I think her "Ain't It Funny" on Bigtop is great.
  4. Sebastian replied to a post in a topic in All About the SOUL
"Just Tell Him Jane Said Hello" I suppose. Released on Bigtop 3150 with "What's Wrong With Me" on the flip. Was also issued on UK London (HLX 9759).
  5. Yes. ;-) But seriously, just run the tip of your nail against the edge of the label (closest to the grooves), if you can feel an edge under which you could insert your nail (not that you NEED to do it) then it's styrene. If there's nothing to "grab hold of" then it's vinyl. By the way Mr. Trout, your copy of Philip James is on styrene.
  6. It is styrene if you can peel off the label from the 45 or if the label is painted onto the record (as on Amy, Mala, Bell, Togo 45s etc.). It is vinyl if the label is moulded into the vinyl and you CAN'T peel it off.

Sounds like Johnny Colon on Cotique to me. It's a fantastic tune if so. Love this kind of stuff and couldn't care less whether you could "dance northern" to it or not.
  8. Sebastian replied to a post in a topic in All About the SOUL
That's a fantastic tune! Extremely fast and very funky.
  9. I have no idea... but I'll definitely be playing his "Shhhhhhh (For A Little While)" the next time I DJ at a northern venue. Fantastic tune with James shouting short phrases all over it and what sounds like him kicking the shit out of the Hammond B3 organ... A manic stomper.
  10. Sebastian replied to a post in a topic in All About the SOUL
5 tunes I would champion if I DJed at northern venues more than once a year: Jimmy Ellis - Puttin' It On Your Mind - SALEM Fabulous Dimensions - I Can't Take It, Baby - SAPPHIRE Little Sherman & The Mod Swingers - Price Of Love - SAGPORT and ABC Shirley Wahls - Because I Love You - CALLA Danny White - Natural Soul Brother - SSS Most of them still with decent price tags as well.
  11. GONE NOW
  12. Was just reminded of the fact that I have a spare copy of David Flynn's and Ady Croasdell's old Dexter Manley cover-up: Boston Hitesmen - Can't Let It Ride - MTA w/d Nice atmospheric mid-tempo tune. The vinyl looks a bit scratchy, but plays fine except for a couple of clicks on the intro. No major stuff really, but click HERE to listen to an MP3 recorded directly from the 45. £45 including postage. PayPal payments only, please. Let me know if you're interested (fonzeus@telia.com). Thanks for looking!
  13. ... and if anyone needs a double sided white demo of this, let me know.
  14. "My Hang Up Is You" was issued as a 45 in the US as GSF 6891 with "It's A New Day" on the flip. "I'm Your Pimp" however was never oficially issued on a US GSF 45. The short/long version 45s that are around of "IYP" are all bootlegs.
  15. Sebastian replied to a post in a topic in All About the SOUL
The 45 coming up for sale is very rare these days. I was just feeling a bit grumpy earlier today and I'm sorry if I came across like a brat, it was not my intention.
  16. Sebastian replied to a post in a topic in All About the SOUL
A record can't "get" rare unless you destroy a whole bunch of copies and I doubt that is what have happened. "Hard to find", "very few people willing to sell their copy", "in-demand" etc. is probably more fitting descriptions. But it hasn't become rarer. Now, 200 or so copies of a record in circulation should probably be considered rare by most standards anyway, so I guess I'm just waffling on about nothing here...

"I Believe In Miracles" is one of my all-time fave tunes. Just brilliant. There are usually a couple of copies for sale every month on eBay. The original LP is considerably harder to get ahold of and with a price to reflect that. There are quite convincing bootlegs of the LP available on eBay most of the time though if you just want to hear it.

Their great "Girl In The Hot Pants" on SBI is a blasting messy funk tune. Wouldn't mind a copy myself if anyone is selling
  21. It indeed is a brilliant label and most of the stuff they released is great. That is if you're into that New Orleans kinda groove. The label was run by Marshall Seahorn and Allen Toussaint. There were two label runs. The 450 series was Bell distributed and ran from 1965-1968. The 1000-series was going from the late 60s until the late 70s. 22. £75-£100 is "reasonable" - if not slightly too much - for the Curly Moore 45. Fantastic tune though (and the flip is OK too).
  23. Sebastian replied to a post in a topic in All About the SOUL
Regarding Gordon Keith, indeed it's usually seen listed at £75-£100 these days... but the last couple of copies on eBay has struggled to reach £25-£35.
  24. Derek Martin - Breakaway - ROULETTE Tracey Ullman - Breakaway
  25. I've sold two w/demo copies. The first one at £280 (8 months ago) and the second one at £300 (4 months ago). Have never seen an issue copy of this 45. Actually, if it was issued, being on a major label, there must've been loads of copies pressed, but I guess they all can be located in gospel and rock'n'roll collections these days (the tune is written by Leiber/Stoller, sounds like a "Searchin'" cash-in and all that). By the way, the Voices Inc. LP on Columbia includes a different, less punchy (doesn't have the fuzz guitar) version of "Thinkin'", the rest of the album is gospel.
