  1. I also quite like the Gabor Szabo take on this with guitar lead. A bit more chilled. I've not heard the Bettye LaVette.
  2. pretty much this, cop the boot or CD or carve or whatever to play at "less serious" nights, but you probably shouldn't be hearing this at a bonafide original vinyl only shindig.
  3. back after a couple weeks off https://www.ustream.tv/recorded/18195425
  4. one of the rew RP's on Nola I don't have
  5. too late, 1800+ people have been warned of your shady bootleg dealings..... when knee jerk reactions go terribly wrong......
  6. this is a great record, i only just grabbed a copy a couple weeks back, i'd been sleeping on it for sure
  7. how large are you talking? & your last sentence kind of agrees with what I said actually, it is all about the contents.
  8. or if you're on PC just press the PRTSC (Print Screen) key at the top right of the keyboard & then paste to a word document.
  9. yeah, so many people have lots of records, the key is to finding someone with lots of "good" records, which is actually pretty difficult.
  10. I have the green LP (Baby I'm For Real?) & quite like it. I think the only 45 I've kept is "I Like Your Style"/"We Can Make It Baby".
  11. I did a jukebox place which had just taken all the 60s-70s records out & randomly put them in non-matching 80s pic-sleeves. Heartbreaking. Talk about slow dig.
  12. looking through 15k 45s can really suck if there is a high percentage of chud. i remember one lot of 50k 45s which were almost all 80s crap & reissue jukebox hits, gruelling. really sucked. it was like that place where bad records had congregated to die....
  13. This is called Serato (a New Zealand invention), the music comes from mp3s on a laptop but can be controlled by 7" "records" using digital timecode. From a distance it looks like you are playing vinyl but actually you are just using the 45 lookalike timecode vinyl discs to cue up & control the mp3s. It's very popular with travelling DJs since your whole night can be played from the laptop, you can instantly download & play requests & not have to carry crates of records (genres which previously relied on 12" singles such as hip hop, dance & Top 40 DJs love it). Lots of venues have a Serato box installed now where you turn up with your laptop & 2 control records, plug in via USB & play your set. For soul DJs who don't own 45s it is a good alternative to "keep up appearances" I guess. Obviously not really for the rare soul scene but it has it's positives for other genre DJs.
  14. James Brown
  15. Not really an obvious choice for ML 45s to play out, but I played this out last weekend & got a few people asking about it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oNBKEFpqez4
  16. sorry my fault, i was at work & going off the mp3 I made from my 45 which for some reason I have apparently edited the organ intro off. i just checked my 45 & the organ intro is there, so they are definitely the same.
  17. i'm the uptempo/funky guy, you're the group/ballad guy, i don't know that we'll ever agree
  18. RPR version cuts off the intro & starts straight at the drum fill for some reason. You guys are correct on Key-Loc being the first local & then picked up by RPR in LA. Their other on RPR "Hip Huggin Mini" is also cool. The hardcore Soul Police could very well frown upon it being played, just tell them that since it is their 2nd release on the label it was actually released at the same time as the Key-Loc.......
  19. Fantastic Johnny C "Hitch It To The Horse". Found on the "Cool Broadway" 45 but not on his LP. Stormer!
