HI ALL..IAN How apt that this label got releases in JA, it's a homage to the country who gave us the origanal DJ VERSION RAPP & RYAM, The great SUGAR HILL SOUNDS of HIP HOP owe a lot to the TOASTER & BOASTERS that we have followed from our youth, great scansm DAVE
  2. HI ALL And a good question from "a fine young man" Mr Andrews and an excellent much needed resource, when I do a posting I try to give as much info artist title label my rating & value, it is this last point that I also get confused about, as rarity is not an indicator to vale or current cost, both TED & PETE Have pulled me up,(see GLEN MILLER), PETE SMITH had a good system when he wrote the BEATIN RYTHM UK 45 PRICE GUIDE, BASICALY he put a value next to a letter from the alphabet, so:- A=£5-10, B=£10-15, C=£15-20, D=£20-30 & so on it's so easy to follow and it's all inclusive,, the fact a record is in the A or B group means it is relatively cheap or inexpensive, & definitely does not stand for crap, if this was applied to US records, BILLIE DAVIS STANKY would have been in the A column, & the VONETTES in the H GROUP, as a collective no way can an agreed price range zoom from A to J?? Also not relevant is the meaningless quote "a record value is down to the individual, and what they are prepared to pay"? That's asking to mugged, if you are unaware of the guesstimate value, with titters in the background saying he's been STANKIED, The market is always changing at the moment it's a buyers market, I suppose if the DJ/RECORD DEALER wants to get the money in, they will have to get back to a position of selling rare records such as NORTHERN SOUL WHAT SAYS YOU YOUNG SIR?
  3. HI TONY Yes it was the very same track from the LP, however they trimmed the LP down to 8", I think Russ played it, the LP come out in 71, BAND OF GOLD Inst was good, TEARS OF A CLOWN still sounds good, and could make a good mix with the SMOKEY 45, As for quality 45s I have "working in a coalmine" 1st class Hammond instrumental, however from all the years trawling obscure LPs KEITH MANSFIELD - BOOGALOO - EPIC 5-10504 B, Is the very best unissued in the UK, This excellent instrumental won't disappoint, scan only sorry it's on youtube DAVE

Dave, can't see any link at all to BENELUX collectors, what makes you think so? HI You got me! I read it in some mag that I have got, as a answer to the same question? back then (8ts) there were several things put out, that also appealed to the UK scene, the mag valued it at £20? it's 100% not a UK record or US, 2 GOOD SIDES THOUGH DAVE
  5. HI ALL HOW RIGHT YOU ARE STEVE, However Paul Anka surprised me in it's comeback, the record for me was quite hard to get on a UK DEMO in the 8ts as there are really not that many about hence the cost,...as for MY GUY an original MOD anthem, R&W DEMOS are also hard to find under £100, DAVE

HI ALL Why this BOOTLEG has Made in Great Britain, was because it was aimed at the BENELUX Brothers & Sisters, which makes it more valuble? great records only worth £10, tops DAVE
  7. HI MARTYN The LP was on the STUDIO 2 LABEL(EMI) this had the "BAND OF GOLD"inst, the LP that has DANCING IN THE STREET + TEARS OF A CLOWN INST, WAS ON CONTOUR called the DETROIT SOUND, SORRY POOR SCAN/ These LPS were popular late 72 up until WIGAN OPENED? DAVE
  8. HI ALL The record you are thinking about was on the STUDIO2 LP, other instrumentals come from a CONTOR LP, BAND OF GOLD & TEARS OF A CLOWN, However these were played in 73/4... dancing in the street also come out on HIT US45, MIKE MANSFIELD did record it also, most instrumentals were found on LP's DAVE
  9. HI ALL For info the PLAYERS RECORDS were getting spins at the dawn of the rare soul scene, at the TWISTED WHEEL, and "get right" MINIT 32928 NEARLY GOT A RELEASE ON PRESIDANT, NO SOUND CLIP FOR THIS TUNE? BUT IT IS A CHEAP BUY AT £15 DAVE
  10. :hatsoff2:HI ALL Heres one to make you think! why do I buy expensive records? when I ain't even got a copy of AL GREEN??? MAYBE it's to NORTHERN for to-days "young old boys"? however this forgotton oldie, deserves to get regulare spins, me thinks/ BELL 45 258, AL GREEN - " LET ME HELP YOU" - My Rating is 6****** Value = cheap as chips, but worth a COD more, ENJOY DAVE K
