  1. HI ALL ... GOING OF THREAD ABIT, When I here the epilogue of NEVS story, the Vicar and all that, I was in HM HOTEL STAFFORD, when I was informed of his passing by a guest from the EAST MIDLANDS (BOWLER? I THINK) we were both angry about what was inevitable, NEV was 100% genuine but people took advantage of him in Life & Death RIP NEV always in my thoughts, DAVE KILLWORTH
  2. HI ALL,, Couple of bits , but thanks Mick tale of his cracked record "it happens", MICK SMITH Copy from his collection, took him ages to find, and if memory serves me it was his last major want, he did not have a demo until the mid 8ts in fact I got is issue, this will tell you how rare it is,at one time Mick had the lot, on UK I remember when he started to complete the PYE LABEL, if it was on a PYE he had to have it, where did he get his DEMOS from in 74? you never saw them, but he had them, BILLY HARNER INST purchased from a deaf dumb & blind boy who sold records of his trolley in the East End? it makes me laugh, Strange him giving that copy up,i lent him my JON ANDREWS ISSUE, 6 MONTHS LATE HE GAVE ME A MINT DEMO , ANYWAY HE IS A GOOD MENTOR TO HAVE ALSO A MATE, Talking of mates who no their records Pete's comments are always relevant his dedication and knowledge on UK SOUL WAS PU OUT AS A MAGAZINE, BEATIN RYTHEM, which is worth picking all copies, i think he did 13,14 issues,. If Mick H still has a DEMO& ROY G HAS ONE that 3 in WOLVES DAVE K

  5. HI ALL... BEWARE OF GANGSTERS?? Did you no? back in 1970, the JUDGE who was sitting at ST Albums Quarter Sessions (Crown Court) in the Trail case PORTAFIELD, LAWRANCE Mc KELYCOT V HULL in a RAZOR FIGHT,,,,I was called as a POLICE WITTNESS? but the TRAIL JUDGE did not like me for some reason, and remarked "I want you to get out of my court, I have met you before..you are a GANGSTER! Sir now remove yourself from this court", so my question to CHRIS is As a GANGSTER, I would not back away, after all whats the point of having a reputation, and then bottle out, go for it, call me if you need a personal GANGSTER INPUT* AS ALWAYS DAVE K *COSTS START AT £500
  6. HI ALL....The LARRY SANTOS is far rarer today compared to when it 1st got played, it's been many years ago that I owned a copy (still have my bootleg! copy) there is one reason for this, and is quite simple, the record was release in the UK on PHILIPS LABEL, always a good way to identify US RECORDS is by finding a UK Cover by some obscure artist, that the record company saw potential in, Our man this time was such a man who checked in and then checked out, with 2 recordings on UK PHILIPS, His cover version of LARRY SANTOS CLASSIC is rather good, and has become one of the very hard UK items that many collectors want, and pay lots of money for, how rare is rare, well PETE SMITH can answer that one, but it is much harder to get than the rare issue on PHILIPS, Not sure how many copies exist in Wolverhampton but can't be more than 2, that includes my copy, which is the best version of the 2? it has to be based on how popular LARRY SANTOS was must be his version, THE STRANGE WORLD OF NS? MY COPY DAVE K
  7. HU ALL EMI HAD A FEW TITLES CALLED BIG 16 & GECCA HAD "THE WORLD OF....." YOU REALLY HAVE TO GET THE HMV COPY "BIG 16" WITH BOTH YOU HAVE 32 MIND BLOWING CHICARGO SOUL, LIST TO BOTH LP'S & THEN PLAY A TOP MODERN SOUL SOUND, AND YOU WILL REALISE THAT 60T SOUL IS SOUL? DAVE K
  8. PETE IRISH I Think not, well not pure Irish no trace of a collone? apart from red hair, pure Irish woman have a large forehead, you can spot them easy once you no my tip? as a half Irish/Basque Romany, this input is 100% non racist & is factual DAVE
  9. HI ALL PETE I HOPE THEY DONT DO WET DREAM! IN SAYING THAT IT WAS WELL PLAYED THE UKE WAS MENTOISH ROCK STEADY & WELL TIMED, Q. DO YOU THINK THEY LIVE IN JAMAICA AS I CAN'T THINK OF HOW THEY GOT TO NO THIS CLASSIC? NICE ONE

  12. HI ALL As TED STATES THE DEMAND WAS HIGH. White label copies are very rare but in this case no where near the price that 1st $TATESIDE demo is worth, is it me that has seen more LONDON DEMOS than $TATESIDE RED& WHITE DEMOS? MICK SMITH has a G&W DEMO on his list I sold a copy for £5 at WIGAN DAVE
  13. HI ALL HI PETE My copy on FABULUS was a freebie from SANCTURY, However not a DEMO, It is rare £60 I would say but you should get more, standard copy sells £30 to £50 in LONDON, The sound quality is great, far better than the DOCTOR BIRD RELEASE? DAVE

