  1. What Tim (colouredman) said. Brilliant summary. It's far from dead or dying - and in saying that, I include the whole nostalgia, oldies thing right across to the more underground, so-called progressive scene encompassing clubs like Empty Bottles, Spirit, Soul Funktion, Black Bee, GoGo Children, 100 Club not to mention those clubs which have gone down the 'gentler' end of things, like Seriously Soulful and Soul Kitchen. It's just different nowadays and it's global. If you want to think in terms of 'a scene', particularly one revolving around vintage 60s and 70s soul (and funk), then maybe it's time to stop thinking 'Northern Soul scene' and instead think Rare Soul & Funk scene? Then again, what the feck does it matter what it's called or what it looks like? What's a 'scene' anyway? There's enough choice out there now. Plus, if you really don't want to venture out of your front door, you don't actually need to - the internet brings it all right to you, digitally. Kim, there's plenty of chances to say 'fings ain't like they was' and take the 'glass half-empty' viewpoint (and, let's face it, Northern Soul's always been packed full of them). I actually genuinely believe that there's so much choice out there nowadays that I feel I'm looking into a very full glass indeed.
  2. I could be wrong Paul, but I think Washpan came first (is certainly the harder) and is I think meant to be a better press - sharper? Having said all that, probably find I'm way off the mark!
  3. Ah ha!! Yes. Not having had either 45 for many, many years, my memory was muddling them them up into one. Thanks Ivor!
  4. You'd think after "covering Northern Soul for 50 years" he might have (a) got it by now (b) got bored with hearing the same old tunes over and over and tried somewhere a bit different? All a bit irrelevant and hopelessly out of touch.
  5. I think the flip "I'm In Your Hands" is also included in that documentary when Wigan-bricks Wayne is dancing, as I recall.
  6. And, please, not the Peanut bloody Duck!!!
  7. Mostly Butch spins for me plus one courtesy of Dave Thorley which is a monster: (1) Jean Carter - I Wanna Know (unissued Decca acetate - I think?) (2) 'Just Brothers' - Go On And Laugh (now known to be the Sharpees and soon to come out via Mark Bicknell and Secret Stash) (3) Jesse James - Love Is Alright (unissued Harthon acetate) (4) The Sherries - World Of Happiness (another Harthon job I believe). Butch's stripped down unissued version rather than the Ann Robinson version with all the strings and stuff (5) Neil - Hideaway (big for DT for some time now - just f#*king brilliant and raw)
  8. Mary Love "Lay This Burden Down" on Modern.
  9. At least the seller listed it as "lookalike". But another example of the naïve comments made back on the thread about these that they were only given to friends for personal use and not to be sold on. Yeah, right.
  10. I never buy blind anymore I'm afraid. No need to these days.

  15. Markw replied to a post in a topic in Record Sales
Hi Can you leave your sale prices up please, in accordance with the site guidelines: "6. Members asked to refrain from removing any details from the ads after selling [or obtaining a want]. You can edit to show "SOLD" but better to leave the ad intact please, as the information therein contributes to a database other members can refer to when looking up current prices, availability etc" Thanks.
  16. Be interested to know what Bobby & Betty and Gary Sole went for. Problem with these auctions is they disappear once they are over so you cannot check how they ended.
  17. Markw replied to Kev Cane's topic in Record Wants
Afraid I haven't got that one to offer you either Kev.
