  1. I know some of the records like The Adventurers and Gloria Jones were considered Richard's Va Va records .I know there was a practise of sharing the sounds around from Va Va's and The Cat's for instance , via acetates , so could it be possible that these particular records made their way to this early Wigan playlist by this way ? Look forward to playing the tape , well done to Pete for unearthing a piece of history .
  2. Surely JJ recorded this for Groovesville ,before his contract was swallowed up by Motown ? cheers Eddie
  3. Haven't heard the tape yet ,but didn't Richard join the Wigan rosta of DJ's some months after it opened , and not as soon as a month after opening ? If I'm wrong then happy to be corrected , that was my take on it .Cheers ,Eddie
  4. Detroit perfection both sides ......
  5. Looks mouthwatering , hope it gets completed ...
  6. Thanks Richard ,interesting info ,had an original Mikki Farrow for £8 off Soul Bowl about 1979 ,wish I still had it ,still got Tony Hestor however ,which was same price ,cheers Eddie
  7. Sandy Hadley on So - Char ? Had a boot in the 70's and remember it was pretty neat ...
  8. Hasn't the original got facial features on the Karate figure and the bootleg not ? Also the edges of the label on the boot are not as clean as the original , it's easy to tell if you have both to compare ....
  9. A superb tribute Ady to a fine Soul singer ....
  10. Did Mick's end up with DJ Honky, Chalky ? cheers Eddie
  11. Felt really deflated watching Bobby sing the songs off his new album , felt the songs were weak, his vocals strained and the backing did him no justice , and very nearly went to bed .Decided to stay and listen to the older material , and so glad I did ...Part 2 was an inspiration, full femme backing , Altrina Gayson dueting , horn section, the works .....Bobby went through his past catalogue in inspired style ,Daylight ,If you think you're lonely now , Looking for a love ,A change is gonna come , Across 110th St , Woman's gotta have it ,Harry Hippie etc .I know he's been ill , his voice isn't as strong as it was , but Bobby Womack for and hour and a half ,on mainstream TV, after a personal great few days of Soul music was the icing on the cake for me ....
  12. Yes I remember that ,I've still got the list from 76 from Soussan with it on for £5
  13. My first two acetates were Tobi Legend / Dena Barnes , and Drifters " Dues " / Edward Hamilton " Baby " , ordered them from Soul Galore ,Birmingham , about £4 each ? There was a guy in Wigan record bar who sold loads every week , you could smell them as you entered the record bar ...got Little Anthony / Lou Pride off him , about £6 I think ....great at the time , when we were young and these top sounds were out of our reach ...Eddie
  14. Bloody hell , I remember buying Maurice Williams , Gerri Hall [ Hot Line ] , and Soul Communicators - Those lonely nights [Fee Bee ] all mint , and £10 for all three......off JM in the early 80's , wonder where all these copies ended up , must be loads of 'em ......
