Seen This Bootleg?
The orange UK RCA issue fetches around £30 on ebay. Maybe the owner of the original OOTP label could take legal action? He's still knocking about somewhere I think

Ian Levine 3 Hour Podcast Solid Soul Sensations
No, its just because its being built up as the return of Ian Levine with the 100 club spot and everything. Also other people dont build everything up as "this is the best thing ever, better than so called top dj's are playing" blah, blah, blah Most of the stuff I've heard so far is distinctly average with some absolute tripe in there. If he thinks this kind of stuff is going to cut it at the top level alongside Butch he's sadly mistaken. If he just presented them as "this is music I really like have a listen and see what you think" that would be fine but I suppose thats not in his nature, he knows he going to get a reaction and is probably reading this now. As said before not all nighter music in 2012

What Do You Class As Cross Over Soul?
Thats crossover, no funk in there to my ears though. Funk shoudn't even come into the equation IMO

What Do You Class As Cross Over Soul?
60s soul has a definite style to it, 70s soul also has a definite style to it - the two are completely different and fairly easy to identify one from the other. Records from say 68-72 can have elements of both decades in them and are less easy to define. In general thats all there is to it really, I dont know why people have to complicate thing with loads of different theories as to what crossover is

Will The Real Simon Soussan Stand Up
Kev, I dont think it would. Most people (me included) would be genuinely interested in any tales you could tell from those long gone days. Love reading things from people who were central to the development of the scene, there's a lot of gaps in my knowledge still to fill

I've been surprised once or twice about records being played well before I thought they had so I would never rule anything out. However I'd need some serious proof that this was played before 79, rather than a couple of "so and so said it was' and some hazy recollections to believe this. I was there when Searling started playing it and it blew the scene into orbit, surely someone around at that time would have been aware if it was previously known?

Yes it is mate, not quite as good IMO. Made a mistake with that once upon a time

Alan Rhodes used to run a pub about a mile from where I live, quite a while ago. I didn't know at the time (found out much later) or i would have gone and had a word with him. The strange world of....

Which Northern Track You Dislike The Most
Er what? one of the best soul records ever! Still i respect your opinion, Magnetics- Lady In Green for me - what a pile o' shite that is (anyone who likes this feel free to slag me off!)
-
Pete Waterman Northern Soul
I agree with Chalky here, the nighters I go to are mainly up tempo dance music. Also the funky edged records that have come to the fore are nothing like James Brown funk to me. I certainly wouldnt enjoy hearing any JB type funk or lots of mid tempo and ballads

Pete Waterman Northern Soul
Andy the 'up front' scene is not as you imagine it mate. Softer/slower/smoother? No - my taste in music is up tempo 60's soul in the same vein as that which we were brought up on, and thats exactly what I get ( in the most part) at the venues I go to. Have a listen to Chalky's podcasts (theres a link at the bottom of his posts) and listen to the up tempo tunes on the Andy Dyson bit. There are some mid tempo and a couple of 70s tracks as well but listen to Sir joe, Eddie Daniels (actually this was played in 76) Hopkins Brothers, Johnny Praye, Tiaras etc and tell me these records arent as good as the best oldies?

Who Was Betty Boo?
Harry, Betty performed at the Northampton weekender in 2006 along with Pat & Diane Lewis. They sang together as the Adorables and then she did "Say It Isnt So" on her own! Apparently it was the first time she had performed the song since she recorded it as a 16 year old, at first she was a little scared I think and struggled a bit but after about 20 seconds the crowd stared singing and that lifted her. Just been looking for a photo to post up but the only one I've got of her is a bit dark and you cant see her very well. I've got nice pics of me with Pat & Diane cos they came into the bar area after the show but Betty didnt, I think she might have been overwhelmed by it all. Shame I would have loved to have a photo with her
