  1. Only 2-3 hours to go on these auctions now: https://shop.ebay.com/pushkings/m.html Thanks for looking!
  2. Above is the most likely scenario. Styrene records easily gets damaged when played with a worn stylus (resulting in background hiss or distortion to the high frequencies) or with too much weight or with the anti-skating wrongly adjusted.
  3. Don't know if you're aware of it, but this tune was also released on SAM as by Convertion. It is the exact same verison as on ALMERIA, but the SAM issue has got a great boogie flipside (with Leroy Burgess on vocals) and it's a cheaper record as well. A bunch of 7" copies here: https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=350383298441 Here's "All I Want Is You" taken from the Convertion 7": And here's the flipside:
  4. I haven't heard FORTE 1114, but I just found a scan of it on the net and its label also states "A Marva Whitney Production":
  5. The differences are fairly subtle (the stereo separation is wider on the UK issue for example, and it isn't mastered as "hot" as the US issue), but the Contempo issue (and the "mispressed" Paula reissue) have both got a version which is about 30 seconds longer than the original US Paula issue. Whether one version is better than the other I can't really say. Both versions are fanatstic.
  6. There's now about 2 days left on these auctions.
  7. The UK Contempo release is not the same mix as the original US Paula 45.
  8. Some eBay prices: 2009-08-07 - $1025 2008-09-10 - $643 2008-04-28 - $712

  10. He got a nice result on the Ardonus 12" as well: https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=310237730677 Usually sells for about one tenth of that! But good luck to him, he offers loads of top notch stuff for sale every week.
  11. The artist is Chuck Bridges, not Brooks.
  12. Still seems to be unknown to most people. A hard to find 45 and seldom turns up for sale. Would today easily fetch £150 if sold properly with soundclips etc. eBay results: 2010-05-11 - £129 2007-12-20 - £47 2006-01-29 - £93 2005-04-06 - $159 2005-03-03 - £56 2005-02-17 - $158
  13. I seem to remember the following cropping up on a few playlists as well: Darlene Love - Lord, If You're A Woman - WARNER-SPECTOR Kell Osborne - That's All Right Baby - TREY
  14. But it did come out an official LP in 1976 with the confusing title "Phil Spector Wall of Sound Vol. 6 - Rare Masters 2".
  15. The US release usually sells for $75-$100 on eBay these days. The superior MONO release is much harder to find than the STEREO release though. There goes about 5-10 stereo copies for every mono copy that turns up.
  16. And how about: Checkmates, Ltd - Never Should Have Lied - A&M Slightly odd production, but nice punchy dancer.
  17. "Stumble And Fall" by Darlene Love is fantastic in my opinion, and works in a northern soul context. Hard to find on original 45 though.
  18. Yes, same guy. Klein bought Cameo/Parkway in 1967.
  19. In my experience this is a far rarer 45 than most people realise. Only turns up about once or twice per year on ebay. When I was after it I had to wait more than a year for a copy to turn up for sale.
  20. UK Ace Records and US Collectors Choice are releasing 6 CDs with Cameo/Parkway material this month: https://acerecords.co...59&release=8533 https://acerecords.co...59&release=8526 https://acerecords.co...59&release=8532 https://acerecords.co...59&release=8537 https://acerecords.co...59&release=8536 https://acerecords.co...59&release=8534 According to their site: "Cameo-Parkway material has been unavailable for decades, and collectors have waited impatiently for many years for the hits to make their digital debut. A label overview in 2005 and a few subsequent hits packages skimmed the surface. Out this month on Ace are 10 full albums on five CDs, along with a compilation of vocal group classics. The floodgates are now open, and it's just the tip of the iceberg."

  22. I just noticed that Outta Sight is publishing a book written by Tim Brown on the 18th of October entitled "The Wigan Casino Years: Northern Soul - The Essential Story 1973-81". I haven't seen a mention of it on here yet, but here's the link to the website: http://www.outtasigh...casinoyears.php The preview pages looks promising. below added by site Northern Soul came of age in the mid-seventies. The first significant underground music scene in the UK came to the notice of the media and public alike in 1977, a television documentary endeavoured to capture the spirit of thousands of youngsters dancing all night to obscure, rare American soul records - which even then were up to a dozen years old. The Wigan Casino Years documents, illustrates and analyses the golden age of Northern Soul from 1973 - 1981. Writer Tim Brown experienced those years as a top collector and later became a leading record dealer, label owner and documentor of this, perhaps the most idiosyncratic and secretly influential of musical formats. With high quality graphics and full colour throughout, this book confronts the modern age with the real truth and will fascinate both the devotee and curious at the same time.
  23. Pama was the UK issue. Amy was the original US issue. I suppose Pama licensed it from Amy. Several of the other soul releases on Pama were also sourced from Amy/Mala/Bell distributed stuff.
  24. Some soul faves of mine on Pama: PAMA PM 743 - Bobby Patterson - Don't Be So Mean PAMA PM 746 - Eldridge Holmes - Wait For Me Baby PAMA PM 766 - Soul Partners - Walk On Judge
