  1. not sure why the South Carolina/Need Your Loving 45 has a non-sequential catalog number, maybe earlier? the LP also has a local press but I think "SunnySoul" outbid me on that the only time I've seen it come up.
  2. i'll post up all the new zealand deram's tonight if i remember.
  3. yeah, this is all news to me & this raises a valid question which I really think needs adressing.
  4. Only Nachoman really knows for sure, as much as I can determine from experience, if the record is relatively complete & not missing a sizeable chunk, then it is NM. The "-" is supposed to tell you as a buyer that it is hammered & not to expect anything better. Also if you are unsatisfied with the grading system it is actually your fault as a buyer & "the system (ebay) sucks". It is never Les-Raul "Nachoman" Harris-Garcia's fault.
  5. Love that Roy Lee Johnson, still need to get around to grabbing a copy. The Meters are probably the best represented Josie stuff in my collection. I have a couple by Honey & The Bees which are ok. For the early stuff I like the Bobby Freemans. Mighty Hannibal "Fishin Pole" is great funk. Soul Angels "The Ladies Choice" Titus Turner "People Sure Act Funny" A lot of good stuff sprinkled amongst it all on this label. I need to check out more of the soul stuff, I seem to have a lot of funk & r&b on Josie.
  6. this week starts off with some blues/R&B/rockabilly stuff before heading back to soul https://www.ustream.tv/recorded/17627613
  7. one word, AVOID!
  8. after googling it they are definitely not the same, without being too interested I'd always just assumed the label had progressed, after all would two seperate people think to name a label Eric? obviously yes.... Sorry for any confusion guys. https://www.ericrecords.com/
  9. I think in the beginning they were releasing original stuff (Barbara Lynn, Big Sambo), but yeah most of the later stuff is all reissues. Not sure of their bootleg status, more likely they were bought by a bigger label who then changed the focus of the label....
  10. can't remember the last time i played that Marv Johnson, I never think to flip it over!
  11. I would love to see it, I think it is still on the Festival rounds. Can't wait for a dvd release. Wow, looks like Jamie Foxx has picked it up as a project, that is great news as they were struggling for funding last I heard (18 months ago). Looks like it is definitely getting a proper release!!
  12. this week's show, 2 hours of soul, funk & gospel 45s https://www.ustream.tv/recorded/17489095
  13. I usually take a lockable 100 count hard box, have had to open it for customs a few times but never had to check it in, fingers crossed. My partner forgot to lock hers once & lost it at a customs security guard who opened it & then snapped some 45s trying to force it closed again. This caused her to be held by airport security for a while until she cooled off. Fun times
  14. I can't choose which side I prefer, strong 2 sider. Will keep an eye out for a UK, Aus or US promo (apparantly they are vinyl). Thanks guys.
  15. let's just say I've been through the mill a couple of times regarding sampling a particularly tricky/frustrating one is on the go at the moment in fact
  16. no idea, i might be able to put up a clip of the Seven B later on if anyone wants to hear it.
  17. As far as the sampling thing is concerned, there is not a time limit, but there is a case as to whether it is fair use (I don't think Fair Use really stands up regarding music, I thought it was more for written works) or a defining characteristic of the new track (ala Beastie Boys). The fact that countless people haven't been sued is probably just a case of them getting away with it when technically they are breaking the law.
  18. 273 - Garland Hilton - Return Of Billy Joe / The Loneliest Man In The World Anyone know how this stacks up to his Seven B 45? I never knew he had this other 45 on White Cliffs. I've certainly never seen it in my travels.
  19. essentially there is no time limit regarding samples, you have to clear it, no matter how short.
  20. just got this in the post, a nice affordable way to have a good sounding copy of this. AGENTSMITH: how would one remix this? i think it grooves pretty hard as is?
  21. The one I have "It Do Me Good" is I think from memory a Female & Male duet. Not a girl group, the backing is Huey Smith's band from the time (The Hueys or whatever name they were going by at that point). I searched a bit into this when I was searching about the Little Buck 45s on Seven B & The Hueys 45 which Little Buck is vocalist on. There is not a lot on the net & a bit of what there is seems to be recycled from what I've typed in the past. A name offered up is Brenda Brandon, but I was never sure if someone just came up with this from the B. Brandon writers credit on some of the related 45s of the time. Another name associated is Pearl Edwards who cut the original version of "It Do Me Good" & is known to have still been associated with Huey Smith at the time the Pitter Pats 45 came out. Pearl Edwards is credited on the later Pitter Pats 45 "I'll Never Forget". I never dug much further because it was only peripheral to what I was hunting, so I don't who the male vocal is. Hope this is helpful. Good luck, the Huey Smith stuff is a bit of a mess
