  1. Ah that is of course Classic and Vintage Pete ! c u both in the playground....
  2. I had to think very hard ,but the Abtone and Grajon release came from a guy who had a lock up just off Fairmount avenue (Philladelphia) ,from memeory it was a industrialised area with lots of lorries, containers and storage units. It was really lucky infact how i stumbled on the place ,i'd been to a place called Blue Chip (me and roger banks had been there a year or so earlier) and got quantity on stuff like passionettes - path etc.. so i'd called back there and managed to get lost on my way to stay with john moore- a guy was unloading by hand boxes of 45's so i pulled up and ended up there for 3 days. The two 45's in question i found within a few minutes of each other...
  3. Bob, i've been away.but will sort a scan of the abtone release.it is same as the grajon from checking the other day-the label is a burgandy colour.bare with me i'll sort for you.
  4. I pulled both 45's out ,the Abtone release has a Broadway addy, but shares the same release number and times etc.. I'll play check the two later but i'm pretty sure they're the self and same 45.Other than not i'm in the dark as to any info about the set up and why it got 2 releases, both sides are pretty good - infact sound a lot better than what they did 15 years when i found em..infact strangely enough i found em both in same place same day !
  5. Yes thanks Dave certainly looking forward to those mate !
  6. Yes i've had some interesting times in the mid-west ,a real specialist hunting ground which to sift through correctly requires good regional knowledge.. seems to have musical styles of it's very own.By all means get in touch with myself or Nicola and we'll be more than happy to include any stories you have ! Just a general update note, The amount and quality of stories has been and continues to be way beyond our expectations - so i'm gonna leave deadline date open for now ,it would certainly be a injustice to the book to miss out on some of the latest contributers ! The book will definately be out by november -definately so still time to get stuff in to us - will update with a final cut off , got some great photo's ,store cards ,old lists and even some well known artists throwing a story or two in the mix.thanks in advance.
  7. The dance floor is i guess a sterling litmus test, when sam played it at the stables it filled the floor more than any other 45 played that nite - four dynamics, eddie parker etc.. you name it co co out did it !of course it ain't the greatest soul record but since when has the northern scene been a soul scene ? it would have been finnished years ago if it depended on real soul music ... imo ... personally i'm just grateful that new things are still filtering through whether they hit the spot for me or not, take the feel good dance vibe away and we'll all be "shootin' thru " classic mr fortnum ! SEE YOU ALL AT THE WILTON !
  8. i got a red stocker at the same time exactly as the red larry clinton , the red philtown is by far the rarest...
  9. Agree 100% mace,i got mine off Ashibende (who discovered it) at stafford time and i've never found it since, another example of one time one find like billy hambric's etc.. it's a fabulous feel good dance track....
  10. I'd have to think back ,when i worked at browny's sure martin kopell found around 6 copies or so of it and there was 3 different mixes / matrix's ,a couple made the list - but i remember buying 2or 3 of them and selling a couple of them on ,something tells me the ending and times were different -also all the copy's vinyl wear ...come to think of it i've never had a minter of it. I'll try find some notes that i made at the time.
  11. Must agree with ya there dave ,one of the first records of that genre that i bought !
  12. I'd sooner work with someone rather than them miss out on something they really want, after all we are all on the whole morally correct folk - wanting the same thing - all of them ! some 45's are of course well into 3 figures and more so nowadays 4 figures ,it is a lot of money in one go if you're buying on a regular basis .To be honest all records sell eventually ,there's never been as many people interested in and buying records ! Yourself and dave are certainly as stand up as anyone on the collecting scene..
  13. Kev ,likewise can't wait for those stories ,the chips and ellusions tales we spoke about on the fone were certainly educational and custom made for the venture... thanks mate.
  14. Re Dave McCadden's stories, i'll look back and find the manifesto's and if ok will get in touch with the guys there for permission, we'll be more than happy to include in the book.
  15. Hi dave, well done, photo's would be great if relevant to the stories ... look forward to reading em ! Re the deadline we're looking towards the end of december (this year) so don't bother with the christmas shopping this year...
  16. I appreciate all the emails and offers of help etc.. it's certainly got me in motivation mode, can't give a exact date for finnish - that's down to lots of different scenario's but we gonna be moving quick as possible.Above is a great list of names although i got at least double that amount again including in my view some of the all time great finders ,will save their identity for the release time..there is of course the odd few guys who i really want in there that just won't budge for whatever reasons, mainly on the u.s side ,this record game has some of the craziest and unpredictable characters on the planet.. but who knows i guarentee some welcome suprises for sure ! Today some crackers arrived from dave thorley,mr bicknell gonna do some and top carolina's guy jason perlmutter and Andy Noble one of the most skilled artist/session and info finders of today - lots and lots to go at !
  17. Nice one Baz,don't forget to mention the massage parlours - it would be incomplete without...
  18. Too right Dave you certainly have earned a place in there mate (i'd actually meant to ask you in a previous mail) but you know how long i take ... look forward to it..
  19. Record Digging Stories.. Book.. View full article
  20. Been working steadily - well very steadily on the book i mentioned some years ago on here on the fascinating and colourful record hunting addiction.Time is always a problem factor but certainly making headway now, largely due to the fact that the lovely Nicola Anderson kicked me up the backside and saved the day by getting me and the book organised ! so Nicola is now my partner in getting this project running like a well oiled eerr...machine ! A brief recap to some who may not have seen my initial post ,the book is going to be accounts from the front line by many of the top record finders, collectors,dj's and vinyl addicts (Nicola will post some of the names we got on board shortly )but it ranges from the old days of crawling through dirt, muck and filth ,trawling through hundreds of thousands of 45's to the up to date artist, producer findinding modern day vinyl crate diggers from the states.Primarily the stories were going to be focused on the states but, some interesting uk stories are more than worthy of inclusion. So if anyone out there can tell a story that no one else can ( factual of course) then shout up and let us know - storie(s) can be as long or short as you like ! It is quite a task to remember certain things from 10,20,30 years ago but very rewarding and sometimes sad going back in time to places ,situations and in some cases faded memories of characters no longer with us.To note this project is also really a labour of love ,if it does make any money ,it will all go to a charity(s) all contributers to date have done so for the love of it,although if any expenses are incurred we have no problem covering those. Will keep you all up to speed and leave it with Nicola to list some of the names already on board. thanks.
  21. In actual fact,i've only just got to grips with doin sound clips and it takes me ages as i've done em chalky posts em up in between him working shifts and stuff,so not as you call it bumping -it's my lack of experience with p c 's, if bumping wud have put the list up in 10 parts ! chalky now faces the firing squad or 10 lashes..
  22. Thoroughly enjoyed this reading this kev, very informative. One can only dream of finding a new discovery half as good as this classic... i for one never tire of hearing quality 45's like this and often try and imagine what it was like in the hey day !
  23. For what it's worth,my experience confirms this is a pretty difficult 45 to find-i've given it the odd spin recently too...
