  1. How about somebody creating ' compare the Northern Soul original record price.com? Auctions can make folks bid extreme prices, especially when you just got to have it! Best one I saw was a Ricky Hatton fan who bid over £1000 for a pair of boxing gloves that should have been worn, but weren't worn against Mayweather. He sobered up quickly when it comes to paying for them a hour later... Ed
  2. Fing abart eeeebay is......if sold at auction, it reflects demand. You can't put a value on such a great record based on 1979 prices... We've all paid a quid for it, but anybody hearing this first time would pay a ton for it no probs. Ed
  3. Maybe a guy giving it to the potential father in law for a present... Ed
  4. Could do with this guy making a comeback.... Ed
  5. Sunset over La Gomera Ed
  6. Was Sam Cooke played as a new release in the UK clubs of the time? Was it just an album track? I read Sam wrote it in England whilst on tour? This looks interesting: Ed
  7. You learn something new on here everyday! Surely there must have been some collaboration to allow Arthur to release his 'adaption'? Ed
  8. Which came first? First time I've ever heard Sam's effort! Ed
  9. Only just heard this : https://www.6ts.info/music/Aaron-Neville.mp3 Not sure if it's another recent tailor made or not loved the original.. Even without the words! Ed
  10. I was going to say.......never heard this before. Now I know why! If the illusionary illusions are a hit, the floodgates will open to every decent instrumental that's had a half decent vocal ( or several) made around the same time, being sampled and recreated. Not sure the purists will buy into this new trend any more than any other tailor made effort past or present. A bit like karaoke really with great singers! Purists and anything goes cannot be put in the same sentence...apart from this one:) Ed
  11. What's the story with the ' illusions' ? Ed

What is the original label and colour? Infectious tune! This is hilarious: Ed
  13. Nowt like a bit of snake to me a good party.. https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.thesun.co.uk/fabulous/7127242/viewers-bride-ungrateful-moaning-sixties-theme-dont-tell-the-bride/amp/ Ed
  14. Here you go Ed
  15. Nice tributes accounts and recollections.. Once again another artist who probably made little money from his gift of singing, but at least he knew the adulation bestowed upon him by soul fans around the world. In their later lives, when they get traced and coerced into coming to perform a Northern Soul night, you can see the look of disbelief that they have from the crowds applause and enthusiasm. Obviously Don experienced this. Fame if not fortune at last. RIP. Ed
  16. There's not much in life that's free, but the tube for the time being is free as long as you have access to it, for sure it's fantastic and has been for a long time. Im not sure what intelligence it uses to pick things for you to watch or listen to when you have used it once or twice, but a moment ago, these two tracks were on the opening page. Although I saw Shaz at cleggy, I don't own the track. Sandy is recently new to me, but obviously probably not to others. No idea why they are on my first page. There is obviously a reason though! In conclusion, I rate the tube very highly to pass an hour on and learn something new!
  17. So sad. RIP Thanks for the memories. Your music will live on for a long long time. Ed
  18. Not so fast pop pickers Ed:)
  19. Great! New releases would be at the forefront I guess. Ed
  20. Were records that were slipping into the Northern .....soul scene like drizzabone, being played at the same time in the Southern.... Soul scene? (Not specifically in a Northern Soul night down south). Ed
  21. Obviously Northern Soul by definition segregated musical soul tastes North and South. I witnessed the evolution that brought a change from 100 mph stompers to the more mid tempo and certainly modern tunes, but was there ever a time where you could go into a down south soul night and feel it could have been in an up north soul night? New releases were shared equally? I'm guessing around 1980 was closest, but others who actually went north and south would know better. Ed
  22. Indeed I did, and many more times over! It was essential to get that latest sound. The recklessness of youth indeed. All part of the game though. Ed
  23. We can all quote... There are always interesting back stories to these 45s ….. Billy Smith changed his surname to Arnell for the 45 release as he thought it sounded more showbiz ! … he was actually only 14 at the time but as the band were gigging in bars he had to pretend he was much older Picture on right of an older billy. As per my original point. He made FA out of it, but others did, and somebody and some venue claim the glory of discovering it and / playing it. Just saying....... Ed
