  1. Free pies and beer? That usually works, at least in Yorkshire. Good luck with the recruitment.. Ed
  2. I only went twice. Another planet compared to cleggy... Mohair jumpers and skin tight keks were in fashion at the time. Winkle picker hoofs. But let's face it, it's reputation was all about progression, right direction or not. The fashion was part of it....but the music was the real difference. Unrecognisable in comparison to anywhere else once the discoesque sound took over. New York Port Authority and Cleveland Eaton certainly made an impact on me. Individual dancing changed into a kind a group thing. On reflection happy days...get yourself together Yeah! Ed
  3. 65 release? 5 years later on pama, as a demo? Why? Ed
  4. Ernest puts in the work on the vocals and it's fantastic. The other version is second rate. Ed
  5. Sunset at Siesta Ed
  6. Just you tubing tonight and dropped on this Jackie Wilson track/version. I'm amazed I've not heard it before, and I've been a fan for yonks........whats your recent personal shock discovery? Ed

Was this the same artist as let's make love and chills and fever Ronnie Love? Sad news in any case. Ed
  8. And no doubt us the licence fee payers, top up these companies coffers by paying them to appear on the programme. Unless they don't get paid of course, and do it for the publicity... Ed
  9. Speeded up? Or 'as is'? Has it always been mainly couples dancing as opposed to singles? Is there a separate Northern scene in Belgium or is it all merged with popcorn. Maybe Hercule Poirot can find out:)
  10. Fascinating.. I can't remember the record but my mate Dean played it at a higher speed, and said it was played at the Cleethorpes Pier that way. I thought Belgium was only good for Duvel Beer..now I'm impressed by the dance scene from 69 onwards. Ed
  11. I will politely decline to enter a list as I have never attended any events in the Benelux outside a brief visit to the bikini bar in Rotterdam about 15 years ago, and I also don't know what defines popcorn music. Is it another twist on up front? Good luck with the survey. Ed
  12. Loved this track, and several others off the wine rack lp. Deserves a re launch.. Ed

Considering there could now be 1000 rare and expensive singles, in the £1000 up bracket... You'd need to be a millionaire to get near a decent collection, and a multi millionaire to get the other 4000 or so 'cheapest' at under a grand. That's why I got the for millionaires on cd's that come out a few years ago, and am best mates with you tube.. Unless and or until the big lottery win comes up! Ed
  15. Not sure if the flip was ever played...............but I've heard worse. Ed
  16. The snake was played at Wigan v the mighty millers today..... Not sure if it was a write in request:) Ed
  17. Where any records remotely like the Crow being played on the newly named northern soul scene in 1970? Was it more like 73 74 that the Levine influences really kicked in? Although the first record played at Cleethorpes Pier was Your ready now FV....it is remembered more for cutting edge or ' up front ' releases like the Crow. Did the original release on inner ear have any us success? For sure when anybody hears this for the first time, it tests the boundaries of what Northern Soul is. Such a great dancer, which after all still is the most important ingredient of a Northern Soul record. Ed
  18. You have my permission to download this big Wigan tune and play it whenever asked again. As a dj you always need a comeback:) Best eaten at the foot of the stairs.. Ed
  19. Something easy to get into and dance to? Go Atlantic oldies: Ed

Interesting points. Live and let live is obviously a nice concept, but not entirely being adopted on this thread. Some folks go with whatever the flow is, don't take anything too serious, easy going, blend in, and then there's those that don't. Just human nature and not specific to only this scene. For the avoidance of doubt, if promoters are specific about music policy, most issues would not be issues. The evolution of 'multi rooms' with clear music policy has to be a good thing. One size fits all just does not cut it anymore, that's if it ever did. Ed
  21. Having just turned 15 and at about my 6th Cleethorpes Winter Gardens All Nighter I plucked up the courage to request Long after tonight is all over - Jimmy Radcliffe about 3am in the morning...........The DJ just looked at me and said 'why not'. Lots of dancers were looking around thinking why is this being played right now!! Haunted me ever since........I was in the 'moment' for sure. Ed

My wife tells me she can do two things at once. Primarily listen to a conversation and be part of a different conversation. Pete, or Petra? you need to get hormone replacement therapy to help you multi task. Don't go anywhere until your affliction is cured... Ed

I know what you mean. I went to a seaside event a couple of years back with my arms twisted up my back etc to see some folks from my old school days who miraculously converted from punk rockers back then to badge wearing soulies right now. Soon off the floor when just loving you gets replaced by loving rules.... However, it's not for me to judge, as they say a convert is worth 10 pressmen! The promoters also make a shed load of money from them as opposed to me, so they need to feed their habits, not mine. The year after we just stayed in the surrounding pubs who were cherry picking punters, but played proper vinyl and rarer sounds. Win win all round I guess. Ed
