Maybe some reissue ? Interesting tho. On the orig DJO label its "You Turn me on / Generation Gap". YTMO is a personal fave. A powerful, rumbling, moody track with great vocals.
  3. Using the term "bootleg" and "counterfeit" on Ebay will get the items removed, as I was told by an Ebay that they have key word software which will identify it. I questioned it when I was selling some 70's boots about 10 years ago where the listing got pulled. "reissue" and "repro" will get through OK. So I guess some list 70's boots as reissues to get round it.
  4. Not as good as the first story but here's one. Its around '75 and I've just turned 13 and been allowed into the seniors disco at the Chantry Youth Club in Chesterfield. Up until this point I've only listened to chart stuff, so when the DJ puts on Motown and Northern I go mental and think WTF is this its fantastic. It turns out the DJ used to do the warm up at Samantha's in Sheffield and was going out with a local girl and got the gig. Anyway the next day I proudly announce to my parents that I'm into Northern and Motown and hence forth do not disturb my ears with pop drivel. My mum says 'yes I've got some of that stuff'. Now I've seen my parents record collection and it ranged from Mario Lanza in the 50's through to the Beatles in the 60's, so I'm like 'yeh right mum'. She's taking the Michael here. The next day I come in from a game of footy with my mates on the street and Grandad is sat there with a cardboard box on the table. 'Have a look' says mum, so I open it up and, well f*** me, inside are loads of US Gordy, Motown and Tamla 45's in their sleeves, from Martha & Vandellas, Four top's, Temps, and so on. So now I'm looking a top tit in front of mum and dad and wondering how on earth they came across around 100 US 45's and where had they been - I'd never seen them? I never really got to the bottom of it except it was something to do with my Grandad's cousin's son, who had done some work for someone and had been given the 45's. He didn't want them so gave them to his dad who in turn gave them to my Grandad, who then gave them to mum, who didn't actually want them, so they were put in the loft. All clear everyone ? Andy
  5. Probably best send a PM to get straight to the buyer. Click the envelope icon at the top right of the screen 👍
  6. Here's a really soulful reggae tune that would appeal to many scenes. Sparse backing with gritty vocals and nice background harmonies. Anything involving Noel Bailey is always a great tune IMHO. This is a store old stock copy but lets call it E+. Post is 2.00 First 3.50 recorded and 5.00 worldwide Paypal as F&F please or add 4% PM to order or ask questions Thanks Andy _________________________________________________ Tempo & Jet Set - Sweetest Thing to Me - Impact £50 YT clip for ref only:
  7. TBH Mike I've had the C-157 issues and DJ copies numerous times, but only once the C-185. At the time of 185 the label was distributed by Roulette and maybe they though WHIGTL was worth another push but it didn't take off, so didn't get an issue. Just guessing really...could be just rambling nonsense of course. Correction: Discogs does show an issue of C-185 as does the photo above Note to self: pay more attention. Andy Andy
  8. Thanks for the info guys. All makes sense 👍
  9. Just a question if anyone can answer. My idle curiosity working overtime. The colorful history of the label is quite well known and the fact that it stopped releases for a time before restarting. My question is this: I have Jean Wells - What have I got to lose on Calla C-157 and also on a white promo C-185 (see scans). I got this WDJ from the US, distributed by Roulette and date '72 The issue is that Dave Rimmers discography states that C-185 is Charlie Hodges - Slip around / easier said.... There is no mention of two releases or any white promo under any number ? Appreciate your thoughts as its bugged me for some time. Pressing plant or label mix up, maybe boot ? Did Roulette pull it ? ATB Andy
  10. In this case its probably because there was a large US military presence in the Philippines around that time. I have the Ron Matlock LP on Cotillion with Philippino record shop stamps on the cover.
  11. It depends on what you mean by "reissues". There are certain labels and individuals that quite frankly are bootlegging records and I can see that they will be using a copy of the original - pops, ticks and all, or maybe a tape of the track, hence dodgy quality. They are there to cash in and don't really care about quality or the buyer. However, there are those labels like Diggin Deep and Hit and Run (there are more not mentioned) that do a proper licensed release and and therefore use master tapes or some other format, maybe a studio acetate, that care about the artist, product and quality. My advice is stick to the labels that do this.👍 As for restricting the number of copies, that's a good practice, but on the flip side the soul scene has forever been about supply and demand and prices reflect this, even on new release stuff which is normally restricted to a few hundred copies. Even on older originals I've seen what were £5 'Front Page Specials' for the dealers 10 or 15 years ago which are now going for 500+. Its the nature of the beast I'm afraid.
