Worst Ever Motown?
Driving along yesterday listening to the radio and it was played, "Indiana Wants Me" R Dean Taylor. Not the worst but terrible. Paul

Master 4 @ Tayster
Wasn't this covered up by Levine as the "Turkish Delights"? can't remember the c/u title though. Paul

What Song First Gotcha?
Although I had a preference for Motown and soul at the time I hadn't had the hair standing up on the back of the neck moment until I heard "Two Can Have A Party" Marvin & Tammi, off the Motown Disco Classics Vol 2(it was 1971 or 72 and I was about 14). Not the most soulful of tracks, but just the whole feeling of the sound did it for me and just stunned me. Paul

Sidra's Theme - Shock Horror
I thought it might be that, it's just that I hadn't heard it before. Cheers Paul

Instrumentals
And I did hear it played at Wigan by Russ a couple of times in about 74/75. I always loved Sax On The Track by Mike & Ike. Haven't heard it for years though. Personally I love instrumentals as part of the scene. But I don't go out anymore so I am in it for the rose tinted nostalgia. Although it was my era, I certainly hated all the synthesizer instrumentals done by S Soussan. Paul

Sidra's Theme - Shock Horror
Last week on Heartbeat they had a new state of the art police car on trial that was a D reg (1966 ish) and then played an early 70s track. I notice these things but it doesn't bother me anymore. I believe it is basically a period drama set in the "sixties" for entertainment value only, not for analysis by us anoraks. They also played the "Spy". Who was the "Hide & Seek" by? Paul

What Makes Soul, Soul?
I noticed when listening to the CD This is Northern Soul Vol 1(the motown one). Two tracks one after the other, to me, show a black pop singer and a soul singer. Diana Ross Singing "He's All I've Got" Followed by Gladys Knight singing "Just Walk In My Shoes". Ms Ross sings along with the tune, and our Gladys's voice makes the tune/melody. I realise that they are not difinative examples of the genres but just hearing them one after the other sort of explained it to me. Paul

Soul Dancing
Back around 78 while I was in the Navy, I did both cartilages in my knees doing a backdrop(I think to "There Was A Time") The Navy doctor prodded around and asked "how did you do this, football?". I replied "No, Dancing". He didn't ask any more questions, but there was a strange look on his face. Paul

Election Soul
Isn't it about time that there was less politics in the rare soul scene Apart from that, one that isn't Northern, but US 60 garage is "Liar Liar" by the Castaways. Sums them all up really

Record Breakers
Whatever it is, Levine either played it or made it. Or it was Russ's uncle.

Records That Need Reviving
Because I don't get around anymore, I don't know if various sounds have been resurected at some stage. Anyway one track I have always loved and didn't get the recognition it deserved(IMHO), probably because it isn't rare enough, is; "Be's That Way Sometime" Scientists Of Soul on Kashe. Just a good catchy song. Paul

Label Designs.which Record /release Has The Most
What worries me is when playing any of these out, which would be regarded as the original to allow only the real deal to be played. I for one would not like to pay to attend any soul do and find the DJ playing the non first pressing plant copy. Paul

Records That Shouldnt Have Been Played 1st Time
I agree Ady. But what I was trying to say was that it was that the small amount of pop stuff was accepted. It was just that mid term at Wigan they took the p*ss a lot. I think many people around the scene from its start to the present day are a bit selective about what is pop crap and what is acceptable. Personally(no pun), I loved Paul Anka "Can't Help Loving You" but hated Johnny Vanelli. And to this day there are loads of "white" records being accepted on the scene. The same can be said about '70s sounds also. Paul

Records That Shouldnt Have Been Played 1st Time
There is always a lot of conflict about what should or shouldn't be played on the scene particularly when it comes to "pop" stompers etc. In the early days of the Wheel etc there was allsorts played i.e Round Robin "Kick That Little Foot Sally Anne" . Generally the scene revolved around predominently "black" records of a soul or R&B style coupled with "white" sounds withe the appropriate beat or sound and all the punters was happy(I think). Then Dave Godin (RIP) with all the good intentions went to have a look at "The Northern Soul Scene". From this day on the it was labelled a Soul scene and the arguments started. Please discuss Paul PS I am predominantly a soul fan, but also there are many white pop tracks that have been played that I personally love. And others I hate!

Records That Shouldnt Have Been Played 1st Time
On the original thread of what should never have been played, anyone remember "Toody" by Angels one Five Paul

Inter City Soul Club
I think the idea was to unite the UK soul scene, both Northern and "southern". I don't think we ever go to the stage of Russ Winstanley sharing a stage with Chris Hill. Weren't the first Yate nights under the Banner of the Intercity Soul Club? I remember them putting on an allnighter in Plymouth while I was under basic Naval Training, and I think I stayed awake allnight in sympathy.!! Paul

Records That Could Never Make A Comeback
Remember "Manys The Slip" from the Mecca/Burnley Alldayers when Levine came back from the states with it claiming it was the vocal to Bok To Bach! Paul

Records That Could Never Make A Comeback
Adding to the original thread though. How about Wombat "I'm Gettin' On Life" I remember Chris Bloor from St Helens apparently having one of the only copies at the time. Wouldn't play that again!

Records That Could Never Make A Comeback
At the weekend I bought a cut price CD that had a couple of tracks that I didn't have(on CD). The main reason for buying it was, yes, you got it The Cherry People . and the CD was only £2.99. Also another version of the Sapphires Slow Fizz with alternative lyrics, what's the story? I hadn't heard it before. Paul
