Well the original point was could you compile a top 100 chart of crossover tunes, an interesting topic and that has been discussed to an extent. What a crossover record actually is has been gone over many times and people have their own interpretations of it so I can't see the point really. Maybe I just got out of the wrong side of the bed this morning........... Mr grumpy

This has turned into another pointless discussion over what a simple term means instead of what the original poster intended........

Well there aren't many crossover records from 1964 are there?

Agree completely, jesus - people have to make hard work of things sometimes...
  5. One of the iconic records of recent times...... great memories of the best venues on the scene over the last 10 years or so for me
  6. I think the bootlegs are rare Andy, Ive not seen many anyway
  7. Its not exactly rocket science................. Also the words chip, shoulder & on come to mind
  8. Agree with Rod, you'd have to go a long way to find a better seller. Grading is spot on and if you win one i guarantee it will be dropping through your letterbox in 7 days. Only downside is he always gets top prices so chances of a bargain are slim
  9. I suppose it depends where you go, I can only remember hearing it 2 or 3 times since Wigan Great record BTW, love it
  10. Yeah I went to that mate, bought a yellow copy of the Superlatives for a fiver - funny how some things stick in your mind, can't remember much else about it
  11. Thats what most collectors do with their records....
  12. What did he say that i didn't? This is just a wind up
  13. "This is where the confusion comes in. There is a musical genre called Northern soul. It was coined by the African American community itself. Soul, Northern soul, Southern soul, Juke style soul, Jive, Go-Go, etc. These are terminologies given to these genres by the community. The people themselves. In time Those outside of the community may attempt to call it something else and claim it originated some where else or was coined some where else. It would be harder to do these days, but not impossible. "NORTHERN SOUL" is an example of how this can happen. The true History of this community in the field of their own music and terminologies has been dealt such injustice it's almost unreal." I really don't see what you're arguing here. There isn't any confusion. Our "northern soul" is not the same as your "northern soul' Your use of the term was first, so what? who cares? You're arguing about two entirely separate things, one of which you know very little about

I agree , its crap mate but I doubt if anything will ever be done about it
  15. Same here I've got a box full that I can't bear to throw away, I got them ready to go in the bin a while ago but somehow they ended up in my shed
  16. I'm afraid you're missing the point entirely, there could have been little green men on mars calling something or other northern soul. The "northern soul" that is discussed on this forum is the music scene that originated in England and has nothing to do with "what we referred to as garage parties particularly in D.C, Philly, parts of Richmond and northern Virginia as our "NORTHERN SOUL BROTHERS" apart from where northern soul music comes from of course

Sad news - he was lovely bloke, RIP mate
  18. You're got a vivid imagination Carl...........
  19. How many young people were there though? I'm extremely sceptical about this "new generation of young uns who will carry the scene on" that people keep talking about.
  20. I seem to remember reading somewhere that she'd denied ever recording this in the 60s?
  21. Travesty - coming to a soul night near you courtesy of Bootleg Bill your friendly neighbourhood Northern Soul "DJ"................
  22. Abssolutely, I'm gonna get a neck injury looking at ebay - I just sit there shaking my head thinking WTF??
  23. Yeah thats right mate, a lot of top DJ's did it for next to nothing because they knew we were running the club for the right reasons which says a lot to me - its not always about money. The right people in a room enjoying quality music together
  24. Personally I'm trying to limit my exposure to Eddie Parker - I'm gone which is on the verge of becoming overplayed for me and I'd hate to get fed up of it