HI ALL Back in the 8ts I got a few stock copies from Mick Smith and that was never booted, so it's the one to get, the trouble with white label DEMOS, when booted they cause confusion, what I call the "ROSEMARY"? EFFECT, following that classic being booted the price for it halved over night! DAVE K
  17. HI ALL Trying to put a price on this record in 2013 is far from easy, PETES remark about £150 tops I think was about right 18 Months ago, however as I have started to collect US 45 AGAIN! MINT RIC-TIC 120 ARE RARE, & should sell way above £200, the price for some strange reason, is there must be a huge pile of them! after all it's RIC-TIC i DON'T NO THE STORY OF WHY RIC-TIC 120 IS SO RARE,,ANYONE? I'm alright with my DEMO from LIL DAVE WELDING, But that's my good fortune?? DAVE K
  18. HI ALL ...The pros & cons of this classic song, TIMI YURO cut is a superb version, and a HOLY GRAIL, TO FIND A COPY AT A OXFAM SHOP OR CAR BOOT ain't gonna happen, every body who knows very little will be aware of it? the record for me, comes from the tail end of must have UK 45s along with RAY MERREL, TONY MIDDLETON, PARADOX, SUE LYN, & THE RARE UK MGMs, value £750.... PAT LEWIS on the other hand was a JOE BOY DEMO given away with a CD, HOWEVER the positive side is this PAT LEWIS is a classic Detroit SOUL SINGER, she is very affay with the northern scene and had the comfort of playing TIMI YUROS Record, thus ensuring she got it right, well in my opinion she got 100% right and making it the best version, so that's what I think and I own them both, DAVE K
  19. AGREED TOP QUALITY AND I DO LOVE THE PATRICE HOLLOWAY, CANT AFFORD IT??

  21. HI Yes it's a cracker, sounds like a 6ts PYE RECORD, However the drummer sounds like a 16 year old on a OLYMPIC PEARL KIT the beat is fine, but to tinny and not in the groove, maybe of a reapeted loop tape? mmmm i'll give it 5
  22. HI NOT WHAT YOU ASKED FOR? HOWEVER I HAVE UK UNDERWORLD 12" &7" NOT FOR SALE BUT TRADE FOR NORTHERN ONLY! DAVE K
  23. HI ALL PETE You are right, but unless it was recorded in the UK or made in JA for the UK when the master stamper was sent over, I have assumed that every thing on a UK LABEL from 1958 to 1974 is a DUB RECORDING from DISC 45, DAVE K
  24. HI ALL The best sound reproduction is of 4 track tape or multi track studio recordings, hours of fun if you are lucky to have the opportunity, vinyl reproduction standards were tech more advanced than the equipment used to play vinyl on, STEREO was always seen as a superior way to listen to recordings in the mid 6ts, as such it was very much in vogue, post Sgt Pepper, Pet Sounds, Axis bold as love, which gave birth to UK Progressive Blues, by 1969 most LPs were STERO with 2 or 3 tracks of special effex to turn you on when smoking dope, MONO was doomed? However not to for SOUND SYSTEM OPERATORS, DJ & PA COMPANYS. who indeprom each other, seemed to discover a new approach to sound in the following way:~- SPEAKERS In the late 50s in JAMAICA the home of the SOUND SYSTEM, They were trying to capture the best bass sound, to do this bigger is best, speaker cabinets when I first went to a ALL-NIGHT BLUES, HAD 28" RCA SPEAKERS & LINED INSIDE WITH CURTAINS, damping down, In 1968 a friend of mine, was working with ROGER CHAPMAN & FAMILY, a LEICTER BAND, Who were the 1st group in the world to use fold-back as a separate sound system PA, the band also introduced the BASS BIN, A BASS BIN was exactly what the SOUND MAN wanted, & very simple to make (speaker tech, has always been superior than amplification) the US comp JBL made the best speakers for BASS BINS, Instead of mounting the speaker facing out, they turned it around & made the sound funnel, this advancement was already known to prisoners around the world who had a transistor radio, by putting a empty tin can on the speaker, you have a bass bin (try it) AMPS PA, SOUND MEN & DJ use heavy duty CROWN AMP 500watt valves, for the solid sound and a mixer ROSE MORRIS was a pioneer of the sound desk which worked on equalising each input, he built a 12 channel desk which went very quickly to 32 then 64, this enabled the sound of a live band to place parts of the sound in any area of the room, (i can remember micing a drum kit with 8 mice's even the drummers fart could be miked up) Just a thought, in 1965 the loudest group in the world were the WHO, LIVE they were kicking out 200 watts! in 66 they bought half of the biggest sound system in the world it was 1k, and belonged to " FRANK SINATRA, HE DID IT HIS WAY" TURNTABLE. IN 1971 my turntables were GARRARD SP25MK2, GREAT DECKS, But as much as I have a great fondness for them, they were a poor relation to what we now consider to be the finest deck ever, apart from some modification, the TECHNICS 1210 is the #1 worldwide. This little write up i hope explains that sound mono through mixing can give you a better output than any stereo recording, professionals will always go for MONO  DAVE K
  25. HI ALL JOE TEX did some excellent songs in the 6s/7s, however although 3 made it big on the NORTHERN SOUL SCENE! "SHOW ME" "YOU BETTER BELIEVE ME" & "UNDER YOUR POWER LOVE" also "CLOSE YOUR DOOOR" orig MOD/SOHO/ RICKY TIC PLAY,(I Don't think it got played much at the WHEEL) However SYSLJFM a perfect CLUB SOUL SOUND, ALL OVER, the Dial label & JOE TEX are plentiful, & for our Pittsburg brother "better believe it" was big at Wigan first then "show me" the 2 records seemed to go in and out of favour for 4 years "show me" was pressed for no apparent reason! apart from greed, and 95% of the KIDS did not bat an eyelid at the CASINO, Although I was always geared up! the group of promoters DJs took as many liberties with the Kid's, their is a real horrible side to the scene, that existed back then as they made a manufactured scene to print money, however we all moved on, until now, and now it's happening again all the f**kin bootlegs lining those who care little about you or me, all these bootlegs play on week or those who are on the scene cuz it's good, not real understanding or educated into the RARE SOUL SCENE,, KEEP THE VENUES FREE OF BOOTLEGS IN 2013, DAVE K
