Soulsource Record Of The Day, (Summer Holidays)Closed Don't Use Post Closed
HI ALL Just been playing some of my favourite UK STUFF, A few years ago this record was HOT, & is still very hard to get as a 45 or on the early pink ISLAND in ex condition, the 45 has a different cut to the one on the LP, It's down to personal taste, to say whats the best cut, However the LP will cost you a min of £150 in mint condition, the 45 AIRBORN NPB 0011 - £125+ mint. The record is the reply to BUD HARPERS Mr SOUL on UK VOCALION, I HAVE PUT MY 45 UP, BUT THE VERSION PLATED IS FROM THE LP. In my opinion this is a must have record for UK COLECTORS and is very tare in ex condition DAVE

More help wanted, need bootleg/reissue label info
HI TREV Did I say there was a connection? no I didn't diddle eye! however I can make a connexion for you, both JOKER & SOS were aimed at the scooter scene, which in the early mid 8T's filled the void, on the rare soul scene, the scooterists and their scene baffled me? as they took some good ideas put them together, and them made a pigs ear out of it for example the EATHIOPIONS THE WHIP DOCTOR BIRD (CLASSIC) WAS PLAYED NEXT TO BUSTER BLOOD VESALS CAN CAN , THEY RODE PX & GP SCOOTERS WHY? When a series 3 TV175 was the best scooter ever made, 14 hole DM'S AND GREEN HELICOPTER JACKETS?/ I wont go on , but the record labels had some link with a top WIGAN DEALER from the BOURNMOUTH AREA? AND THE LABELS CATERD FOR THEM IN QUESTION??? SO THERE YOU ARE A NICE CONECTION, SAYS I DAVE

Cheapo's Record Stall In Soho
HI ALL Don't no how I stumbled over this thread, but it was good to read through it again, and evokes many memories, going back to 68 there was always a barrow selling of vinyl, and only a very small number of soul collectors back then had the knowledge to no what they were looking at back then, I can remember a Barrow in Brewer St (what a stupid thing to say? there were barrows of every street that linked up with Oxford St) that was the place that you could get the best brogues from, "the County of Squares" the proper home of ROYALS, Not cheap to buy, QUINCIES was also a shop for to get the right look, to be a proper show off in the NORTH BANK or CHICKEN RUN? Many of the records that I saw on barrows in SOHO back in 71 meant nothing to me, yet history of the RARE SOUL SCENE shows us, that with knowledge and 2 years older, it was from of the Barrows of SOHO & CHEAPO CHEAPO in Berwick St,for top soul collector Mick Smith to find play and take to the early Northern soul DJ's in Wolves Stoke & Blackpool, meanwhile I waited until I read a copy of BLUES & SOUL to get my info, make a list. and buy it cheap at CONTEMPOS in Hannaway St. As CHEAPOS was one of Mick places I never got to meet Ady until a year later at WIGAN, or TONY SHAM BUT TRUE, As I was well into REGGAE in the late 6t's how MICK & CLIVE got into Rare soul is another story??? HI ALL....Only a very small number of artist's in the history of the RARE/NORTHERN SOUL LIST OF THOUSOUNDS OF 45'S This man was the #1 of them all. in 1972 when those who saw him, set the reception of how to meet & greet a true superstar, the man was worshiped by all, his name was.... MAJOR LANCE RIP. The record I have picked is in many ways his best? it was his 1st on OKeh records written by another iconic artist CURTIS MAYFIELD, This was not a follow up to another release this is the MAJOR singing at his very best, and every record that followed had this as a bench mark In 1072 when MAJORS UK COLUMBIA RECORDS were being unearthed, "ain't no soul" & "Investigate", My mentor/sage returned from a trip to the USA, This was the 1st time I had heard this sound, it is still one of MICKS ALL TIME FAVOURATES, HOPE YOU LIKE IT? I DEDICATE THIS TO THE BEDFORD BOYS PAST & PRESENT{- OKeh RECORDS 4-7168 - MAJOR LANCE - DELILAH, RATED**********10 STARS, 0 VALUE £50-£100 ISSUE, DEMO (PETE FROM BEDFORD TOP COLLECTOR OF OKeh WOULD NO?) PLEASE ENJOY DAVE https://youtu.be/OYk072XIXac

Some Records That Will Never Be Listed In A Price Guide?
HI ALL Personally if you have a rare record and get someone to write on it is sinful, however a personal message and signed on the sleeve, mind you a producer name on a 45, like the Larry Wright. PEP (I think)? had a LONDON DEMO - DOBIE GREY - "THE IN-CROWD". STAMPED RSG, Rediffusion London, produced READY STEADY GO. WERE WELL KNOWN FOR THEIR RECORD LIBARY? I think PEPS record above most others with RSG on the label, must be the most desirable copy of that classic,??

