Hi I Think the same situation applies to the Isley Bros & Jnr Walker Demos, in the 7ts the G&W were easy to find? but nowadays its not so easy, of course the original Demos are the best, that's not the issue, its locating the Reissues that is hard, and I must point out I have never thrown money at dealers to get records, that goes against the grain, as I could of just given Mick Smith a list of records years ago! and to me that is not record collecting? it buying records at expensive Prices, and any one with the cash can do that? so I am missing TMG 555 G&W & Red & White Road Runner? DAVE(58 To-Day)KIL
  2. Yes that's right, it was a test press, I found them with many others on Stevenage Indoor Market, the Friendly People was also the white Demo, The issues seemed a little bit harder to locate. Maybe it was again down to what part of the country you lived in as in 70/1 I found a small warehouse crammed full of Motown and other imports, at the same time Letchworth Co-oP had 2 racks full of early UK 500 TMGs and EMI LPs such as the Impressions Big 16, & loads of Action records In Stevens record shop, yes Letchworth Hitchin & Stevenage had thousands of records,However it was not until I got to Know Mick Smith & John Wilkinson (NOTTS) that I found out what to look for??? 3. Hi in 1971/2 I think most people who found this great version of Sam Cooks orig, for 1 minute thought I got the BIG one. The other easy find was the Joneses "Sugar Pie Guy" both deserve a spin. DAVE KIL
  4. I can remember Malcolm, From Memory Lane (John & malcolm) melting about a 1000 UK 6ts 45s because they were only VG+ DAVE K

Skimming Records. The subject has always been a in the know "Trade Secret" but we all know someone who knows a SKIMMER in the same way you all know someone who sells DRUGS?...There are many different ways to brighten up a Record Especially if you are selling records, I have often seen adverts stating NICE CLEAN COPY (Skimmed) and this is common practice these days. What is Skimming? Well if you can imagine, every time you play a record or even take it out of its cover, you are Skimming That's why adverts states Mint- don't mean any thing these days, A typical Skimming MC is a turntable with a fast spinning motor, I have seen washing machine motors used? a fixed bar across the deck and another bar sponge with lever parallel to the turntable so you can attach different cleaning agents? and with practice you will learn just how much pressure to apply, Professional Skimming MC are more like milling machines and can be adjusted to 1000 of a inch. I use whiteboard conditioner and renovator Liter fluid Meths Pledge Bleach Milton is the kindest But what ever you do take care as a knacked record is a cough away, so never SKIMM if speeding or P**sed DAVE KIL

This Tune was massive with the kids(under 16s) in 1970 and still sounds good to-day, However the excellant "Bush Doctor" is the one to get and I am sure it was repressed as a 45, defenatly on the great Skinhead REVOLT LP that is a must buy as very cheap way to own rare tunes on vinal recomended. 21. Hi the Joe Higgs is a sleeper "not as rare as Glen Miller" but that does not detract from people buying it My copy went in early 8ts to a Doctor bird compleatist money to good £10 for a old JA disk?? people Even then had know real collecting interest then and those who did landed up with great collections for little cash, I personally use to pick up reggae from junk shops and charity shops way into the 9ts just to move them on. just took out those records I had got originally back in the days of 68-71 I never saw the demand coming and then every dealer wanted reggae and the Blue Beat Label? over 2/3Rd's are crap but they would buy them, how things have changed? However last Saturday at the Wolves record fair I got TR-7801 MILLIE "HONEY HUSH, PAMA 800 SID & JOE "STANDING" (MASSIVE RECORD IN 1970), AND FROM THE GREAT Alvin RAGLIN GG LABEL 1973 2 SIDER- TOMMY McCOOK "BAD COW SKANK b/w DRUMMER ROACH Gladstone Anderson ALL EX0 £10 I SAY THATS A BARAN ESPECIALY THE GG AS THAT IS A GREAT CLASH RECORD NOT THE GROUP THE CLASH FOR THE UNEDUCATED?
