Damaged records?
Are you keeping them in boxes too big for the amount of records if so packing them with paper etc may alleviate the problem , Bought records for 50 years and never had a problem.

OK to play a 'second issue'
Up to the dj in my opinion it is he/she that will take the flack if any comes but the idea of waving the original around for validation is ridiculous to me might as well leave it at home and as said above just play something else.

Most uptempo records always sound better in a venue. I have heard records out which I own and thought wow only to play it the next day and I think it must be a different record , the atmosphere makes the record in some cases.- MELLO SOULS - YAWN!!!!