Soul City Records (The Second Batch)
HI ALL... Funny label some nice records, however I'm so old school I can't get the point of this label' except to make money, they have spent a lot of time with there labeled, it turns out that if you have blank label copies they are very limited, only 10 copies of 3 tunes on this list SC-126, SC-127, & SC-132, I THINK THIS INFOCOME FROM PAT BRADY? ALSO WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT OTHERS EXIST? DAVE

Tainted Love Instrumental! Where Did This Come From?

Some Records That Will Never Be Listed In A Price Guide?
HI ALL While you wait for the next PRICE GUIDE, & as always there will be an explanation from the author, about cost condition & current market? all this is aimed at those people who are anal retentive, unlike myself who is oral, if you are a lover of music and collect vinyl, any condition will do for me, as I have my own price guide from years of collecting. a record mat be classed as rare by myself, but worthless by others In 1967 the MARINE OFFENCES ACT, made it a crime to broadcast radio signals to Great Britain from 3 miles offshore to what ever they made it 200 miles I think. I was 15 and love the Pirate stations, RADIO CAROLINE WAS THE 1st and the last of the Pirates, anyway sometimes the provenance of collectibles makes them even special to own, I was lucky to get a few records from RADIO CAROLINE and they on there own way like hens teeth. at 20p each what would you value them at, I have classed them as DEMOS as there was none for these 2 labels at that time, so are these just damaged cheapo record? or the CROWN JEWLS, AND HAVE YOU GOT THE RARE RECORDS THAT CANT BE PRICED? DAVE SSSSHH FROM THE BEEB?

John Manships Price Guide
HI ALL Pete's point is relevant & meaningful. but sadly from a generation that knowledge stood for "the GREY MATTER BETWEEN the LUG HOLES" not the tip of your index finger, that's for picking your nose (and skilled love making?) It's a shame, but we live in a age where the word skill does not mean qualified, a good example is when i left school, like thousands of boys aged 15 years, you signed tour apprentice indenture papers, which were cut in half 1 part you kept the other the employer kept until you apprenticeship finished 5 years later you were then classed as a professional, most of South Staffs & Warwickshire (now the West Midlands) work force, were highly skilled workers, the shame is even if you wanted to become a patten maker the skills to teach you are gone for ever, and it is for this reason I believe that younger people on today's soul scene miss out, when putting a collection together. Today in seconds I can remember the 1st time I saw certain records, for example in 1972 I was at a ALLDAYER in STAFFORDS TOP of the WORLD, there was a bloke with his record box, and he was surrounded by 5 others all trying to look at the record he was holding, sadly I can't remember his name, but he was wearing a LEVI Jacket with a TORCH badge above the pocket SKINNER JEANS & Royals, the record was a black Columbia UK label of Wayne Gibson "under my thumb", the whole ambiance of this scene, I have witnessed thousands of times since then, but the vibe I got from this made me want to be just like him, I even got a torch badge and a pair of Skinners, as you all no, there are many of you who have had this experience, it was very real you could touch the record and feel the vibes from it, my 1st copy I got from Mick not long after as a R&W DEMO, Back then record collections were classified by venues or DJs, long gone now, as is the feeling of finding a copy of Loraine Silver in a OXFAM SHOP, THIS IS AS A RESULT OF THE INEVITABLE CHANGES THAT NEW TECH HAS GIVEN US???? Jamaican Soul Labels
HI ALL...Just remembered this....about 10 years ago,?? my GOD! it's actually 16 years, I went to BRUM, to meet up with Jim Sills, ASHA.G "the ROCK STEADY DADDY" from HACKNEY, & DAVE BARKER (SHOCKS ALLMIGHTY) The purpose of the meet was to make arrangements with UB40 in their local pub in DIGBETH, After that we went to see LINKSY at his base, Keith as I have stated built my sound system, he also built ASHER G's SS, which has a much more power output than mine, while at KEITHS LAS Base, we were joined by Andrew from Notts owner of TRADITION, While I was rooting through Andrews van which had 5000 Jamaican 45's in the back, when I found a box of SOUL 45's all on JA labels, many familiar US labels. this is where I found the Beg Jay McNeely on UK SUE, UK stamper but JA pressed with the Black & red Label instead of Yellow & Black, I was told that it was a FEDDY SPECIAL, it seems to me that there must be some kind of semi legit thing about what gets pressed up, so nothing would surprise me, Any thing could turn up DAVE

HI ALL...This is new to me! got it of RANKING JOHNNY BOY, Although this was not played at the WHEEL, It has got that sound that kicked of the soul scene. however it reminds me very much of a record that I think ALAN DAY played at the junction Crewe in 72 by Leslie Gore - "that's what boys are for" UK MERCURY, NEVER PLAYED SINCE? This is a DYNOVOICE DV213 - JESICA JAMES & THE OUTLAWS - "GIVE HER UP BABY c/w "COME CLOSER". 2 RECOMENDED SIDES, Rated **** Value £40-£60 but would easy fetch more if played, it's also a lot rarer than her big CASINO HIT -"WE WILL BE MAKING OUT" HOPE YOU CAN ENJOY THIS ONE DAVE https://youtu.be/gGeL8xdBGMc

