  1. Echo previous comments, great to hear from one of the legendary Servicemen - nice one Larry Any tales/stories/info from those days will be greatly appreciated on here!!
  2. When did samanthas finish? It was done by the time i started going to nighters in early 78
  3. An old mate of Steve's Julian Bojko from Farnsfied has asked me to post this for him: "Shocked and saddened by this awful news, Steve was a great guy who was around the northern scene from the mid 70s. He used to travel with us to Wigan on the Notts bus from the Britt, as well as Palais all dayers and all the other venues of that era. In more recent years I've seen him and his wife Liz at local venues such as the Grosvenor & Kingsway and he always had time for a chat and to reminisce - usually with a big smile on his face. I remember his favourite DJ was always John Vincent. .......RIP old mate" Boyco
  4. What a shame Dean, lovely bloke who always had time to have a word with you. Another one gone too soon...
  5. I'm good....
  6. I was around 78/9 and can't remember it from back then although my memory has been AWOL for a while now.........
  7. You're Good Enough for Me..................SORTED Anyone got one at a reasonable price? Must be M- condition though
  8. "The Swan Sherwood Rooms with Banner & Phil" I remember the flyers well mate but was sadly too young to go when the Mansfield scene was at its height, although me & my mates used to stand outside at times when we were about 14 listening to the music and dreaming of being one of the Swan boys when we got a bit older. Know/knew most of the names you mention, particularly Dave Humphries, Trev & JB - I reckon Ivor has turned into a professional funeral attender but that the name of the game as everyone gets older. Skegsoul isn't Dave Raistrick BTW Dave is on under his own name
  9. Well the original point was could you compile a top 100 chart of crossover tunes, an interesting topic and that has been discussed to an extent. What a crossover record actually is has been gone over many times and people have their own interpretations of it so I can't see the point really. Maybe I just got out of the wrong side of the bed this morning........... Mr grumpy
  10. This has turned into another pointless discussion over what a simple term means instead of what the original poster intended........
  11. Well there aren't many crossover records from 1964 are there?
  12. Agree completely, jesus - people have to make hard work of things sometimes...
  13. One of the iconic records of recent times...... great memories of the best venues on the scene over the last 10 years or so for me
  14. I think the bootlegs are rare Andy, Ive not seen many anyway
  15. Its not exactly rocket science................. Also the words chip, shoulder & on come to mind
  16. Agree with Rod, you'd have to go a long way to find a better seller. Grading is spot on and if you win one i guarantee it will be dropping through your letterbox in 7 days. Only downside is he always gets top prices so chances of a bargain are slim
  17. I suppose it depends where you go, I can only remember hearing it 2 or 3 times since Wigan Great record BTW, love it
  18. Yeah I went to that mate, bought a yellow copy of the Superlatives for a fiver - funny how some things stick in your mind, can't remember much else about it
  19. Thats what most collectors do with their records....
  20. What did he say that i didn't? This is just a wind up
  21. "This is where the confusion comes in. There is a musical genre called Northern soul. It was coined by the African American community itself. Soul, Northern soul, Southern soul, Juke style soul, Jive, Go-Go, etc. These are terminologies given to these genres by the community. The people themselves. In time Those outside of the community may attempt to call it something else and claim it originated some where else or was coined some where else. It would be harder to do these days, but not impossible. "NORTHERN SOUL" is an example of how this can happen. The true History of this community in the field of their own music and terminologies has been dealt such injustice it's almost unreal." I really don't see what you're arguing here. There isn't any confusion. Our "northern soul" is not the same as your "northern soul' Your use of the term was first, so what? who cares? You're arguing about two entirely separate things, one of which you know very little about
  22. Steve L replied to Jayboy's topic in All About the SOUL
I agree , its crap mate but I doubt if anything will ever be done about it
  23. Same here I've got a box full that I can't bear to throw away, I got them ready to go in the bin a while ago but somehow they ended up in my shed
  24. I'm afraid you're missing the point entirely, there could have been little green men on mars calling something or other northern soul. The "northern soul" that is discussed on this forum is the music scene that originated in England and has nothing to do with "what we referred to as garage parties particularly in D.C, Philly, parts of Richmond and northern Virginia as our "NORTHERN SOUL BROTHERS" apart from where northern soul music comes from of course
