  1. Haha! Ofcourse... Might just be coincidence then, have seen it on other 45's though.
  2. I don't know if this is of any help but the numbering on the Johnny Drummer 45 (PS-113183) should probably be read 11/31/83, i.e. mastered/plated on the 31st of November 1983.
  3. Most people buying that Jerms 45 is getting it for the "I'm A Teardrop" side.
  4. Thanks, Mats! I'm glad you enjoyed the mix!

  6. The debut album by swedish group Paola & The Mess Arounds entitled "Silently Whispering I Love U" has just been released! Heavily Motown / northern soul influenced stuff and includes plenty of great uptempo dancers. The album is available for streaming on Spotify and YouTube. It's also released on vinyl LP in an edition of 500 copies. The LP can be ordered from me at the cost of £20 (including worldwide shipping). If interested, PM me for more info. Here are three of the tunes:
  7. Ofcourse the Bear Family reissue is legit. Bear Family is one of, if not the, most prolific and respected reissue label in the entire world.
  8. Here he is rehearsing it prior to the Dig Deeper gig in NYC: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10200136369312786 Some footage from the gig: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10200295371887751
  9. For some reason I can't get the soundfiles on the site to play, but here are direct links to the 30-second soundclips: https://s3.amazonaws.com/Daptone/Previews/THE%20IMPRESSIONS/01%20Rhythm.wav https://s3.amazonaws.com/Daptone/Previews/THE%20IMPRESSIONS/02%20Star%20Bright.wav
  10. I've only skipped through it so far, but that looks awesome! Thanks for flagging it up.
  11. My Obsession With The Preview Label - A Feast Of Teri's It all started back in 2011 I got a phone call from Nige Brown telling me he heard a sound bite on ebay of a record he thought had something special and he would like my opinion on it before he set his bid View full article
  12. Yes that's probably exactly what happened. But the arrow label was introduced in August 1966, so the "Midnight Johnny" arrow-labelled 45 must be from after August 1966. It probably doesn't matter to most people, but I'd rather have the March 1964 release if I could choose.
  13. According to the Seabear Studios website (https://www.seabear.se/Gordy1.html) which is usually pretty thorough in their research: The first 45 that utilised the "arrow" logo was: GORDY 7055 - Temptations - Beauty is Only Skin Deep / You're Not An Ordinary Girl It was released in August 1966. All earlier numbers utilising the "arrow" design are reissues/repressings done after August 1966. Why Liz Lands got reissued? Who knows? Perhaps they just ordered a repress of the wrong cat#?
  14. OK... I guess I'll have to give the actual box-set a go then. It doesn't make any sense though that Spotify requires that the music is in stereo, they don't, there's lots of mono stuff on there. So were two sets of mixes/masters done? Stereo for downloads and mono for the CDs?
  15. It's such a pity and a real lost opportunity to do things properly. Ever since the Arctic/Jamie/Guyden stuff first started to appear on CD it's been the same. I remember buying the "Storm Warning" CD with "all new stereo mixes by Tom Moulton"... I don't care who re-mixed them, they sound like shit compared to the original 45s. For example, listen to "Love Addict" on the box-set, one of the most in-your-face sounding 45s I have in my collection. This new stereo mix makes it sound mellow and disjointed in comparison. It's as if the people doing the re-mixing/mastering have got no idea what the song was originally supposed to sound like. Just becuase you have the multi-track tapes and can make a stereo mix, you don't have to do it.
  16. All tracks recently turned up on Spotify: Sadly most of the tracks are presented in abysmal stereo mixes. Why do a set like this in stereo?
  17. WOW, that is the only word that I can think of right now if I shall begin to describe the soulful weekend experience I just had in Oslo. I'll take it from the beginning. I had been looking forward to my first guest dj spot at the legendary Oslo Sou... View full article
  18. That's what I suspect happened as well. Perhaps Campbell "forgot" who wrote the original music and just went ahead with it... Oh well!
  19. Looks great! By the way, does anyone know what Regional Garland's links were to "It's You For Me" by Carla Whitney? Has got the exact same backing track as 21st Generations "I Need Love", but there is no mention of Garland anywhere on the Carla Whitney 45.
  20. Or try the original version by J.J. Jackson (flipside to "But It's Alright"):
  21. I second all of the comments above. A superb club with an open-minded top notch music policy, run by some of the nicest people I have had the pleasure to meet through the soul scene. I definitely recommend a visit!
  22. It would make a fantastic compilation in my opinion. Might help make the general soul listener a bit more aware of the awesome stuff that Motown put out prior to the big hits as well. Have been thinking of compiling a CD like that for my own listening pleasure and there's plenty more where the list above came from. A few tunes off the top of my head: Earl King - A Man And A Book Contours - Whole Lotta Woman Gino Parks - Fire Gino Parks - For This I Thank You Bob Kayli - Tie Me Tight Lee & The Leopards - Trying To Make It Richard Wylie And "His Band" - Money (That's What I Want) Miracles - If Your Mother Only Knew Temptations - Oh Mother Of Mine
  23. As far as rare jamaican releases are concerned, my vote goes to Blues Busters "Ohh Baby" on BMN which was mentioned earlier in this thread. Definitely deserves further spins.
  24. ...why not just play the original (and in my opinion far superior) version by Bettye Swann?
