  1. No. As per my previous post it has been listed in the Soul harmony Singles book for years and the entries come from peoples collections.
  2. Cant really be an unreleased track as it appeared in the Soul harmony Singles book and that was published years ago. It may be a strange name but what about Sins of Satan - dance and free your mind - there's another strange one. As Dave W pointed out there is also the 'Sin' label associated with Jenges and Renee where the label is Red with black 'Satan Masks' as the design.
  3. The SHS book gives it as Jenges 5006, but as its all a bit of mess it may well be on Renee 5006 along with the Dream merchants - Since you left / girl I need Renee 5006. I'm going for a lie down
  4. Interesting stuff. I note the titles above and according to the Soul Harmony Singles the Satan's Breed release is listed as 5006 Since you left me / Road Runner, but your copy has The Girl I Need and number 4545. The Indelgents is a Jenges 4547 number and Harry Moon on Sin is 4553. But the numbering for the other Jenges, Renee and Sin labels all fit together based on a 5**** numbering. I'd love to know how it all fits together and what about Harry and Vee Vee on Sin 4554............this soul record malarkey's all a bit confusing

  6. Not sure where you get this interpretation from ? Nothing in the comments suggests this is a "special pressing for the Northern Soul Scene" or "its was never issued anywhere". According to Dave T : "Richard Brooks told me that it was repressed by the label, because the first run sold out, he also had both pressings at his house. " According to Dave W: "...groups Nasco sides, all of which were heavily imported into the UK, as new releases to find great appreciation with both the Northern and Modern Soul scene’s of the early 70’s"
  7. So as I understand it....both label versions are legitimate in the sense that they were both issued by the label, but the black and silver design was done after the coloured label to meet demand for further copies ? Wouldn't our American cousins just refer to this as "first and second press" as opposed to "original and reissue" ?
  8. The were the Formations, Corner Boys and Hot Ice.
  9. Ian Plenty have gone through Evilbay over the years and through US and UK dealers. I'm not saying there are thousands out there, but based on people I know have a copy in UK, EU and US they are probably out there in the hundreds. There's probably a ton in Japan as they were after this sort of stuff way before us. My point was the price people are asking you would think there is only a handful of copies i.e. a rare record. Andy
  10. Yes you are on another planet There is a difference between rarity and value, usually due to demand. Kind of economics 101. This record has been around for years, and used to fetch just a modest sum. Certain DJ's get behind it and the demand goes up. Like most records on the soul scene when its gets big everyone wants a copy, so the 'cheque book charlies' drive up the cost because they must have it there and then. Obviously when the cost is high sellers will ask that amount, they would be foolish not to. But is it due to rarity...no.
  11. I'm sure there was a thread about 12 months ago on some unreleased Ike Perry tracks. There was a sound file from memory also. Cant remember the titles but I'm sure someone will dig out the thread.
  12. Not that rare, plenty of copies in existence. You might even get one if you ask on here.

  15. You forgot the third option which is a 'social scene', as many I know don't dance and don't really listen or take an interest in the music.

  17. Interesting question Robb. Being a Jobete tune I thought it would have been a shoe-in for one of Motown's girl groups to put out. But I've never seen any B side, album track or acetate with YTMBIS on it. I don't know the full story around Mary, but I understand it was Motown producer Marc Gordon who introduced her to Modern Records when she was 17. Why not to Gordy and his group of labels ? If you have any info it would be appreciated.
  18. Looking for a copy of the above release from Numero records. It was part of their look into Ohio's Boddie studio vaults. it was a give away on the Número tour and to subscribers. Please pm with condition and price. thanks andy
  19. I bought a pile of these off Moerer some years ago and knocked them out at 20 quid . it wasn't particularly rare and more of collectors record. Would have thought 50 quid absolute max today. A
  20. This has gone on for years. I remember a guy in the Notts Derbyshire area in the 70's walking around venues with a 50 box trying to look clever. it also happened to me at the Bretby soul nights runs by Chris Anderton. One guy who now is a dealer had a box with one of my all time wants. We agreed a price and that he would keep it in the box until I was leaving and then I would collect and pay. Went back at the end of the night only to be told that the record wasn't for salemas he was just looking to see what reaction there was to it. i was all for removing his head at this point but others convinced me to ignore it and move on.
  21. True Chalky, but I was referring to collectors of the soul 45's we collect but don't venture out into venues, forums, DJ ing etc. There are quite a few hidden collections out there and I know from meeting one of the said collectors that there are some rare and obscure items tucked away.
  22. Chalky i base my comments on experience having had a few tunes over the years which I thought were in the two or three copy range only to find later that there were copies in collections over here and in the U.S. I know of two collectors who don't have anything to do with the scene but collect avidly. One of them is a lurker on here Drew (had to change the Monica to Andy Mac as there is a Drew already)
  23. it's certainly rare over here, but I tend to steer clear of the one copy or two copies type assumptions. There are probably more copies stateside due to the various collecting scenes and as one U.S. dealer said to me "America is a big place". But like I said great find and enjoy it - well done !
  24. I think it's a bit of a girl group collector thing as well in the U.S. and probably has a different value in that market. its always reminded me a little of the early girl group Motown stuff - but maybe that's just my ears. nice find anyway
  25. Its not so much a recent thing, although I agree that there does seem to be some hyper inflated prices in recent months. Back in the mid 90's I wrote an article for a fanzine that was going to start up (but never did) and it was all about the jump in prices around that date and the reasons for it. I based my theory on getting a list from a dealer, who then went to the US and put a similar list out a couple of months later on their return. The prices had gone up with a £5 record going to £10, a £20 record going to £40 and so on. Often the price of a record bears little resemblence to the rarity. Think Bobby Reed on Bell, a very common record on a major label yet it still gets top pricing. So I thought about other factors and besides the obvious of dealers making profits and there seemed one major factor at the time. Many soul fans who left the scene when Wigan shut its doors - along with many other clubs also - it seems they began to return around this time coining the phrase used sometimes as "returnees". As they were off the scene getting married, kids, university or whatever they were doing other clubs took the mantle of Wigan e.g Stafford and they tended to play a different type of "northern" sound and catered for other types of soul music. So my theory at the time was that the returnees were listening to alot of new tunes and were eager to purchase, hence the jump in price due to demand not rarity. Today as someone has already mentioned, there are some different factors. The liquidity of a certain age group has improved with kids gone, mortgages paid and pension pots up for grabs they want to buy something near and dear to them - perhaps their favouite 45? There is also the factor that "northern soul" has gone global to a certain extent so UK collectors face more competition from overseas. Look at the low rider scene around LA and California, where our some of our treasured 45's are in demand for the sweet harmony flip. There is another factor in diminishing finds as more "mom and pop" stores, "one stops" and warehouses have shut down over the years and apart from a few exceptions large finds have been rare. Tastes change also, just look at some of the more funky stuff being played out at todays venues. There are of course the die hards. Those who must have the latest and greatest because "xyz" DJ or dealer said its going to be massive. Most people understand the hype but I've seen people get burned as copies come out of the collections as the price grows ever more expensive. All this means that we are bound to see whats happening now, with some very surprising sums being paid for what many assumed were common records. I think the Top 500 will always command good prices whether you like them or not. Some newer discoveries have remained truly rare and maintain their value, others will surface and prices drop accordingly. I guess you pays your money - you takes your choice !
