  1. HI ALL What in your opinion, would be included in the best SOUL LP's to make a all-time TOP 20 CHART? I WOULD PUT JACKIE LEE "the DUCH" LONDON LP, In the top 5, Only rule is no CD COMPILATIONS or POST 1982 STUFF of VA?? DAVE
  2. HI Thanks for the reply. the RARE STAMPS would be in there as would Jackie Lees "the DUCK" LP LONDON. HOWEVER a chart featuring hand picked records by well known RARE SOUL Collectors does not count in my book, I think that would be a separate chart and an almost impossible task, as hundreds of rare records have been made available since 1982, maybe the RCA "JUMPING AT THE GO GO" & the 3 GRAPVINE LP's may have a justified reason? but any thing that come out on CD does not count in what I had In mind? let's see as I will start a thread on the top 20 LP's DAVE
  3. HI ALL...Just a thought, when PETE SMITH, started this thread, did anyone on SOULSOURCE realise that JACKIES "PUT YOUR TEARS AWAY" was such a popular LP among rare soul collectors, as it is a well known fact that most collectors of soul prefer to own 45's, So does this thread make JACKIES LP, The #1 LP to own if there was a top 20 of must own LP's DAVE
  4. HI ALL SOMETIMES NO MATTER HOW MANY RECORDS YOU OWN, YOU FINALLY GET ONE THAT FOR WHATEVER THE REASON, YOU NEVER GOT YO OWN? This is the case with this classic example of RARE NORTHERN SOUL45, Yes I can now play this Gem at any time of the day, OUT OF MY BOX, Jo-ANN COURCY - I GOT THE POWER - TWIRL 2026 - DEMO (no issue?) Rated **********10 stars Value £??? (cost me £250) This is one off the top sounds to own, no matter how many years it takes DAVE https://youtu.be/dCA0vaevKNk
  5. HI What a great record this is at one time ong ago I had this, infact I had every record that IAN put on the exsellant LP on PYE, IF IT DOES NOT SHIFT? PM ME DAVE
  6. HI ALL But I think I was one of the first if not the first to own this classic? I found it in MOORS LUTON early 73, on BLACK VERVE, at the time it was unknown, and to my LUGS, it was as good as the GLORIES & SWEET THINGS RECORDS? However at the time MICK SMITH gave it the thumbs down "All records soundood on Green & Clears" I still have a yellow DEMO, I still rate it, very much so, but it would seem that MICK'S knowledge was right, it did get played at PETERBORGH for a few weeks in 75 still it's a good record and cheap DAVE
  7. Glen Miller - Where Is The Love 1967 UK 45 DOCTOR BIRD Item number:350586044224 Price:£500.00 HI ALL This is a nice copy at £500 buy it now, this is one of the best copys I have seen, and cheap enough to make £100 profit on dave
  8. HI ALL LIKE BOTH VERSIONS, but like all of you prefer the remake, in truth about how many copies exist in the UK? well I have only seen 1, ever, but a guess would be 10 x 1 sided and that would leave about 5 in the STATES DAVE
  9. HI Tia if there is anything that I can help you with, as I have been around for 45 years on the SOUL SCENE, PLE ASE DO NOT HESSATATE, My fee is well worth the in-depth knowledge I can offer you DAVE
  10. HI ALL Just been playing some of my favourite UK STUFF, A few years ago this record was HOT, & is still very hard to get as a 45 or on the early pink ISLAND in ex condition, the 45 has a different cut to the one on the LP, It's down to personal taste, to say whats the best cut, However the LP will cost you a min of £150 in mint condition, the 45 AIRBORN NPB 0011 - £125+ mint. The record is the reply to BUD HARPERS Mr SOUL on UK VOCALION, I HAVE PUT MY 45 UP, BUT THE VERSION PLATED IS FROM THE LP. In my opinion this is a must have record for UK COLECTORS and is very tare in ex condition DAVE
  11. HI TREV Did I say there was a connection? no I didn't diddle eye! however I can make a connexion for you, both JOKER & SOS were aimed at the scooter scene, which in the early mid 8T's filled the void, on the rare soul scene, the scooterists and their scene baffled me? as they took some good ideas put them together, and them made a pigs ear out of it for example the EATHIOPIONS THE WHIP DOCTOR BIRD (CLASSIC) WAS PLAYED NEXT TO BUSTER BLOOD VESALS CAN CAN , THEY RODE PX & GP SCOOTERS WHY? When a series 3 TV175 was the best scooter ever made, 14 hole DM'S AND GREEN HELICOPTER JACKETS?/ I wont go on , but the record labels had some link with a top WIGAN DEALER from the BOURNMOUTH AREA? AND THE LABELS CATERD FOR THEM IN QUESTION??? SO THERE YOU ARE A NICE CONECTION, SAYS I DAVE