  12. This might be of interest Wilxy..... https://windlefreelance.com/2020/11/20/its-better-to-cry-the-appreciations-of-charlotte/ ATB Andy
  13. Had the record about three times in years gone by. Never seen a cover for it tho'. However there are people that can make picture covers as someone did one for me years ago. Andy
  14. They were the essentially same group and the same group of labels. I remember some discussion around this on the Satan's Breed (Jenges) thread. 16. Garry I think I've got nearly all issues up in the loft and I'll try and have a quick look. Alternatively Mr Pearson may have it at his fingertips ? @Derek Pearson Andy Mac
  17. Hi I have available for sale: Ron Matlock LP - Love City - Cotillion £30, which include the classic 'You got the best of me' plus other modern soul tracks. The price of YGTBOM on 45 is probably 75 plus nowadays. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6YSYmFf7K68 This is an original and not the later reissues. The Vinyl is in E+ condition and the cover Ex, with just a very minimal corner seam scuff and a feint stamp from the record distributor I think. I've included a stock photo of the cover for a reminder. P&P for UK would be £5. Paypal as F&F please or add 4% PM for order or questions Thanks Andy
  18. One more on the modern side....Andy
  19. I read the LP would be released early next year but nothing about unless I missed something 7 ?
  20. You can paste and copy YT links Franc and then choose if you want it as a link or an embedded video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ifWZIluKqCg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NM8vJFOZ4UU Or this way....... Andy Mac
  21. It really depends on the size and potential value of your collection. If its large and has some rare and in demand pieces and could fetch multiple thousands of pounds, then many of the smaller dealers will probably not be able to shell out that kind of money in one go. Therefore it leaves the bigger dealers as the best bet such as JM and Tim Brown. Be careful about selling via dealers on a commission basis i.e. your records are on consignment and you have to wait for them to sell via the dealer to get your cash....could be years. No dealer will want to take a collection that's been cherry picked, so don't be tempted to sell off some tasty bits before letting it go. Alternatively my experience is that every record will sell provided you pitch the price right. If you auction off the rarer stuff via Ebay, Facebook groups, SS etc, and then put up the 'normal records' on SS or Facebook groups they will sell. But please don't do what some do and pitch it at "book price" or because Popsike says somebody has paid 100 for it, but every other sale is 20. You'll be holding the records for a long time. Price sensibly and they are gone. Remember big dealers and Ebay will give you global reach for sales.
  22. Back to the thread...... Two mates run a NS classics and Motown event and advertised as such.....its does what it says on the tin...Classics all the way. This comes straight from my mate ..... Last time round mate 1 was at the decks and a woman came up asking "are you going to play northern soul all day?" . "What do you want ?" says mate 1. Woman says "can you play some 80's club dance classics ?". Errrr....... A 'Facebook reviewer' who clearly has no idea about NS but feels she can criticise anyway, says afterwards that the DJ's were "self obsessed playing obscure tunes". Mate 2 posts back a reply with his playlist which are all Top 50 Classics and says "which of these is obscure to you?". Second review on Facebook states that they played tracks by "The Bangles". It left both of them totally and utterly bewildered.😜 As said above the oldies type venues seem to be dragging in the curious who have no idea about NS and those who think they know something but probably came back to the scene post lockdown after 50 years away. FFS 🤪🤬

  24. Just the one for today and what a cracker. A sublime piece of sweet / crossover that is now getting the attention it deserves. Yet again its one of those 45's that sits around until the lock down DJ's dust it off and give it a spin and then its on its way up. This outing shows the vocal quality of this group and I'm sure one or both sides will float your boat. Remember as well there is NO large delivery cost and VAT from the US ! This is a old store stock copy and unplayed as far as I know, but lets call it NM. 25. I think we are talking at cross purposes here. A test press is just that - a pressing for quality control purposes. The promo should be exactly that, sent to DJ's, dealers, radio shows etc to promote the record and is usually sent free of charge i.e. the quid-pro-quo is that you get airplay and exposure for your release.. I have no issue if the label wants to sell any spare test presses or promo's they have left over - just don't charge double or a large premium over and above the stocker for it. If its affecting the economics of the release then why do any promo's at all ? I'm sure DJ's, dealers, radio shows etc would be more than happy with just a stocker if its free gratis. In my case I could have bought as many promo's as stockers if I wanted to pay double the price directly from the label. Surely that defeats the object of the promo release ?
