Where to you start? theres an old saying .. "whatever he touched, turned to gold" well this is true in the case of Van McCoy. Baby Dont change your mind, Walk away from love, through to Sandi Sheldon on OKEH, to Billy Woods , A love you can depend on, etc etc. the man was a true musical genius. His arranging was up there, sometimes above and beyond the Big hitters, like Gamble / Huff, Barry White, Berry Gordy's Motown The Hustle is a masterpiece of orchestral arrangement, David Ruffin sang his heart out on WAFL, with another arrangement masterpiece behind him. he was indeed MIDAS, i have nothing but admiration and awe for him.- Selling up ... The time has come.... after a lifetime , Iโm selling up . I have some belting records , some a tenner, some considerably more. All the big Motown, some lovely uk stuff, some top 500 (lots actually) . What will be the best way? I would take 5k as a Job lot. Iโve done a conservative estimate of 8k , last night . All Grapevines included. I remember the DJ booth being to the left of stage (as you looked at it) . I also remember KR doing his bank hol sunday nights, with the DJ's being halfway down RH side , in the late 90's . on a side note, i was talking to a friend last night, ref Palais people. i mentioned i only remember two Nottingham faces from that time. one is the kamikaze dancer, who is still out n about (Dont know his name, bald, wears a vest and a beer towel on his head, when he sweats), the other was yourself Steve . .......- Notts. Wonderful place ! being a youngster, myself ๐, I did'nt start going until early 78. But i never missed a single event after that, until '83. a lot of time spent in this fabulous venue, Funkin' for jamaica , downstairs, Stompin upstairs. Whistles, water pistols (remember the bag searches?). Frank Wocko telling tales of old, whilst waiting in the Queue. seeing a guy in a dress, in the foyer toilets and realising he was from my home town ! ๐คจ fabulous memories, i seem to recall the seats in the area front left of stage, were Green , not red ?- Notts.
