So Angry Is This The End Of An Allnighter Career?
I'm sure he will be on here soon enough...I've heard Paul play before and he usually plays 70s/crossover so that would suit me fine for an hour or so!! And he was on early doors wasn't he? Maybe that's the problem when niters cross over with soul nights people don't really expect a warm up when in reality it's a long night ahead!!! How can you bugger off at eleven and say it was a bad night? For some people if it aint 100 mph all night they're not happy! Nobody 's 16 anymore

Posting On Here
Oh my word...Soul Source without bickering? It would be like turning up at the Greatstone and there's no buffet on

Overkill A Problem ?
Yes there are two many nights on..it's madness. Recently in the Stockport area there were 3 oldies nights on the same Friday...all similar styles that would attract the same kind of punter. I live in Stockport and wouldn't go to any of them normally. However...myself and a good friend of mine from SS who I won't name as I don't want to cause unnecessary embarrassment (paypal/cash will be fine... ) went down to the Guild Hall as an alternative to the local pub. Now I'm sure there are plenty of you on here who are familiar with the Guild Hall (whether you will admit it or not) but it is run by Ian Obeng who does the Nite Owl radio show...he's been running nights for years round these parts. I'd been a few times before and I have to admit the venue is just right for a soul nite/niter and the music had improved slightly since my last visit (I didn't hear Dobie Gray once...)but it was still mainstream oldies and I wouldn't make a habit of going as it doesn't float my boat as Mr Bicknell would say. However the place was DEAD! There couldn't have been more than about 50 in and it's a large 2 room venue. Years ago it used to be hammered like Bury or Lowton but it really was empty. Looking around on listings there was so much else on that weekend in the same area I'm not surprised. Not a sign of anything on the rare side but oldies nights all over sharing the punters. What really is the point? All the decent rare type events are so inaccessible for me if I don't want to drive. At one time it was so easy to get to Sheridans for Lifeline, Soul or Nothing in Manchester...now it's winding country roads to the middle of nowhere if I want a decent night out so apart from the Greatstone and Middleton I don't really bother as I don't enjoy staring into a glass of coke all night whilst my husband looks at records. Re what James said I do think it's probably better in London to a certain extent as everywhere is a bit easier to get to and people are generally younger so you can play what you like and not worry about keeping the oldies crowd happy.

Geno Washington On Uk Pye
Mmm..that looks like mine. I will have to double check as I didn't think it was a reissue
-
Geno Washington On Uk Pye
Red picture sleeve with Geno dancing on the cover? Reissue? If so that is what I've got.... I wondered why Richard hadn't flogged it already on Ebay with the rest of my oldies

Another Tony's Blackburn Thread
Sure we've had a similar thread before but just been watching the refosoul video clips of Tony's in the mid eighties. You can just catch me walking up the stairs at the beginning behind my old friend Julie! I was a lot thinner then Wasn't everybody better looking and better at dancing for sure!! Although there was an abundance of curly perms Was probably only a few years after Wigan so we were all still young (I was only 17 or so).... Can anybody else spot themselves on the video/s? I can spot a few younger looking familiar faces in the queue!

Your Favourite Modern Soul Choons ?
Just listening to Eddie Pillar with Johnny T on the radio clips.....listened to it before but what a great selection of modern stuff from the Valatone playlists....includes Collins and Collins, marcia Hines, 4th day, Brown Sugar etc.....I know that brown Sugar got hammered a few years ago but it's still one of my all time favourites

Spinning Album Tracks
My laptop is going mad....keep editing this! As I said before...ignore the soundfile, re album tracks I love Clydene Jackson and I believe many prominent djs play this off the reissue 45? Maybe it's okay as it's not too pricy for the album anyway...and as long as you own the LP!!! Manny_Corchado___Pow_Wow.mp3

When Was Your Last Nighter
Last niter for me was Middleton a few months ago. I have to know that I've got somebody to look after the babies for a full day afterwards or I just can't enjoy myself. Although I'm not that crazy about all niters if I'm honest, I do enjoy them occasionally....I like a bit of choice though, can't stand too much out of tune up tempo sixties so I prefer Lifeline or Middleton. Used to really enjoy the lifeline all niters at Sheridans but don't get to them these days as they're too annoying to get to...tend to avoid anything in the east mids/notts area as have had bad experiences getting to events in those parts on more than one occasion!! Mention the A1 and I go slightly off colour Middleton is perfect as it's nearby so no ghastly drive home I once had a memorable trip home from the 100 club with a driver who could be best described as breathing....I hadn't got the cash to get home any other way...I only just lived to tell the tale

Northern Soul What Does It Cost You?
I think there's plenty of those around on the UK Soul Scene I'm afraid!!
-
Northern Soul What Does It Cost You?
Wow how clever are you? As the least talented person ever to pick up a paintbrush I really don't understand how you do it! I'm dead unartistic but good with gadgets....not very girly I know
-
Northern Soul What Does It Cost You?
Same for him indoors...he spends a lot on records (and not just soul...) but he neither drinks excessively, gambles, or buys designer clothes ....and I much prefer him that way!! Me..I drink like a fish, shop til I drop and think nothing about buying oldies off manships auctions at any price....only kidding!!! My last buy was Baby Washington for a fiver off Gemm...and worth every penny!!

An All Time Low?
Re the cafe...I don't think it's trying to exploit the scene...it's just a cafe in Wigan that has a theme! Nobody gives a rat's ass really...My mum lives in Wigan and I'm sure I'd pop in if parched!! Shane I will have to have a word on Sunday as, if you had ever visited Wigan town centre you would realise that nobody gives a poo about the Casino any more unless they REALLY went Everybody you talk to in the Wigan area went to the Casino(including my brother who was a punk later on) an the cafe will just be another cafe! Lets just hope the pies are up to scratch

Just Into It ?
My little girl likes soul to a certain extent...she has her favourites like Brown Sugar and the more up tempo 70s tracks but I would never force it on her...I like to encourage her to have individual musical taste and be able to discover all kinds of music and she does have quite broad taste to some extent. Unfortunately, she does like quite a lot of very crap pop....the latest craze is the devil that is HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL.....if anybody reading this has a daughter of a similar age they will understand I took her to the Neighbourhood All dayer one year..we went for a couple of hours in between the pleasure beach and harry ramsdens! She had a bit of a dance and laughed her socks off at a young lad about 12 in a vest and flares!!! "Not a good look"...said Georgia!!

Soul What Is Your Prefered Genre
have read through this thread and started to reply a few times stating my preferred genre of soul music...however when I really think about it I can't choose! My favourite artists span different eras-eg Il love music recorded in the 60s and 70s by Darrow Fletcher, Maxine Brown, Curtis Mayfield and Bobby Womack. I love uptempo soul...a bit of latin, boogaloo soul,RnB , Disco and stompin northern but also enjoy deep soul, crossover and modern soul. If I had to say....I think I would go for DISCO!!!!
