  1. I hate 45s with small holes, even today when I get them I pop/cut those suckers right out.
  2. Can't stomach it anymore, had the New Zealand press on Bell, not any longer though.
  3. I've collected a lot on this label over the years, they were closely related to the Spar & Top Pop labels & had a variety of releases in many different styles. A notable thing is that a fair few are amongst the earliest commercially available true stereo 45 pressings. Sam Moore's first 45 was on the label. Many of the names were generic, so it may not even be the same singer or band on a records which are listed as being by the same artist. Lot's of Beatles sound a likes of varying degrees of competency. Some nice soul & girl group styled stuff though. Also some surprisingly good garagey versions of the Stones, Count Five, Mitch Ryder etc. Some that I have which are worthwhile IMO The Bugs/The Chellows - Twist & Shout/Stay The Chords/Jalopy Five - Have You Seen Your Mother Baby Standing In The Shadows/The Hair On My Chinny Chin Chin Harvey Frolic/The Spartas - Midnight Special/Sha La La La La Harvey Frolic/Bill Austin - Talking About My Baby/You Don't Own Me Peggy Gaines/Herbert Hunter - Loco-Motion/Bring It On Home To Me The Gleams/Ward Oliver - He's A Rebel/Next Door To Angel Dave Grundy Combo/Ed Mendel - Green Onions/I Remember You Ed Hardin & The Cadets/Jalopy Five - See See Rider/Psychotic Reaction The Houstons/Leroy Jones - Where Did Our Love Go/Steal Away Herbert Hunter/Betty Scott - Twist It Up/My Whole World Is Falling Down Herbert Hunter/John Dunn - Dancin' Party/Ahab The Arab Jalopy Five - Wooly Bully/First Impressions Jalopy 5/Jason Allen & The Gigolos - Day Tripper/She's Just My Style Jalopy 5/The Chords - Honky Tonk Women/Grazing In The Grass Jalopy 5/The Roamers - Can't You See That She's Mine/Little Old Lady (From Pasadena) Jalopy Five/Sandy - Little Latin Lupe Lu/Bang Bang Jalopy Five/The Roamers - I Like It Like That/I Want Candy Leroy Jones/Connie Dee - It's All Right/She's A Fool Leroy Jones/Ed Hardin - Do You Love Me/Only Love Can Break A Heart I Kadez/The Scotties - Louie Louie/Popsicles & Icicles New Society Group/Ed Hardin - Mercy Mercy Mercy/Green Green Grass Of Home Boots Percell Combo/Connie Landers - Rinky Dink/Vacation Clara Wilson/Jimmy & Joe - Easier Said Than Done/Surf City Alpha Zoe/Ed Hardin - Let's Turkey Trot/One Broken Heart For Sale Alpha Zoe/Clara Wilson & The Cleftones - Da Doo Ron Ron/Foolish Little Girl
  4. Yes it's good, about $100 mint, moderate demand.
  5. There is some true reasoning behind the generalised quote "Northern Soul sounds like Motown but with out of tune horns & strings". The golden era of Motown (through to the early 70s) is classy. I love it. Unfortunately, as mentioned above, a lot of it has been thrashed to death, but there's reason behind that too.
  6. I'm sitting on stock of certain soul 45s, but I don't think I'll make anything off them just yet because judging by ebay others also have stock of the same ones...... Hope is higher for a gospel funk 45 that should be making it's way in quantity to me sometime soon.
  7. Solid $700 range LP at the moment (despite or in-spite of the reissue)
  8. I am appalled that people still haven't been refunded while these two are allegedly still out spending up. It's so weird that some people have been refunded but others haven't. Not a good look. Perhaps this thread needs to be deaded so that it all gets brushed under the carpet, forgotten about, taints Soul Source no longer & aids the perpetrators in a successful getaway
  9. Just a thought, I've been involved in swaps on other boards where people basically ruin these by getting a bunch of free CDs without giving any in return ( the waiting.....). What we do now is rotate each year through a designated organizer. That person receives X amount of the same mix CD from each participant in reusable packaging. The participants each have a specified time limit (say 2 weeks or whatever) to get their lot of CDs posted to the organizer plus a return postage payment (through paypal or whatever). Once the cut off arrives the organizer then compiles a package for each participant (basically returns their packaging to them) with one of everyone else's CDs instead of all the same ones that they sent in originally. This way, only the people who can be bothered getting their CDs in on time benefit. The spare CDs that should have gone to the people who didn't front are then usually offered for set sale on the site by the organizer so they can get a bit of a cut for the inconvenience of organizing it that year or for any profit to be distributed evenly back to the participants to cover some postage . Any other monetary/postage fee inequalities are then evened out afterwards etc & everyone is happy with a pile of CDs to listen to until the next mix swap & no "free CD trolls" are entertained.

Yes, two subtley different mixes, Brenda Holloway was a West Coast artist, I forget which way it happened but she either flew out to Detroit to record it & then the masters were also taken back to the West Coast & re-mixed for pressing out there while the Detroit mix was pressed out East. Or she recorded that one in LA & the masters then went to Detroit for a remix. In any case there are two mixes, could have been any number of reasons (overdubs, time constraints, pricing, someone screwed up & sent the wrong tape copy to the plant, who really knows), but from memory they aren't that different. I don't even own either copy anymore either so someone else will have to confirm.
  11. Because anyone can buy a Kent CD & then get the Kenny Carter & Johnny Nash tracks off it pressed up for bootleg release.
  12. That does ring a bell now that you mention it. A reasonably handy pairing on a 45.
  13. yeah, my girlfriend has the Frank Wilson on Stardust.
  14. hmm considering Manship said "so my thoughts are it was a 60s boot.." in the other thread, someone needs to clarify this once & for all. My instinct is that it could go either way, a licensed "other region" pressing or a vintage counterfeit. It doesn't look convincing to me considering the look of other Ric-Tics, but that doesn't really mean much as different pressing plants may have been messing around with different type fonts on a certain day & none of us would ever really know for sure unless we were the actual person in charge of the letraset that day. It's a weird one, but really if it's that upsetting, just go buy a styrene copy & file both
  15. Yes, boots from what I've been told.
  16. The Carvery & Vinyl Factory in the UK do big hole 7"s
  17. I happen to prefer the Timebox version over the 4 Seasons.
  18. EX- = worst grade ever, sets alarm bells off in my head whenever I see it
  19. ahh, i'm also not a fan of the popular "never use anything below VG+ no matter what" method. It's got to the point where I even have to ask for a detailed audio description on 45s graded Excellent now, ridiculous. Wishful thinking seems to have replaced critical assessment with a lot of sellers.

  22. Yes, apparently most of the operation upped roots & moved to Chicago entirely in the early 70s where it mutated into the REW, MTH & MTVH group of operations.

  24. I have a New Zealand press of this on blue & silver Philips, as well as a US issue. I think I told this story on here before, but I had a distro box of unplayed US stock copies that I got sick of taking to record fairs here in New Zealand because no one was interested & they were too common for ebay also. I gave a few away to mates, kept a couple & threw probably 40 odd copies in the bin because I got sick of looking at them. Not a tough one to find on US stock, but that UK press must be a slightly different case. I just wish I'd had a box of the Timebox version.
