  1. Quite agree on The Bronzetttes track, I was originally attracted to "Beggin'" as it has the same backing track as Jerry O's "Karate Boogaloo" if I remember rightly. As far discovering b sides for me it was the awesome b side to Shawn Robinson's "My dear heart" which is called "Find love right now" on Minit, to me years no decades to track down but now is one my most treasured 45's. Regards Alan
  2. Hi Gray, Will email you mate, not been too good of late, will fill you in by email. How are you mate, Rosie ok ? have you seen Mark and Jackie and are they ok, was hoping to bump into you at Prestatyn but couldn't find you but even if you know that someone is there is still like trying to find a needle in a haystack. Regards Alan
  3. Well the Hitsville team have really excelled this time with Issue 3 of "There's that beat" this has to be the premier Rare Soul Fanzine around now, it really has gone from strength to strength with outstanding contributions this time from Eddie with Pied Piper Productions which really taught me some stuff I wasn't aware of, Fergies article on Jimmy Wisner we owe so much to this guy as his contribution to our scene is immense, brilliant article on Motown pinks series by Barry, Jason's Steel City Soul which again informed of sp much stuff I didn't know about, Rob's article on the great Emanuel Laskey which goes without saying is up to Rob's usual great standard and I felt had a real personal feel about if you understand what I mean and finally Dave's article on the books that are written about our great music, I am currently working on an article for a future edition but I have my work cut out to maintain this standard but I will try, roll on issue 4. If anyone wants copies of the mag I hold copies of all issues here in North Wales but I do get to as many venues as I can, they are £5 each plus p+p but it really is better if you subscibe to the mag, for subscription details go to the website www.theresthatbeat.com otherwise contact me on rictic123inst@btinternet.com . regards Alan
  4. Hi Ady, I seemed to remember that Paris on Doc or 4 J was infact Ernie Lucas "Love thief" on Okeh, can't verify though just recall coming across the info in the past. Regards Alan
  5. Hi Rod, I have quite alot of the French Motown EP's but I assume you mean copies that are for sale, well I know for certain that I have spare copies of the following:- TMEF 545 - The Four Tops - Bernadette / Brenda / I got a feeling / Then. TMEF 551 - The Four Tops - 7 Rooms of gloom / Darling I hum our song / I'll turn to stone / Is there anything I can do. They won't be mint but they are excellent. I'm almost certain that I also have a spare copy of:- TMEF 536 - The Supremes - You keep me hangin' on / Remove this doubt / You can't hurry love / Put yourself in my place. If you want me to I will double check over the weekend on the above and also see if there are any more. Regards Alan

With reference to these Motown Band Tracks, I can't add anymore info to the Soul Brothers track "All the time" except for the fact that they were bootlegged on the Bari label but I can shed some light on a couple of the others mentioned. I was fortunate about 15 years ago to come across some genuine Motown Acetates which I still own to this day and quite a few of them have gone on to be as popular as some of the released records. Amongst these acetates are 2 of the tracks being discussed. The Frances Nero instrumental to "Keep on lovin' me"being refered to is in fact a track credited to The Marvelettes called "I've been loving you" this is on a Jobete Music Corporation Acetate 10", # JD327, track number 3272-07, this was recorded on 21st September 1965, Frances Nero was released in November 1966, I have never heard a vocal of The Marvelettes but it appears there was one written over a year before Frances Nero. The other track mentioned was "True fine boy" as credited to Sandra Edwards, this was recorded on 26th October 1065 on again a Jobete Music Corporation Acetate 10", #JD337, track number 3280-07 again a vocal has as far as I'm aware not yet surfaced. Sandra was in the group The Elgins who recorded many fine sides for Motown's VIP subsidiary she also recorded as Sandra Mallett fronting The Vandellas on "Camel Walk". I have quite a few more of these acetates which include "Try love just one more time" which I think is by Norma Jenkins or so Sidney Barnes seemed to think when I asked him about it, this is of course the original take of the track that was eventually cut by The Sparkles on Old Town, "That's a funny way" by The Velvelettes, "Lonely Boy" by Shorty Long same track as Eric Mercury and Brenda Holloway but again just the band track, and my favourite "Where are you" by Ivy Hunter. Regards Alan
  8. Here are some of my favourite B sides. enjoy The Four Tops - Where did you go - Tamla Motown - (B side to Ask the lonely). The Isley Brothers - Who could ever doubt my love - Tamla Motown - (B side to Take some time out for love). Marie Knight - A little too lonely - Musicor (B side to You lie so well). Patti & The Emblems - My hearts so full of you - Kapp (B side to I'm gonna love you a long long time). Shawh Robinson - Find love right now - Minit (B side to My dear heart). Regards Alan