Who Discoverd This Sound?
HI ALL...When I joined SOULSOURCE, THERE WAS A THREAD ABOUT WHO DISCOVERD THE RECORDS WE LOVE, At the time, I found it to be a good read, but since then, there has been nothing similar to replace it? Since it stopped, there are many of you who have an interest in who was the lucky 1st person, to find this obscure record? Last Saturday I went to the EXCELLANT STABLES EVENT Wolverhampton, and took a few records with me, a well known DJ/ COLLECTOR, had a look through, and we talked about this record on SATRIL, when out of the blue he told me who discovered the record! what he told me was totally wrong, although I did not pull him up on that fact, however it gives me a reason to try and restart this thread, In this case I can say the DJ named did not discover it as I gave him the copy? like all the stuff that come out on the PRESEDENT LABLES that have been played originally come from 2 LONDON COLLECTERS, who bought all the good stock from the company, and then got all the other stuff, this record was given to me by JIM SILES well known TOP reggae collector, shortly after MICK SMITH introduced him to me in the mid 8t's and his knowledge on reggae is on par with Micks knowledge on rare soul, over the years people like Jim have discovered many a record, yet don't get recognition, the copy in the picture is a nice rare DEMO not from Jim but from have a guess? Jamaican Soul Labels
HI KRIS.....I LIKE IT...I LIKE IT SOUNDS GOOD TO ME, Not what I intended at all, but a good idea!, although my offer stands, your idea could be achieved much more quicker & has no real cost, since the threads relating to the JA music scene stopped on soul source, and the fact that I found each thread of interest, thanks to Pete Smith's original concept of them, and the success of the SOULSOURCE RECORD CLUB RECORD OF THE DAY, Plus the contributors of topics relating to the SOUL of JAMAICA, this could just work however in the here & now and being realistic, although I have the equipment. I still can't get my head around the subject of uploading records from my personal collection, as this is fundamental for me, even more so in a challenge as any one can play music they have not got, that would be like taking tunes from a CD, Personal vinyl only, It's a start. Jamaican Soul Labels
HI ALL ESPECIALLY TOU GIRLS. This thread has become to personal, in a nice way, so loosen up, having been on the Jamaican scene since I was 15, & was there at the dawn of REGGAE, I love hearing other people's knowledge about the facts, as you all have knowledge about what you think REGGAE is because you have purchased loads of records, is as stupid as a white man talking like a black man? (Rodigan)? is every thing I detest, as Pete is aware, I have strong views about the term SKINHEAD REGGAE, SO TO HELP YOU ALL OUT, AND BRING YOU CLOSER TO-GETHER, & IN-KEEPING WITH JAMAICAN SOUND SYSTOU TADDITION, I AM WILLING TO CHALANGE ANY OR ALL OF YOU TO A PROPER CLASH, AND TO MAKE IT FAIR YOU CAN PLAY SKA, ROCK STEADY, REGGAE, JUMP UP, DUB. SKANK, ROOTS, LOVERS, TENG, RUB A DUB, MENTO, R&B, SOUL, ANYTHING, ALSO AS A OWNER OF A LINKS SOUND SYSTOM MADE BY THE LATE KEITH AKA LINKSY OF BRUM (SAXON) YOU CAN USE IT OR BRING YOUR OWN +3 CREW MEMBERS, SO LET'S GET IT ON, ANY TAKERS KNCKOUT CHALLANGE DAVE

HI ALL WITH 20 MINUTES TO GO TILL MIDNIGHT, I'm just starting to play the records I got last night, I have chosen this one, as a record that I find impossible to not buy, as a 12 year old, and in the Care symptom of that ere, I got to see my family twice in that year (64) my sister was a 17 year MOD, and very much involved in what was in & what was out. she was miss HARTFORDSHIRE, done the Battle of Hastings & BRIGHTON, This record is a typical record that she would dance to, R&B at it's best, but with a FUNK, on the 1's that was mustard & capitalized upon by JAMES BROWN, RATHER THAN PUT THE RECORD ON, AS WE KNOW IT, THIS CUT IS HOW IT SHOULD BE PLAYED?? PYE INTERNATIONAL - 7N-25278 - KOLETTES - WHOSE THAT GUY?. Rated ***** Value DEMO £30 ISSUE £15 Re-Issue £10, IT'S A MOD MOD WORLD! AT IT'S VERY BEST ENJOY DAVE https://youtu.be/Nnma9TRmnu4
