21. Magnetics - I Have A Girl The ultimate male group vocal record for me
