New York - Any Tips
I spent 10 days in New York during November last year and didn't have any problems finding good records. The record stores are heavily centred around LPs/12"s but there were good 7"s to be found in all record stores that I visited and I brought hundreds of 45s with me home. No super rarities, but good, in-demand and sometimes very obscure records were easy to find in all stores. They have all got the various price guides and are generally very clued up on prices so don't expect to find Shrine 45s for $5... I did notice though that VG+/EX- type records were considerably cheaper than they would be on eBay/dealers lists etc. and I managed to pick up cheap scratchy-looking-but-good-playing copies of some rarities. All the stores I went to were willing to negotiate on prices if you spent more than $100 or so. As far as Manhattan goes, I'd recommend a visit to these stores: Academy Records 12 West 18th Street, NY 10011 (between 5th Ave & 6th Ave) Academy Records 415 East 12th Street, NY 10009 (between 1st Ave & Ave A) Big City Records 521 East 12th Street, NY 10009 (between Ave A & Ave B ) A-1 Records 439 East 6th Street, NY 10009 (between 1st Ave & Ave A) Gimme Gimme Records 325 East 5th Street, NY 10003 (between 1st Ave & 2nd Ave, only open fri-sat 13-22 and sun 13-19) Good Records NYC 218 East 5th Street, NY 10009 (between 2nd Ave & 3rd Ave) Sound Library 165 Orchard Street, NY 10002 (don't go here prior to 18:00/19:00) Strider Records 22 Jones Street #1, NY 10014 (usually only takes want lists and you're not allowed to look through his 45s, but ask for his boxes of northern soul) It's ofcourse crucial to have contacts if you want to get access to private collections/dealers. But as far as record stores goes, the above places served me well. Very friendly staff at all places as well. Have a nice trip and good luck!

Any Info On These Two Unknown (?) 45's?
David Hartfield has also got the following titles registered with BMI: "Let's Start Praising The Lord", "O Lord", "Just Gonna Be That Way" and "All The Way". Considering that, and the fact that WINNING STAR is registered with the following address over at BMI: WINNING STAR MUSIC 349 S 9TH ST RICHMOND, CA 94804-2405 ...it's not too far of a stretch that it's the same David Hartfield that nowadays is a bishop in the Free Light Of The World church in Fresno, CA: I might ofcourse be totally wrong about this though!

Any Info On These Two Unknown (?) 45's?
The artists/songwriters on this one are David Hartfield and Robert Hartfield (check out the "heart" in the label logo, and what looks like a "Z" is "f"). Don't know anything about it apart from that it has been suggested that it is by the same Hartfield Brothers that issued a 45 on BOOLA-BOOLA. Doesn't really sound like it though!

Fortune & Hi-Q Records
I don't know how they did it, but the (as far as I know) legit Vampisoul label out of Spain issued two CDs about 5 years ago by Nathaniel Mayer and Andre Williams that featured some of their Fortune sides. Solid Solution 7'' On Clarkies Auction Now
No, that one definitely exists. And it's also a slightly different version than on the LP (basically the same backing track, but the lead and backing vocals are not the same).
-
We're Gonna Make It -New World
Yes. The US and brazilian issue copies are the only ones that feature the track "We're Gonna Make It".
-
We're Gonna Make It -New World
There is a demo copy of that release, but it's got mono and stereo versions of the "wrong" side ("Help The Man").

Soul Acts We Underrate
I think that the 1964-1969 stuff by Ben E. King is seriously underrated. I once put together a full CD with my fave tracks by him from that period and it's one of my most played CDs!

Solid Solution 7'' On Clarkies Auction Now
Actually, the last time this topic was up for discussion on here Steve G categorically stated that the scan of the original Silver Spoon 7" was, and I quote, "not a real 45". Steve also wrote "when the scan appeared on Clarkie's list, I asked him about it at great Yarmouth and he told me it was a wind up":

Price Going Up On This One
By the way, here's a great picture of Levon & The Hawks from a year before they issued "He Don't Love You": Their "Leave Me Alone" released as The Canadian Squires (just a couple of months prior to their first Atco 45) is a superb garage rock pounder:
-
Price Going Up On This One
They were a canadian band (a.k.a. The Band who backed Bob Dylan and earlier Ronnie Hawkins) so it would make sense that the canadian ATCO release was the first issue, but I certainly don't know for sure. Perhaps the canadian 45 was issued a couple of weeks/months later than the first US Atco release due to demand from their homeland? By the way, there are 3 years between the different US Atco issues of "He Don't Love You": Levon & The Hawks - He Don't Love You / The Stones I Throw - ATCO 6383 (1965) Levon & The Hawks - He Don't Love You / Go Go Liza Jane - ATCO 6625 (1968)

I Believe In Miracles - Mark Capanni
According to Don Peake's homepage (he was the arranger/band leader on the Mark Capanni 45s) all three tunes on the two 45s were recorded during one session on the 23rd of July 1974. There most likely WAS a demo recording made by Mark prior to the Jackson Sisters version, but the music on the Capitol 45s was recorded some 6-8 months after the Jackson Sisters version had been released.

I Believe In Miracles - Mark Capanni
It sounds nothing like the Jackson Sisters version. In a minute I will upload the two Mark Capanni tunes that aren't already in refosoul. His releases were obviously geared towards AOR/MOR radio and the comparison with Jimmy Webb that Pete did above is not far off. The "other" Mark Capanni tracks are very mellow sunshine pop / soft rock tunes. "A Day In The Blue" even reminds me a bit of Glen Campbell's take on "By The Time I Get To Phoenix".