  12. HI DID YOU GET A COPY? AS I HAVE A ISSUE I N EXCONDITION (BLACK RCA) DAVE.
  13. HI ALL,,,,LOOKING THROUGH SOME BOXES IN THE LOFT, LAST WEEK. I COME ACCROS THIS UK RAREITY. And I mean rare, it's a very decent version of "call on me" by JIMMY LLOYD - PHILIPS 326568 BF-EX+ If you collect UK soul, there is a good chance that you have not got this record, and this will be the first opportunity, if you have something to trade on a UK Label PM will sell for £100, worth much more :rofl:this is not Jimmy Cliff ,
  14. HI PETE THERE ARE SOME NICE RECORDS ON THIS LIST, AND AS YOU SAY, SOME SELLING FOR BIG MONEY, SHAME THERE ARE NO SOUND BITES? ALSO YOU MAY GET A GOOD TRADE FROM A SPECIALIST SHOP, GOOD LUCK,
  15. HI ALL The SOS LABEL followed on from the Joker label 1984/5 ,with the fantastic Marsha Gee from NEW TORK STATE
  16. Hi All I need to find that tape interview, PCRL John Weston or Ted M, must remember it. I can't even remember the geezers name who did the show every Sunday? a real nice bloke, anyway whatever Luther Ingram was the 1st release 100% defo! DAVE
  17. HI Mick Smith has one in his sales box, great record, rare on UK
  18. HI You spotted this DM from me? the fact that the 1st copy to be released was Luther Ingram on SMASH & WAS NOT A HIT, outside of the state, in my opinion both versions are classic, the B side to JAMOS copy "hip mama" is a classic that never gets a spin???? DAVE
  19. HI ALL Don't no how I stumbled over this thread, but it was good to read through it again, and evokes many memories, going back to 68 there was always a barrow selling of vinyl, and only a very small number of soul collectors back then had the knowledge to no what they were looking at back then, I can remember a Barrow in Brewer St (what a stupid thing to say? there were barrows of every street that linked up with Oxford St) that was the place that you could get the best brogues from, "the County of Squares" the proper home of ROYALS, Not cheap to buy, QUINCIES was also a shop for to get the right look, to be a proper show off in the NORTH BANK or CHICKEN RUN? Many of the records that I saw on barrows in SOHO back in 71 meant nothing to me, yet history of the RARE SOUL SCENE shows us, that with knowledge and 2 years older, it was from of the Barrows of SOHO & CHEAPO CHEAPO in Berwick St,for top soul collector Mick Smith to find play and take to the early Northern soul DJ's in Wolves Stoke & Blackpool, meanwhile I waited until I read a copy of BLUES & SOUL to get my info, make a list. and buy it cheap at CONTEMPOS in Hannaway St. As CHEAPOS was one of Mick places I never got to meet Ady until a year later at WIGAN, or TONY SHAM BUT TRUE, As I was well into REGGAE in the late 6t's how MICK & CLIVE got into Rare soul is another story??? DAVE
  20. HI ALL.. HOW & WHY This fact only come to lite to us all many years after the Jamo Thomas Hit, amazes me and I only found out as I was listening to the SOUL SHOW on PCRL RADIO (Not sure if it was part of the POPCORN WYLIE INTERVIEW? DAVE
  21. HI ALL....Only a very small number of artist's in the history of the RARE/NORTHERN SOUL LIST OF THOUSOUNDS OF 45'S This man was the #1 of them all. in 1972 when those who saw him, set the reception of how to meet & greet a true superstar, the man was worshiped by all, his name was.... MAJOR LANCE RIP. The record I have picked is in many ways his best? it was his 1st on OKeh records written by another iconic artist CURTIS MAYFIELD, This was not a follow up to another release this is the MAJOR singing at his very best, and every record that followed had this as a bench mark In 1072 when MAJORS UK COLUMBIA RECORDS were being unearthed, "ain't no soul" & "Investigate", My mentor/sage returned from a trip to the USA, This was the 1st time I had heard this sound, it is still one of MICKS ALL TIME FAVOURATES, HOPE YOU LIKE IT? I DEDICATE THIS TO THE BEDFORD BOYS PAST & PRESENT{- OKeh RECORDS 4-7168 - MAJOR LANCE - DELILAH, RATED**********10 STARS, 0 VALUE £50-£100 ISSUE, DEMO (PETE FROM BEDFORD TOP COLLECTOR OF OKeh WOULD NO?) PLEASE ENJOY DAVE https://youtu.be/OYk072XIXac
  22. HI ALL Personally if you have a rare record and get someone to write on it is sinful, however a personal message and signed on the sleeve, mind you a producer name on a 45, like the Larry Wright. PEP (I think)? had a LONDON DEMO - DOBIE GREY - "THE IN-CROWD". STAMPED RSG, Rediffusion London, produced READY STEADY GO. WERE WELL KNOWN FOR THEIR RECORD LIBARY? I think PEPS record above most others with RSG on the label, must be the most desirable copy of that classic,??
  23. HI ALL... Funny label some nice records, however I'm so old school I can't get the point of this label' except to make money, they have spent a lot of time with there labeled, it turns out that if you have blank label copies they are very limited, only 10 copies of 3 tunes on this list SC-126, SC-127, & SC-132, I THINK THIS INFOCOME FROM PAT BRADY? ALSO WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT OTHERS EXIST? DAVE
  24. GREAT STUFF I WOULD LIKE A COPY PLEASE? IAN I WILL HAVE THE AUTOGRAPH,?? "The last thing that went through MARC BOLANS mind was a tree" NOTHING LIKE AN OLD JOKE
  25. HI ALL While you wait for the next PRICE GUIDE, & as always there will be an explanation from the author, about cost condition & current market? all this is aimed at those people who are anal retentive, unlike myself who is oral, if you are a lover of music and collect vinyl, any condition will do for me, as I have my own price guide from years of collecting. a record mat be classed as rare by myself, but worthless by others In 1967 the MARINE OFFENCES ACT, made it a crime to broadcast radio signals to Great Britain from 3 miles offshore to what ever they made it 200 miles I think. I was 15 and love the Pirate stations, RADIO CAROLINE WAS THE 1st and the last of the Pirates, anyway sometimes the provenance of collectibles makes them even special to own, I was lucky to get a few records from RADIO CAROLINE and they on there own way like hens teeth. at 20p each what would you value them at, I have classed them as DEMOS as there was none for these 2 labels at that time, so are these just damaged cheapo record? or the CROWN JEWLS, AND HAVE YOU GOT THE RARE RECORDS THAT CANT BE PRICED? DAVE SSSSHH FROM THE BEEB?
