  1. yep, that's correct. Done back in the 80s or even 70s...
  2. Was about to list a few 45s on Ebay when I noticed that the previously free Auction Player is now called eCommerce Player and actually costs a bob or two. Does anyone know if there is a free alternative to Auction Player? I found it was a very useful tool but I'm only listing a few records every now and then on Ebay it's not worth spending $17 per month for eCommerce Player. TIA Benji
  3. I'm after Justin Jones too, posted it on here but not one reply in weeks and you get the bugger within minutes
  4. I got a IMO very nice instrumental by the Packers called "Hollywood baby" on a french Polydor EP. Does somebody know if this came out on 45 anywhere else? I checked John Manship's site and it isn't listed. I know it's on their "Hole in the wall" LP on Pure Soul. TIA
  5. If that's "That's when you know you're in love" it's an uncredited west coast acetate. Or at least that's what Chris Marriott told me and I wouldn't know why I d should doubt that.

don't want to spoil your sales but Doni Burdick @ 100??? And the Marvels also came out in Germany but it's very very rare...

Did a quick search around to see if I was correct with my valuation. An Elf W/D sold for 50 earlier this year, a UK Pama issue was offered @80 but no sign if it sold or not. A VG+ NOC UK Pama copy was listed @ 10. So I think 30-40 for an Elf copy and 40-50 for a Pama copy should be about right.

I'd say 30+ as demand is growing? No much difference in value between UK Pama and US Elf? BTW, as the UK Pama pressing has a rather prominent bass line, is the US Elf pressing the same or is it "softer"? Used to play it on UK Pama, had to turn down bass every time as people were thinking they're at a Northern Soul Rave
  9. as good as this track is Frank Popp got (and still gets) tarred and feathered for using and re-working samples from old northern classics into new songs. Where's the difference to what Ian Levine did here?
  10. the scan of the Sammy Davis Jr shows the dutch picture sleeve. It also came out in Germany but with a different p/s...
  11. Keb Darge used to play it at -8, even slowed down it sounds great and it's possible to dance to (but you're still in danger of a heart attack )
  12. I don't know for the UK but to Germany you can't send insured from the USA. Only registered. Some think that the customs slip has to be the real value in case the parcel gets lost. That's not correct. If the parcel gets lost you only get the respective "standard" compendation, regardless of what had been stated on the customs slip. Most US dealers/ebay sellers know that but simply ask them to state $30 maximum if in doubt.

the details on the scan shown here are clearly type-writer written, i.e. label was printed but details added later. I assume Bob Crewe took a handfull of the Atco release testpressings and stuck on his own labels, maybe to distribute the song to other artists? "private pressing" means to me, an artist or producer takes his/her own song to a pressing plant and releases it on his/her own label.

Is this a "proper" release, i.e. issue or a testpressing?
  15. forgot to add: IMO worst record that people consider to be a soul record: arthur willis - the hurting is over. 2nd rate Homer Simpson impersonator over a lacklustre amateur-ish backing....
  16. you're soure ????? I think both songs are good examples for proper lyrics that actually tell a story and are way beyond the usual "I love you and you love me" lines many songs feature. especially fortune teller with its twist at the end of the song ("now I'm married to the fortune teller") is one I really like lyric-wise...
  17. I know of a copy tucked away in a collection that is almost certainly for sale. If you don't find a copy now, drop me a line. It may take a couple of days for me to get in touch with the guy who owns it tho...
  18. Steve, got only one question for you: who said (or says) that the beach music scene has to be soul-only? I understand the music played there has a fair share of soul but it isn't and hasn't ever been just soul music, it's all about dancing and having a good time isn't it? I raise my hat for them embracing the music we love but I don't expect them (or anybody else for that matter) to dig as deep as we do in order to unearth unknown soul records. Or did I get you completely wrong and just made a fool out of me?
  19. I got an issue, what would you offer to tempt me to swap it for a demo?
  20. Back in the early/mid 90s I bought 10 copies of Aware of love on the original EEE release. Seller had another 50 or more copies so it can't be that rare. I guess it's hard to find because many copies are tucked away in US beach music collections ...

another way to identify the pressing is by playing it. on the pressing, just a second or two before the recording starts you can hear the crackles and surface noise that was on the original record the pressing was dubbed from.
  22. BUMP! NOW 200 QUID INCLUDING POST WITHIN EUROPE!
  23. Had to seperate this from my other sales thread. This little bunch of 18 discs is for sale as one lot for the unbelievably low price of 200 GBP plus post. Retail value should be at twice as much so have yourself a bargain. Gradings are comprehensive, i.e. include state of vinyl and label. If a disc is below EX it may play with crackle but no sound distortion like scuffing, etc. I'm sure you won't be disappointed. If interested please PM me. Paypal preferred, no fees!
