I notice no one mentioned 90's or even Y2K indie soul, for me there's probably more miliage in street soul or even what was on the fringes of the acid Jazz scene.

same here matey, gave up northern in 89 to go to the Hacienda, Shelly's, Legends, shaboo ect, then just followed the soulful side of the music since then. Returned to the scene around 97ish after the best of it was done.

Its a secret weakness of mine, the earlier the better, jersey stuff on keytronics, movin, 111 east ect, is where its at for me in this genre.

When I first got into the scene it was beat ballads, 15 year since it were crossover, nowadays everyones on the funky northern tip. Wha'st next? Gospel, uptemto 7ts (stuff termed too disco int past) or even a return to soulful house?

A freind told me he had a south American 45 of this, which was the original, from Peru I think.

I suppose thats the real lagacy of this scene and back from the first mod generations, even surpassing the music, its the exclusitity the feeling of being into something different, something thats yours, or more importantly ours.

I've a vinyl copy on Canyon, the book says it should be styrene, but I query this as all the other canyons, chosen few for example are vinyl.

I used discogs a lot about 5 years ago to buy classic house and proto rave stuff, to replace the stuff i'd sold to buy northern, LOL. I could buy the same tunes now for around 1/2 the price of less!

a few more that spring to mind from me; Jimmy Robbins- I cant please you (couldnt believe this was cheap when I first heard it in the 8ts) Fred Hughes- love me baby ( flipside to ooh wee) dirt cheap! Betty Wright- girls can do what the guys.../ sweet lovin daddy ( two great sides for around a tenner)

Now yer talking keith one of the best, if you dont know this, get one, it oozes soul from every pore, an all time favorite of mine.