  11. HI ALL As we approach retirement? and if that applies to yourself, you probably got you first RARE SOUL RECORDS on a BOOTLEG? FOR MANY IT WAS Jeff Kings SOUL SOUNDS that started it all, However I think I have got evidence, that proves that there were 2 releases before the SOUL SOUNDS Label, Mentioned before on SOULSOURCE, My Blank copy of CHUBBY CHEKERS DISCOTEQUE B/W TAMS HEY GIRL DON'T BOTHER ME, Which is 2nd release from the source as Roy Gelder has the 1st release, For many years, I have been stumped by not finding out the info, but I believe progress has been made in the last 7 days? As the 45 had a BLANK LABEL with graffiti over it, I decided to remove it all together? in doing so, and to much surprise, I found another label; This discovery has led me to believe that the person behind the release had established links with the MUSIC INDUSTRYM in the NORTH WEST, a MAN UNITED FAN? & a patron of the TWISTED WHEEL CLUB? What ever and who ever was involved, the 45 has a link back to PYE RECORDS, as the revers label was from a small run of PYE (Piccadilly) records, which is valued at £50, Please take a look at the scan of the uncovered MAN UNITED DISC UNITED UNITED , What ever the the history reveals, this is a valuable record in many ways? all info is relevant, any thing will do, DAVE TAMS
  12. HI ALL #6 IN MY NORTHERN SOUL TIPTOP 300, End of 72 got a few spins went big n 73 & was joined by other pink DECCA 45's Johnny Caswell, Lada Edmond Jr + others, the song is a story simmular to te SNAKE,AL WILSON, PLAYED AT A TIME WHEN EVERY RECOR WAS A CLASSIC? DAVE

  14. HI ALL With the sad news of the passing of Andy Williams, this old MOD tune, is my way of sating RIP ANDY, https://youtu.be/L4eZJ1OtdlY
  15. HI ALL.....I have yet to meet a UK SOUL COLLECTOR, who has not tampered with the Platters, and destroyed RAREand OBSCURE 45s that MATTER! Having read the post (I Lie) Here are some of my tips, in what I call:- DAVES RULES KO! a) No matter what you think, NEVER attempt restoration under the influance of CHEMICALS? This includes Roll Up's, someone somwhere has a minty SCOTTS ON SWINGERS RIC-TIC, with 1 blemish, caused by OLD H ash, 1 speck. and you have a white spot?...(the Cherry Blossom, must have worn away by now?) b) In a simmular vain, SEEING IS BELIEVING, Evidance is needed, ask yourself "am I qualified" the differance between a car mechanic, and engineer is the mechanic can repair a car, the engineer can design a car and make the tools to make it. c) Replacing a centre in a 45, is realy easy, However STOP & THINK, Ask yourselfm as a kid, did you make AIRFIX KITS, if YES did you get glue on the cockpit? if YES, don't bother, if you never made a ARFIX KIT, When you gad a TOMMY did you use a hankey? or tell your Old Dear it was AIRFIX GLUE? You get my jiz.....st. d) The proper way is the only way, First, you need to find a correct centre from the same month and year for the label, soak the centre for 36 hours, and carfully remove both side of lable, finger nails are best. use a needle file to flatern the area on your disc, where the prong sits, while doing this check that the prongs on the centre are long anough to fit 1/64" to long on each is correct, when fitting the centre, use PVA GLUE, NOTHING ELSE!, LEAVE FOR 6 HOURS, Next step is to check the trueness of the record, sometimes to ensure truenes, a jig can easy be made for this purpos, e) WHEN YOU ARE SATISFIED, EITHER USE THE LABEL THAT YOU REMOVED, You should easy make a neat job, if you do the pronds first, again a thin coat of PVA is all that is needed, remove the atr bubles with a rolling action. dabbing will caurse a crease mark? f)Practice first, g) It is against my ethos to sell records that have been restored, without telling the buyer, if this stroke is pulled keep the 45, but get your money back, NEXT WEEK DAVE RULES:- You will need 2 pkt of MORNING GLORY SEEDS,(available from B&Q) and 1 large Nutmeg...... DAVE
  16. HI ALL This record from my BOX has taken me 40 years+, and now thanks to MJ RECORDS, IT'S where it belongs! with me. Quite simply one of the best SOUL RECORDS EVER, BUT VERY VERY RARE AS A UK DEMO, ENJOY,