I would have thought one of the top UK rarities would be:- Al Kent - You got to pay the price - Uk Mojo Demo or issue. or maybe The Volumes - I just can't help myself - Uk Pama (not sure this exists though). Another strange one is Marv Johnson - "Why do you want to let me go" - Tamla Motown TMG 525 on Red & White DJ copy, probably doesn't exist. I also agree with Pete, the Billy Harner instrumental "What about the music" on Kama Sutra is a tough one. Regards Alan
  10. Hi Jo, I seem to remember Pep saying that Brice Coefield "Ain't that right" on Omen was first played at The Catacombes in Wolverhampton probably around 1971 by Pep himself. Regards Alan

  14. Hi Roger, Glad your enjoying the CD, The Marvin & Kim track is a bit good isn't it, infact the whole album is superb. I'm sure yours will be great when I get round to listening to it in the this rather large pile of CD's. Regards Alan
  15. Sorry Crumb I misread the 1st posting, I'm not aware of "my love is gone" having any other title. Regards Alan
  16. I have the Golden Sound release and that also has "No other love" on the b side. Regards Alan
  17. I finally got round to posting all the CD's today, sorry for being a little bit late but I had problems with my ever reliable Philips CD burner, I will have to replace it soon as it isn't as reliable as it once was but it doesn't owe me anything as I have burnt many thousands of cd's over the years. Anyway I hope you all enjoy my selections as much as I have enjoyed all the ones I have received upto now. Like quite a few people have mentioned already I think the best way of appreciating these CD's is to play them through completely once and then maybe a second time before moving onto the next one, I know this means it will take along time before you have played them all but hey there's no time limit is there !. The first cd I played was Eddie Hubbard's and I have swapped with Eddie before and his standard is always extremely high, stand out tracks on this compilation were Chris Bartley, Freddie Hughes, Trade Martin, Eloise Laws, Ronn Matlock and the awesome Gene Chandler (Eddie who is that singing with him ?????). Great stuff Eddie. The Second CD was Ockers Cd, again the standard was awesome, the tracks that made me rreach for the track listing and almost drivivg into the hedge were Dana Valery WOW, Erasmus Hall, Gladys Knight (glad you included a track by Gladys that I didn't know as I love her), Rita Graham (isn't there another version of this ???), and finally the record of the cd's up to now the incredible Lou Bond "Why our eyes must be turned backwards" I need more info on this please , is it rare ? what label is it on ?, how much will I have to pay ? and has anyone got one for sale ?. The third Cd I listened too was compiled by Neil Forbes, again absolutely top standard, absolutely fulll of midtempo stuff, particularly liked the tracks by Philly Cream, The Exportations, Pacific Gs & Electric, George McCrae, William Bell and the brilliant but unusual Boris Gardiner. Here's hoping the rest are as good, I will feedback as I listen to them. Great idea Chris and what a great way to hear new tracks. Regards Alan
  18. Wrong site Keith, shouldn't this be on Crimewatch UK site. Regards Alan
  19. Hi Macca, Sorry to hear that you appear to have been mislead, I think I can safefully say that most of us have been there in this same situation especially in cases where the boot is so much alike the original, I suppose we can all learn from this so although I don't expect you to name the dealer this early in the negotiations maybe if you tell us the record and the differences between your copy and the boot wecan make sure we don't make a similar mistake. Always bear in mind the dealer may not know that it was a bootleg. Regards Alan
  20. JUNIOR WALKER - WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO WIN YOUR LOVE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l5guL-ye8Vw Absolutely stunning Pete, thanks for tracking this one down. Regards Alan

  23. Hi keith, I don't think it would have been Siz in 1969 / 1970. I had some great nights at Belle Vue but more around 1972 on wards, We use to go to the Zoo Be Doo every Thursday, the Zoo Be Do being a room off the main Elizabethan Ballroom I also had the great honour of DJ'ing at the all nighter in the main Elizabethen Ballroom in around 1976/77, I followed Pat Brady at 4am in the morning which I just about managed to do, Pat had some top sounds then. Unfortunately I can't remember the DJ's in the Zoo Be Doo. Jimmy Saville DJ'd at Belle Vue at The Top Ten Club wasn't him was it? Regards Alan
  24. No offence taken Pete, I wasn't quoting John's value as a value I agreed with I was just trying to separate which one I thought it was in the long list of copies of this record. regards Alan
  25. Hi, As I mentioned in a earlier post I believe my copy to be one of the very few original Orange copies which John values at £750+, heres is a scan of it and see what you think, am I right ????????????? or is it another one for the sales box ? Regards Alan
