WOW! That sure is one hell of a twee version of a tune which otherwise is one of my all-time "black rock'n'roll" faves... Here it is by Bobby Lewis instead: (love the Wanderers tune by the way, great Bert Berns produced Brill Building r&b/pop/early soul hybrid).

Bit of an obscure Motown question here... I have The Magic Disco Machine's instrumental version of Sisters Love "A Better Man Than You" on an italian Tamla Motown 45 from 1975. A storming piece of funky 70s. Was it ever released on a 45 in the US? The only US Magic Disco Machine 45 I know is: Magic Disco Machine - Control Tower / Scratchin' - MOTOWN 1362 The vocal version by Sisters Love was issued on the flipside of "Give Me Your Love" on Mowest.

He's got 4 copies in stock at $150 each.

That's one damn awful sugar-coated vocal delivery on that tune. The backing is nice though, so I guess you could take the instrumental flip and record a decent vocal over it...

It seems to be selling for £150-£200 going by UK lists from the past year or so.

That's one hell of a decently priced monster of a 45. Not easy to find.

Yes, I'm starting to be able to laugh about it. Wasn't exactly "cheap" though. It was Dee Edwards "Oh What A Party" on D-Town. A bit ironic that the record playing on my turntable when the postie turned up was Slim Harpo's "Don't Start Cryin' Now" on Excello. Even more ironic that I just happened to stumble upon this 45 about 20 minutes prior to the end of the auction and there was me thinking "ah, i really like that tune, have wanted to have it for ages, one of the first obscure Detroit tunes i fell in love with, i'll put in a bid and hope i win it"... If I had only logged onto eBay 30 minutes later...

Are you thinking about "Blues In The Night"? An otherwise LP-track which slipped out on a french Stax 4-track 7" EP and also on a regular 2-track french Atlantic 45.

Just had a listen to Moon People and I'm sure you're right. The Luis Aviles is extremely similar though.

Aswith most 70's soul records, this and the one above it ought to be melteddown into something useful. Top stuff. I think I bought both of those records from you from that list and that's probably why I remember it. Love that Danny Hunt 45, recently dug it out again and can't stop playing it.

Seems to be £10-£20 on eBay. Levine did win out in the end on this one it seems... He was selling them for £20 each as new releases a couple of years back as well. Which is a bit much, to put it mildly.
