It should only have been £5-£6! If producing a run of 300 (or even less!), 45s costs no more than £2.50 per copy (tops!) to manufacture. That's quite a good profit if selling them for £6. Within no other genre of music does recent reissues (legal or not) cost as much as on the northern soul scene.

The local release is the most desirable format in my opinion, but in these cases where minor label US releases were picked up by major/bigger labels and released maybe a couple of months after the local release, then I consider both originals. But I think there's a world of difference between the Rosco Robinson example and the Four Voices situation where there is some 25 years between the first and second issues. All in my opinion ofcourse and everyone is entitled to spend their money as they wish etc.

Perhaps should've included an "in my opinion" in my previous post. In my opinion the gold Four Voices 45s shouldn't be considered valuable to someone who collects original 45s because it is NOT the original release.

It is never fair to pay a lot of money for a reissue (legal or not). A reissue is apart from its musical merits practically worthless for someone who collects original records. Why not just have the tunes on a CD and be satisfied with that?
  5. Wow. That's about $50. Why anyone with access to the internet/google/eBay would pay over $15-$20 for a M- US copy of that 45 is beyond me.
  6. Should be "Some Other Guy", I suppose. Superb club soul tune. Should be easy to sell at £30 or more. Have a listen: https://www.soulclub.org/stream/Richie_Barr...e_Other_Guy.ram

Just came to think about a 7" which seems to be very hard to find. Solid Solution's "Think about It Girl" on Silver Spoon. How about it?

Have you heard the original version by The Tempests on Smash (which also has got Hazel Martin on vocals)? That 45 should be £5 or less. Have a listen: https://www.soulclub.org/stream/The_Tempest..._Of_My_Life.ram
  9. Probably just different pressing plants for the red label ones. The brown/gold-ish one has however got a different catalogue number (210) and features an ever so slightly different version of "Don't You Want A Man Like Me" (no synthesizer "strings" during the intro, different vocal take etc.). Plus it has got "Back Up Train" on the flipside, not "Hollywood".
  10. "Invisible Wind" is the same track as recorded (in my opinion far superior and grittier) by Arnie Love & The Loveletts on one of their early 80s 12"s on TAP. Still wouldn't mind a copy of the female version. "Guilty" sounds great as well!
  11. Now that's what I call a "proper" label discography! Lovely.

No. Not in the US at least.
  13. I'm really intrigued by the Flaming Arrow label at the moment so wouldn't mind a complete set of those... Could throw in the complete Crow catalogue as well... Or failing that, why not Charay, another label with a seriously messed up discography that issued loads of good stuff in a variety of genres.

Has anyone got the 45 by The Notations on Sue for sale by any chance? Please PM me if so.
  15. Yes, I'm afraid you probably did. Manship was in my opinion way off mark when suggesting a price of £150 for this 45 in that other thread some days ago. It hardly ever turns up for sale. But oh well, £150 is still good money!
  16. WHAT a tune! Here you go, taken straight from my 12": https://www.shingaling.com/LovemanRonnieSto...uchYouAgain.mp3
  17. Wow, that was fast. Such a bloody superb stomping tune!
  18. I'm with you on that one. They are extremely similar. It wouldn't suprise me if Hall, Oates and those other guys bought every record they could find on labels like M-Pac/One-Derful/Mar-V-Lus and wore them out. Those were pretty big labels back then considering the success of The Five Du-Tones etc. Love most of Hall & Oates pre-1983 stuff. The "Abandoned Luncheonette" LP and the self-titled "silver album" are superb.
  19. Do you mean his REAL surname? It's Sha-Rae on all of his records that I have seen, here are some:
  20. At the end of the following video clip, featuring Detroit band The MC5, the announcer says something along the lines of "we'll be right back with Little Milton Campbell, Billy Sha-Rae, more MC5 and right now... Anne Murray": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N6pfU9wli8g It's from a 60s US TV-show called "The Lively Spot". That footage of Billy Sha-Rae MUST exist somewhere and someone must have this entire episode of "The Lively Spot". Does anyone of you out there with "contacts" in this market/region know anything about this or might be able to track down that footage? Would be nice to watch!
  21. That's ONE HELL of a nice proto-house tune. Have a listen: https://www.soulclub.org/stream/Richie_Have...To_My_Roots.ram
  22. It's on Verve Forecast. Richie Havens - I Can't Make It Anymore / Morning, Morning - VERVE FORECAST 5022
  23. About 8-9 hours left on these auctions now. Thanks for looking!
  24. There you go! A bit over the top if going by what most copies sell for though...
  25. ...as always with Manship "book values", divide by 2 or even 3 and you won't get disappointed when selling.
