  1. You're right Colin. I couldn't believe the quality of the tunes they played in the Modern Room. Nearest I've got to it recently was when Dave Thorley did the Aston Villa Football Club event. Bloody fantastic night that. Kev
  2. So I gather that It's more or less an early r'n'b sound. Kev
  3. Thanks de-to. Would Jackie Wilson's version of 'Shake' be classed as a 'tittyshaker'? Kev

  6. I keep coming across this term 'Tittyshaker' and as much as it conjures up a lovely picture in my mind I honestly have no idea what it refers to. Could it be stomping RnB with 200rpm tambourine beats? Is it some wierd form of popcorn? Hopefully someone out there can enlighten me. Faithfully Kev
  7. I was would say Ady's Farile's Spelling (sic) Clarkie's glasses Sam's hat Our Dave's tache Kev
  8. Julie, I'm sure the last time I played it was at Boogaloo but at my 45th Birthday. (God have we been going there that long.) I love it for all it's popiness & memories. The analogy for me is only a little bit more stretched than say 'Love Train' Get on board y'all. Maybe it's time to dig it out again for my 50th. Kev

  10. I remember going to a few wheel revival nights but they were in the early nineties. Always had a good night there. Mostly. Got b0l0xd there one night Jackie Green & Mark Bicknel kept an eye on me-I remember selling soul sam records out of my sales box for 50p each coz I thought I was back in 1968.

  14. Same design Ken? Have you seen any others? Polka Dots maybe?
  15. Hi I just picked this up this week and it's a new one for me. Got lots of blank one sided promos blank or with dead groove but never a design like this. It's got me wondering what other designs are out there. Thought this would look good on a one sided Soul Set on Johnson. What do you think? Cheers Kev

  19. A few things Go to jail for a) knowingly passing off a bootleg as an original b)promoting a night knowingly on the same night as someone already established in the same town (has been known) c) nicking records out of Rob Messer's sales box Go straight to Go if a) a tune you're playing goes 'big' b)you find a great unknown record c) you get to a nighter and find loads of your mates there and have a wolloping time of it. d) finding the records that were robbed out of Rob Messer's sales box.
  20. Rob, wasn't it used for the intro to tv cricket on BBC in the 70's? If not sure is close. Kev

  22. Hi Pat Last time I was down the BHM was when me and our Dave did the last alldayer there. I think you'd gone back to Ireland by then. It was an OK day but I got the impression that some people didn't turn up out of loyalty to you (which I can sort of understand). ...and it pissed down all day. I was also there the night Jr Walker was due to play. I came up from London with a bunch of friends. Shame that night, it had so much going for it then so much lost! I've got great memoties of BHM. I remember arguing like a gud 'un with Tim Brown about how he wouldn't lend me a few records to listen to when he had suitcases full of them. Fighting with George Sharp cos he wouldn't do me a deal with £2.00 off £35 worth of records. Trying to get Pat Brady into a vodka session (just for fun).Great days. I was talking to Arthur Fenn about how I used to spend lots of time in the Modern room and asked him if it was always empty (the music was fantastic). I'd never seen more than 5 people in there. He said they'd had some chocker do's in there. maybe I missed the more popular sessions somehow. Always loved that modern room with Sam, Arthur and Pete Haigh. All the best for the future. Kev
