  1. Found that other thread Chalky, ta. Should keep me amused. Jim
  2. Being a Crewe (Shavington) lad, (latterley Northampton and then Kent) I 've always wondered about 'UTJ'S' origins, as I was only about 3 when it was going . All the other clubs get the limelight but I've always been curious about this little place on South St. No one really has ever really mentioned it in detail, Who ran it? What was played? How long did it last? (About 12 months?) etc etc. Would be nice to think my home town had some soul oomph Thanx Jim
  3. Bloody hell, thats not a bad price considering I never see it . A great sound from yesteryear, a shame the 'northern' scene can't get back to playing underplayed oldies when appropriate, I swear that at a local do the handbag crowd would rather listen to 'lucky number' than this, the northern scene used to command respect, anyway... Better get out and have a look Ta Jim
  4. Yes, I know it's as old as the hills (no one plays it tho' do they ) but I love it. How much these days? never see it around, saw it once at the 100 in 1987 and never seen it since! Regards Jim.
  5. A spare??? It would be nice to know where they all are now as she's in the middle of a 'room moverround' in anticipation of the new arrival!! Got one on President as well . Otis Clay a go go The wife? Wheres my records?? Jim
  6. Crumbs, thats alot of money for a single that (may or not) be kosher, still, we've all had a bit of that action in the past. My copy came from the 'land of the rising sun' for about 20 quid! I must have had a lucky day, I don't get many . I know we've all said it before but theres no adequate rhyme or reason why these things have not sold in the States on initial release, it's a masterpiece. Anyway Jim
  7. SAW THE ONE ON EBAY AND I THOUGHT IT HAD A BIT OF A 'OUT OF THE PAST' LOOK ABOUT IF YOU CATCH MY DRIFT . WHAT A GREAT ALBUM THO' EH? HOW MUCH DID THE SINGLE GO FOR ? JIM

Fantastic 4 'Pin Point it down' for the princely sum of £2 in 1988. Mind you it's still around for that. I'll get me coat Jim
  9. 'Only way is up' is on Echo records, which I just realised I also chawed off of Roger at an alldayer in down town Southampton ''back in the day ''. Must be some sort of subliminal Elliott/ Banks /Clay vibe afoot. Also the flip of the rather wonderful (and dreadfully overpriced) Delegates of Soul is a bit choice 'What a lucky guy I am', that gets the spins at home now. Jim
  10. Should do it more. I was after, for yonks, a copy of 'Special kind of love' by Otis Clay on Glades, not really scarce but rather tremendous, however most of the copies I did find had seen better days so I left 'em. Anyway Mr Banks eventually supplied me with one for a few sheckles a good few years ago and lo and behold on an 'Otis Clay showcase night' in the record room it appears on the flip of 'The only way is up' which I had for 20 years. Doh. Those old patches were right 'Check the flip side' Jim
  11. Great record Chris. Have you heard the George Jackson versh on the Grapevine cd, may have the edge . Ovations regularly on that well known auction site( was going to give it a spin in June .) Regards to family Jim
  12. Tremendous stuff, ta.. Should have gone to specsavers Jim
  13. Checked that one but couldnt see it , will have another look. Cheers Jim.
  14. Being a bit of a fan I thought I had this, but alas!! Anyone know which album it's on? I've had 'em all out but to no avail.I won't be able to sleep now. Cheers Jim
  15. Lee got 5 copies of YCMI. ( Well, thats the laugh we always have about it anyway, eh mate?) Chemicals??
  16. I seem to remember Gilly and Geoff playing 'Rose Valentine' at the 90 or 91 Yarmouth TAC weekender on the site radio and it was still under wraps then. Good weekender that. Jim
  17. No, it's always around in one form or another, to quote a well worn (rather fine) apt phrase 'it's a passion not a fashion'..........''They call me.. Mr Schemer'' Regards Jim
  18. The Impressions 'My deceiving heart'. Nothing else comes close. Jim

Credit crunch my arse. Dear oh dear.
  20. A record that really defies any adequate description. Desert island spin for sure, always a tad puzzled that people could DISLIKE it . Anywhoo. I'll never forget that night at the 100 with Clarky spinning to the left of the stage as we walked in, playing Art and Honey if my memory serves me. What great memories. RIP Ray and come back Ian!!! Best Jim
  21. Quite simply what the rare soul scene is (was) all about. Shame we can't get back to this, tremendous niter sadly missed. I remember the night the Jocks came down to the 100 for an England vs Scotland niter, they ripped the roof of the place, the first time I heard 'I'm gonna live up to what she thinks', bloody great days. Great vinyl bargains from Roger B at Shotts also. Jim
  22. Sam Fletcher......................please stop playing this utter pap.

I was 13 when I heard 'My heart is calling' and it blew me away. It still gets played every record room sesh at least twice. As for the fairer, well it's got to be Gladys hasnt it for sheer breadth? Best Jim
  24. Too few people, Too many promoters, Too many of above who don't listen, Too few punters who want to expand, Too many people who still think they are at youthie, Too many complacent chin strokers who will say 'I was there' when they werent, Too few people who realise oldies were newies once. I know where I'm going. Do you? My two penneth. Jim
  25. Alex Brown on Sundi demo and Cool Sounds demo in Brisbane junk shop, mint and 25cents each . lightning strikes once. Jim
