  1. I'm 100% sure my copy came from you. Would make sense that you sold one and kept one, especially as the one I bought is rather VG+ than EX so you obviously kept the better one. Must have been around 1999 or 2000, I remember clearing the dancefloor completely when I played it for the first time.
  2. Malc, this are the modern times. Copy & paste a 1,000 times is ok with us ...

The vast majority of 'big spenders' reside in the UK. Most of the top dollar records are oldies sought after in the UK and therefore bought by UK collectors. You're right there are obviously quite a few younger european collectors/dj's with lots of money to spend on records. But their influence on the price development of Northern 45s is rather marginal IMO.
  4. Yep, The Embers
  5. That's a reissue (or boot?) from a few years back.
  6. Yes, white label press does exist, I have one. Actually I think it's more common than the blue (?) issue press. Is the white label one a demo? I think so but there's nothing on either side that might denote that. Just looked up the one that finished on Ebay the other day, it's a proper white demo. My copy probably looks the same, haven't played it for quite some time...
  7. derek you sold a copy 10 years ago! to me!
  8. Sure. Nothing wrong with that. Many Ebay sellers do not refund return postage. Joerg is a close friend of mine so I try not to get involved in any discussion about grading or postage costs. But saying "no return policy" is simply incorrect.
  9. hm,his return policy is that you can return any record you're unhappy for refund of winning bid.
  10. Chalky, I stated a fact not an argument. And argument for what? There wasn't anything to argue about? I just think that having a closer look at Bill Dennis bidding history is interesting. Only two bidders think it's worth more than 3.6K. Seems like both were very desperate to get the record, one a tad more than the other. That's all. Your buyer A/B analogy doesn't fit in what I said.
  11. How about Satin - Your love's got me?
  12. Funny Chuck Cockerham gets mentioned a few times. I think it's a crap tune but different strokes for different folkes as they say
  13. Two versions? I forgot that there are two takes. One's sparse and the other one's much punchier, aren't they? The one I have in mind is the punchier one.
  14. LP is a budget type of thing released on Cascade "20 great unknown soul classics". You can pick it up very cheap And here's an interesting quote lifted from the Soul Strutter blog site: It turns out that 'Sweet Temptation' was also recorded on Charay by Cressa Watson who also recorded as Carolyn Sullivan on Philips
  15. ok, another 3 that are brilliant IMO and could be among the best five differences - 5 minutes lou pride - your love is fading richard caiton - i'd like to get near you
  16. how about bobby reed - time is right for love delegates of soul - i'll come running back

I'm not on FB so can't access the site. Any chance of posting it up here? That's if it doesn't violate any board rules...
  18. Sure, that's how auctions work. But we're looking at the individual bids that were placed. And therefore w/out 2nd highest bidder bill dennis would have closed at around $3.700 instead of $7.800.
  19. am surprised that bill dennis finished almost as high as j.d. bryant. might be rarer but it's a poor tune compared to IWBCK. but as marc alreay pointed out, it would have been less than $4.000 w/out 2nd bidder. chansonettes isn't that far off the mark is it?
  20. also came out in spain and maybe other euro countries
  21. Best packaging I ever saw was japanese site www.reggaecollector.com. heavy duty mailing envelope. inside the envelope a strong card board 7" box that holds up to 10/12 records. inside the box on top of the record lots of styrofoam padding material. record itself in a cardboard sleeve and then put into a plastic bag. plus a shipping time of 3 days from Japan to Germany and postage of about 5 quid makes this the best service ever since I started collecting.
  22. Stop posting such bullshit. I never said these promoters don't want UK soulies at their dances. I said "they fear that if a larger contingent of UK soulies attend they may "take over" the place and the venue turns into a "typical english allnighter" type of thing" So you better "read" my posts before you "post". Thank you.
  23. Marc, nobody said that.
  24. when Ady C issued "good news" on 6Ts anniversary 45 it was revealed that it's the same group wasn' it? edit: it's a Shades article that says they're all the same outfit: See here
  25. I went to the first 4 or 5 weekenders. So it's not "dissing" but simply telling what it was like. What I described earlier was one of the reason why I stopped going. Not the only reason but a major one. In the early days the Munich lot was at least 30/40 soulies. I don't think anyone of them is still going. Wonder why? If it had changed over the last few years good for them but honestly, it doesn't really bother me.
