  6. I asked a house dj mate of mine why he'd never gone digital, and he said all of our generation, that grew up playing vinyl, dj'd visually, 'its the the third mix on that green one', or its the one with the lion on the cover'. I have so many house tunes I can only remember in that way, ask me the title and I've had it, but I could take your to where it is in the box everytime. Soul and funk wise I'm better but the label always comes first with me, 'its on.....' then the artist and ttile is stuck further away in the vaults of my mind.

  13. when the hac reopended mid 91 my mate got his air horn confiscated at the door, Shay jones was the biggest tune of the night, house got a bow tie that night, we all started wearing proper shirts again!
  14. think the essex boys from the jazz funk scene were at it too down at Caister and the lacey lady in Canvey island
  15. I cant resist the Del larks- job opening, the vocal interchanges and phrasing are superb I never tire of it and yet have heard so many say they got fed up with hearing it at Wigan.
  16. Rave was exactly the same in the early 9ts, We all threw away the airhorns and whistles and got into serious house music.
  17. polk salad anne was a floor filler at Keele too for evo.

You'll not find anyone on here arguing otherwise Rob, Northern soul has certainly done nothing to advance djing's technical aspects but it has had a massive creative contribution to the craft of Djing through its obsession with labels, obscurity, alternate versions, exclusivity, sequencing, I could go on. Its rather well documented in most books on the history of Djing, Bill Brewster's 'last night a dj saved my life' amongst many others.
  19. ok, too small minded might of been a better choice of words. there is certainly plenty of northern soul themed events out there, but I wouldnt really describe them as part of a universal scene anymore.

thanks guys for help on this one, think mine, if I remember correctly has a faint matrix stamp in the run out, not heard this mentioned.
  21. no basically, the scene just isnt big enough, I've commented several times on the lack of progression from rare soul scene/ funky/ upfront into the oldies nights, it all stopped around 15 years ago imho, seems there very little consistancy in the musci played between any venues nowadays.
