  1. I think I first heard it around 1974, but I might be confusing it with the Bobby Wells version which certainly was played around then.
  2. Someone asked me this morning if there are many soul records recorded in 3/4 or Waltz time. Can anyone think of any? I'm scratchin' me head here to think of one! Col
  3. Nice one Rob! Still gets to me. Actually bought that on Neptune from the Joke Shop in New Street Worcester! Must have been '72. Nice to see you on Soul Source. Colin
  4. That's beautifully said John, can I please echo that? Colin
  5. Presenter. Was a tad too rebellious for management!!!! How about you? Col
  6. Just wondering if any kind soul has an mp3 they could post of Brenda Holloway's Woman's world? Please! Be really grateful. I've never heard it, but my girlfriend -soul fan of six months(!) is raving on it. Where she heard it, goodness knows! Thanks in advance Colin
  7. Wyvern, Beacon, Sunshine, BBC H & W. These days freelance voiceover doing commercials, ID's etc.
  8. Lost a few, broke a few. Left a mint English demo of Carl Douglas Something For Nothing on a bar at a Stoke all-dayer. Turned my back for a second and it had gone. Sat on a copy of Bobby Williams on Sureshot and cracked it. Left a Polydor copy of Inspirations Touch Me Hold Me in the car and came back to find it fried in the sun. Dropped a lovely 78 copy of Jimmy McCracklin's The Walk. It didn't survive. Worst of all, lent a pile of good English stuff to a so called mate around 1974. Still waiting for their return - especially the chess demo of the Tiffanies. I could go on. Hate this thread!!!
  9. Well said Glynn. I've been in radio since 1982 - your comments are very sound.
  10. It certainly was around at the same time - 1969 - so no surprise if it's on the People album. It was a Columbia single too. A really big record around 1973/4. Great to hear it again!
  11. Every one a corker! Thanks! C
  12. Paul/Mathew I reckon you're very welcome on here mate - keep on posting! C
  13. STEMMONS = AWESOME POP !
  14. If you want to design your own radio station, I really like www.pandora.com This really is a very clever program that streams music in great quality based on a musicology. Just type in a track you like and pandora will play more just like it. It's a great deal more clever than it appears. Give it a try - it's free.
  15. I sincerely wish you luck though with the format and the station - especially with Andy Wint on board, who is one of the most experienced and original thinkers left in British radio. But this ain't a good way to win friends Kev. Someone misunderstood the concept. So what? Never got hold of the wrong end of the stick yourself? Doesn't make JohnM an idiot. Lighten up baby!
  16. Followed this thread thinking it might have been about the legendary two tone pinks!
  17. I heard some story about Soussan picking up the master tapes from Randy Wood's garage. What kind of deal was done? Heaven only knows.
  18. Don't see that as peevish at all. I agree. My feeling is that it's probably not aimed at "us". The thinking might be, well if Northern Souls was being made right now, with today's technology and recording techniques, then this is one way it might sound. I just think it's interesting, but I do believe it was done with some passion and respect.
  19. For goodness sake get him to post them I don't believe our music to be akin to holy relics and therefore sacred and untouchable. It's just music. Good, bad, indifferent... sometimes sublime. I still think the Casino thing is interesting even if the song itself is messy. Col
  20. Not sure it would be helpful to request real names. You could just make one up couldn't you? The internet is plagued by this sort of thing. Some call it free speech, but when that defames someone else, then it's hard to defend. It's an irritation but perhaps a small price to pay for most when weighed against the value of the net as a whole. Col
  21. Agree it's not a great song - but what a good groove! I'm just talking about it from a musical perspective - not suggesting it might fly on the scene. Though who knows? And it's obviously done with some love. There's a sample from the Gallop too isn't there? Col
  22. Been on and off the Forum lately so I'm not sure if this has been covered. Apologies if it has. I stumbled on a very interesting piece of work from an outfir calling themselves Casino. They're making what they call modern northern soul. You can hear a track on line. I think it's great. Hit this link CASINO What do you think Colin
  23. I've got a good story for you if you'd like to hear of a haul of British demo's. Drop me a note if you want. Colin
  24. Was Jeff King really sent down for it? Never knew that! I do recall how the price of the originals would plummet after a soul sounds release. Funny to think they are collectable now. I can understand it, though they were depised by all serious collectors at the time. How much did they sell for back in the day? 70 pence or a quid?
  25. Good effort on the quiz - something for everyone there! Good fun Thanks. Colin
