  1. Most of the copies that have sold on eBay during the past couple of months have reached $200-$275 (so about £125-£175, I guess).
  2. Hello! I've listed a bunch of records on eBay. There are label/sleeve scans and soundclips to all records. 3. The first time I heard Yvonne Baker's version was about 3 years or so after I had first heard and fallen in love with the Patti Austin version on COLUMBIA. I was at a club and distinctly remember shaking my head thinking "WTF!?" when the Yvonne Baker version came on. It sounded like a novelty tune to my ears. I've since then given it many chances and have even danced to it once or twice but it still leaves me stone cold. I realise that I'm in a huge minority, but I think that the Patti Austin version from 1972 is superb and far preferable.

  6. Not a female version... but there's another decent and gritty, but much more downtempo version by King George as well.

An entire chapter in the superb book "I Hear You Knockin' - The Sound Of New Orleans Rhythm And Blues" (by Jeff Hannusch) is devoted to Ernie K-Doe. About 10 pages or so. Plenty of copies here: https://www.amazon.co.../dp/0961424508/ and here: https://www.amazon.co.../dp/0961424508/ Hannusch's follow-up book "The Soul Of New Orleans" is great as well. I wholeheartedly recommend both books for a good insight into the r&b/soul/funk of New Orleans.
  8. Only 2-3 hours to go on these auctions now: https://shop.ebay.com/pushkings/m.html Thanks for looking!
  9. Above is the most likely scenario. Styrene records easily gets damaged when played with a worn stylus (resulting in background hiss or distortion to the high frequencies) or with too much weight or with the anti-skating wrongly adjusted.
  10. Don't know if you're aware of it, but this tune was also released on SAM as by Convertion. It is the exact same verison as on ALMERIA, but the SAM issue has got a great boogie flipside (with Leroy Burgess on vocals) and it's a cheaper record as well. A bunch of 7" copies here: https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=350383298441 Here's "All I Want Is You" taken from the Convertion 7": And here's the flipside:
  11. I haven't heard FORTE 1114, but I just found a scan of it on the net and its label also states "A Marva Whitney Production":
  12. The differences are fairly subtle (the stereo separation is wider on the UK issue for example, and it isn't mastered as "hot" as the US issue), but the Contempo issue (and the "mispressed" Paula reissue) have both got a version which is about 30 seconds longer than the original US Paula issue. Whether one version is better than the other I can't really say. Both versions are fanatstic.
  13. There's now about 2 days left on these auctions.
  14. The UK Contempo release is not the same mix as the original US Paula 45.

  17. He got a nice result on the Ardonus 12" as well: https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=310237730677 Usually sells for about one tenth of that! But good luck to him, he offers loads of top notch stuff for sale every week.
  18. The artist is Chuck Bridges, not Brooks.
  19. Still seems to be unknown to most people. A hard to find 45 and seldom turns up for sale. Would today easily fetch £150 if sold properly with soundclips etc. eBay results: 2010-05-11 - £129 2007-12-20 - £47 2006-01-29 - £93 2005-04-06 - $159 2005-03-03 - £56 2005-02-17 - $158
  20. I seem to remember the following cropping up on a few playlists as well: Darlene Love - Lord, If You're A Woman - WARNER-SPECTOR Kell Osborne - That's All Right Baby - TREY
  21. But it did come out an official LP in 1976 with the confusing title "Phil Spector Wall of Sound Vol. 6 - Rare Masters 2".
  22. The US release usually sells for $75-$100 on eBay these days. The superior MONO release is much harder to find than the STEREO release though. There goes about 5-10 stereo copies for every mono copy that turns up.