  17. Hi A real proper Northern Soul List, however the wrong week for me, sadley?
  18. Hi about 10 years ago, was the right time to find much of your wants, since then world Music, libary & soundtracks have gone through the roof especially KPM 45s. price are high, I have a couple of decent places you can try (if they still exist) also quite a few bits have been reissued, my advice chevk first?
  19. HI Not quite, the same problem, but I could never leave a bargain, and when it comes to RARE UK SOUL, the never rule is a bit like an addiction, it is definitely obsessive, For example car boot sales charity shops and so on, if i come across say 3 SUE RECORDS OR 3 ACTION 45'S I Find it impossible to walk away, and G&W R&W DEMOS, I never leave, the pros & cons are, you start to collect the complete label output, but how many copies of "oh how happy" or "night train" do you need? or third rate uptempo POP 45's on DEMO LABELS,?? When I go to a RECORD FAIR, this mind set disappears, and a normalisation returns, one benefit I love from collecting is finding those records that we see every where, the big selling records of the 7T's mistra demo, Guy Darrell SANTA PONSA DEMO, Over the years I have got most on DEMO, & I can assure you all, that some are very hard to find, so I have to have them , This is a problem as I don't sell records any more??/ DAVE
  20. WOW WHAT A GREAT TUNE THAT IS POSTED? ALSO TO BE ADDED ARE THE JOB RACKERS ONE STOPS, IF YOU ARE IN LUCK, ALSO AT THE VIP RECORD FAIR WOLVERHAMPTON Are you going you? to fair you sen DAVE
  21. HI ALL ... WIGAN 4Th ANAVERSARY SEPTEMBER 77, i CAN'T SAY THAT i HAVE YOU MEMORY RECAL LADS? However I was there I am sure Mick Ady & Pete And, was also there, I remember Pep haggling me over the price of records with his haggling smirk face inclusive of smile, every record had one price 50p if you said yes the game went on lowering as he was doing me a favour, trying to think were or what speaker you would tape from as there always tape records on the stage and young kids running up checking the bloody things, if on the right side that's were a lot of BEDS & CAMBS, TENDED TO BE? the Wolves gangster were always patrolling the BOGS and were around my age, so as you have the tape and it's from the 4Th, 100%, you must be right? However I thought it was GINGER who was meant to have played it 1st? so if PEP played it, does that mean the GINGER PART IS B****KS?? as he also is on tape, did John Vincent play it at SOULFUL SAMANTHA SHEFIELD SUMMER SEVENTY SEVEN S**T DAVE 69

  25. HI PETE For the record you are probably right maybe £100 tops, MJ Records had £50 in 87, with the comments CLASSIC OLDIE (V-Rare Yellow DEMO). my point of view on the price of records, as you no, Is that if you took 5 people and said "I want you to find me a copy of XXXXXXXXX 45 in EX-MINT for me to play this SATURDAY Night?" and this may be achieved by some people on SOULSOURCE, as they are in the no, However the public would struggle, if you follow my drift, As I am a fool I have every issue of RC-Magazine, why I really don't no, as it was this publication that, in my opinion made a president of turning set sale items, and allowing the orid OFFERS, To be used, then come EBay with Auctions, this allowed us to get hold of records OK, it also took away a chunk of my hobby so to speak, looking in charity & junk shops, also car boots, However as I have done this in the past, and like yourself looked through 100,000+ 45s I have not seen this record at all, to conclude I have a liberty , Demo if you no someone, as the LONDON means more to myself, Our PEP use to play the liberty demo, he has his fans? that would like it? it's in excellent condition if not MICK will be at the next VIP RECORD FAIR with ROY GELDER yourself Rob Pheasant, & myself, what is the date for this meet up PETE? IT'S WORK DAVE
